Pls help me choose a Desktop: Bags + Oil/Wax. Extreme Q, HerbalAire, Vapir Rise, or ... ?

Hi everyone,

I've been using portables for a couple of years now (Arizer Air – happy with it, and MFLB – not at all happy). Now I'd like to switch over to plug-ins. One of the reasons why I need a desktop is my tolerance: I don't get medicated enough when using my Arizer Air, I heard more than once that desktops are much more efficient (never tried them, though).

Here is what I'm looking for in a desktop vape:
  • Abe to use flowers, as well as oils, wax, budder, concentrates, shatter, etc.
  • Able to use bags (balloons)
  • Performance (less waste => getting higher)
  • Budget ~$300 or slightly more
What would be your recommendation? The Volcano, Herbalizer and the like are beyond my budget. I've been thinking about three models: Arizer Extreme Q, HerbalAire, Vapir Rise 2.0? Or something else?

Thank you :)

What about the EVO? It has the ability to use a glass nail. It also has a few made to use glass pieces to use with the unit. You cant use "bags" with the EVO. The balloon takes away from the taste of your cannabis IMO. Also the resin sticks to the inside of the balloon. I thought what a waste.

Here's the link through the company.

Due to high demand please allow 5-7 business days for processing before your order ships. Thank you for your patience! Build Your Own Starter Kit $319.99. No reviews · Standard Starter Kit $349.99. 1 review.

I also like a log vape. Think about the Malaana portable further down the road, it is unregulated. It works like a desk top far as how powerful it is or the Zion it's her larger brother.

Almost there...
I would recommend the HerbalAire from your selection!
Super efficient, tastes amazing, bags are super thick and very low maintenance!
And made in Canada, so servicing is easy.

Here is an awesome review of it:

http://fuckcombustion.com/resources/herbalaire-h2-2-review-with-high-output-kit.6/

I have the original and the Elite models and both still get used on occasion.
My original model was donated to a friend 3 years ago and is still working like new!

If you can swing an EVO, go for it!

I gave my +10 y.o. Herbalaire v2.2 to my brother (still tickin'!), replaced mine with an Elite with the high output pump.

I like the versatility of both, and they do work great, very efficient.
I have used mine in a number of ways: with whip, with bags, with bud, with concentrate and even with a HydroTube or Beaker-bong. No complaints (although I DO recommend the high output pump, which I hope they've integrated with the onboard timer, like the weaker pump), I discovered there is a hard limit around 400-410 F, and unlike my 'backup vape' (a TC mod-box with Divine Tribe ceramic donut) it can't go higher (which would only be required if you want to play around with things like THCv which requires 430F).

That said, now I'm wondering what the Evo would be like :)

I'm not sure... Should I even try try those bags? Cooler vapour seems to be a cool idea.

I never thought about that one, I thought it's more expensive. That's another model to consider, thank you.

Do you think the max temperature can be too low for oils, concentrates, wax, shatter, etc.?

No, it has never had a problem vaping concentrates. In fact their concentrate crucibles are pretty sweet, filled with tiny glass beads to significantly increase surface area.

The thing about bags... you have to use them RIGHT away, the long the vapor is in the bag, the more it cools and it will deposit on the inner side of the bag. You CAN rinse the bag in ISO or Everclear to reclaim whatever is on the inside of the bag, but that's more work. The bags still work great, especially if you have a high tolerance and need to take more hits than your everyday Yogi :) And of course for sharing with friends, it keeps things flowing (you can be filling a second bag while the 1st one goes around).

I know a lot of folks who use to blaze spliff and bowl exclusively, they didn't seem to be as prone to feeling the vape was 'harsh' but after years of use I can't imagine going back... the ability to hang glassware is important and the Herbalaire works nicely there, I have my brother set up with a HydroTube on the top of his Herbie 2.2 and I've got a 18" PowerHitter beaker that I use with the Herbalaire Elite inverted and the TonG (teflon on glass) adapter shoved into the 18mm joint of the beaker. Works great.

The one last thing I can say about the Herbalaire units is that they are built like a tank... you can literally throw them across the room (they use that in their youtube vids).

Hi, it is not really clear if you are sure that you want Bags. For me personally, i don t really enjoy bags, so i don t use my Volcano very often.

If you already tried Bags and that is your cup of Tea, i would VERY strongly suggest to save some money till you can afford a Volcano - build quality, reliability and so on are hard to beat.
It really is a nice and very well made Machine - i have great respect even if i don t like it for myself.

No, no more smoking! Vaping and edibles, that's what I do.

Hi, it is not really clear if you are sure that you want Bags.
I do. I want to try them.

It looks like I have to choose between HerbalAire and Vapir Rise 2.0: both work with bags and concentrates. Is there another model that has both those features?

Anther vote for saving a bit more and getting a Volcano if a bag vape is what you are looking for.

Almost there...
I would not vote for the Volcano, had one and sold it due to dry vapor and only able to use bags.
With my HerbalAire i do not face this problem anymore, the bags are delicious and i enjoy them more with the HA.

HA is cheaper than the Volcano and is much more versatile!
Bags, whip, direct to bong and multiple bags are all possible.

At least with the HA, if you find you don't like bags, you can still use it in a number of ways.
With the Volcano, you can only use bags. Sure you can use the bags through a WT, so i guess dual use.

My vote still goes for the HA!

If your budget is 300$ I suggest you use the 20% coupon code " TREAT " to get a Cloud Evo for about 250USD$

I have a volcano and I prefer the cloud evo by a large margin, if you're a clutz though, go with the volcano. The evo is great for 1-4 people, well really you can use it for huge groups if you like but if you regularly smoke alone the Evo is the king if you regularly smoke with 3+ then I'd get a volcano.

THE CODE NO LONGER WORKS FOR 20% off so try " stayup " or " sticksnstones "
for 10% if you still want to go with the evo.

-----

I say go with the volcano for a bag only vape since it's much quicker to fill a bag and feels more elegant because of that. Never do I use bags through water, it's a very weak flavour and the vapour is already cooled a bit because you waited the 30 seconds for the bag to fill.
|

the herbalaire is great too I hear! YOU DON'T EVEN GRIND YOUR CANNABIS. It takes longer to fill a bag but still

ALSO Check out the Zephyr Ion, you may like it it's a lot like the Digital Volcano, it has a digital temp reader and it's for bags or whip but mostly designed for bag.

I m all with you and like i said, i don t like Bags too much... the HA is much more versatile. I just wanted to express that in my Opinion, if you are sure that you want to use just Bags, then the Volcano is the shit (again, just in my Opinion)
Bags through Water - meh.

I'm NOT going to use bags only, I'm going to use the whip also. And I'm going to experiment with oils, shatter, etc. That's why I'm looking for a jack of all trades :-|

If you guys were to choose a vape that would work with bags AND if you use concentrates as well, what would you choose? A multi-function vaporizer that works with herbs and concentrates? or would you rather buy a separate device for oils and shatter and use two vaporizers, one for herbs and one for oils?

Jack of all trades is the HerbalAire then in your price range.
HA is excellent with flowers, i have never used the oil crucible so cannot comment there.
For what you are requesting, this would be your best choice.

If you want one of the best oil/flower vapes go for the EVO but no bags.
This vape effectively vapes oil due to heater and oil location.

Also try and remember that concentrates work best at hotter temps than our vapes get to.
You dab at 710+ and vape at 400ish...
I stay away from concentrates because while great flavor at low temp i feel i waste a lot of material.
If i try a small dab on an e nail, i am hammered and i can see all the material is used.

What you ask for is a lot in one vape.
Most of us have dedicated flower and concentrate vapes.
If you take bags out of the equation, your world would open up a lot more!

Like this for example:
http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/newvape-flowerpot-twax-vaporizer.23162/

Perfect for concentrates and flowers!

Do you think it's better than the Vapir Rise?

Also, if I decide to buy a dedicated concentrate vape I guess I need a stationary device, not a vape pen — what would be the minimum price tag for a concentrate vape with a decent quality? Any recommendations as to specific models?

Thank you :leaf:

HighwayMan, for what you're describing the Herbalaire works great.
It's very versatile and incredibly well built.

That said... I don't want to throw you into the deep end of specialized concentrate vapes, but I ended up building a 'backup vape' that uses the Joyetech eVic vTwin Mini (TC <temperature control> mod box) along with a Divine Tribe v3.0 RDA (rebuildable ceramic donut assembly), which kind of bridges the area in between desktop vapes and e-nails in a portable package that is incredibly powerful. Now I have not personally had the opportunity to try the various e-nails that are out there, but I understand the concept. That said, the learning curve is not trivial, you have to be ready to dive in deep to learn and then apply what you learn @ home.

The palm vape unit I have is dedicated to concentrates, and can use pretty much any form.

I have one that uses the single-session DT v3 donut (which is about 3-4 tokes), is incredibly easy to clean and I normally operate around 430F (it can go up to 600F).

I have another that is a rebuildable tank which will hold around 2ml's (there are others that hold way more, but this one is the most leak resistant, this was custom made with 2 of DT's smallest 7mm ceramic donuts and works like a champ).

It looks like I'm the only one recommending the Arizer EQ. It's inexpensive and mine is simple and works great. Ddave on the board had some mods for it that make a huge difference. You could buy one and still save up for one of the more expensive vapes if you find you don't like it. An inexpensive way to try out balloons. Arizer has a new balloon system that I like and that makes it easy to use.

Checked the Vapir Rise thread and it is dead.. That tells me a lot about a vape.
One negative is that the fan seems to be always on? Not sure if this was corrected on newer versions.

EQ also works well but needs to mods to be efficient.

My choice wold still be the HA.

As for concentrate vapes, all depends on your budget!
Chinese ones seem like a good place to start as they are quite cheap and this will allow you to decide if a more expensive setup is really required.
Something like this would be a good test bed:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Ena...-Male-Joint-Smart-Controller/32758405852.html

Most here are rebranded Chinese models with super inflated prices.
Some decent ones around but they are quite expensive.
Check out the Errlectric thread:

http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/errlectric-concentration-station.16288/

It also has a herb nail, so dual use again.

If possibly looking at a box mod and DT type atomizer for concentrates, may I suggest this as the deal of the year. I personally don't use concentrates in my expensive dry herb vapes, too messy (aside from a little herb/shatter/herb sandwich once in a while). This may be a very satisfactory answer to the OP's desire to vape concentrates and allow him to pick an herb vape without the compromises that requirement may drive.

You can get the EQ on sale. It is multipurpose like the Herbalaire and also has a remote control. Most people leave it on all the time on a low setting so they can use it on demand. I prefer using it with a whip and water but it does balloons as well.

Vapir Rise 2.0 is a terrific vape at a good price-point. Bags or whip. Comes with a concentrate cup and pads. And the fan is controllable (multi speed & on/off function). Easy to use and easy to clean. Also has a pretty cool party vape function where you can attach 4 whips at a time.

As a side, I am unclear on the notion that how many posts a related thread gets is in any way an indictment on the unit itself. Seems like an arbitrary qualifier with no real relevance. What exactly does it tell you?
