Hey FC!! I’m about to pull the trigger on a portable vape but can’t make up my mind. I’m open to almost any portable but I’m really going back and forth over the Summit, Firefly, Alfa and Crafty. Vastly different vapes I know. Here’s what I am looking for in my purchase:

- Discreet (most of my vaping is done indoor)

- Little to no odor seepage from vape itself (I hear the Crafty leaks odor during heat up)

- Ability to take one to three “rips/hits” per session.

- Even/thorough extraction.

- Ability to control how much or little medicine is consumed.

The Crafty obviously is the highest rated vape but a couple of the things I’m concerned about are odor leakage and the ability to take a one to three hits and come back to it. I guess I’m a little worried about over medicating and also wasting material.

The Firefly seems like it would be the next highest rated vape however my reservations with the Firefly are the learning curve issues people have talked about. This makes me think I will have and inconsistent experience with it in terms of extractions and controlling the meds.

The Summit or Alfa seems like it would meet my ability to be discreet and be able to sneak one or two in here and there. They are both nice looking vapes with good reviews but seem like they may be of inferior quality in comparison to the firefly or the Crafty.

I’ve considered others like the Arizer Air and the Pax 2 but from reading the reviews it seems like those are best for entire sessions in one shot not a rip here and there. Is this correct?

What are your thoughts FC? I am open to other vapes outside those mentioned as well. Thanks for your help!

P.S. I currently own an MFLB and some wax pen attachments.

***Thanks everyone for your input!!*** I decided to go with the Firefly. In reality I'm sure I will end up owning multiple including I hope at some point a desktop vape. Can't express how grateful I am for this community to help me along the way. Hopefully I'll reach a point where I'll be helping others as well.

Look into butane portables like the lotus or vapman. Planing on getting the mighty myself on payday, but looking more into those two, definitely going to be picking them up in the near future too.
from most of what you're looking for, and what I read about them, they cover you for most part.
Load smaller bowls
doesn't keep burning so shouldn't be seepage
there about 1 to 3 hitters from what reading
and don't have to worry about electrical failures
anyway may want to look into them if they sound your style just my:2c:

Why are u worried about minimal vapour leakage? If vaping indoors you will be exhaling clouds of vapour which will smell anyway? Also you can dump the load outta the crafty and re load / re hit.

Also check out the butane powered vapes .. vapman, lotus et al

Make that another person saying Arizer Air. Personally I would go with a crafty as I do not like the way the Air hits. Based on the criteria you will want the Air. Quick heat up time, rarely any smell, all around good vape. Mind you bowls take some time on that vape. Crafty will get you ripped in 3 pulls lol.

Thank you for those who have responded so far. Looks like the Air has a lot of supporters.

You have a point lol.

I'll take a look at the butane vapes mentioned although I'd prefer something battery powered. How is the learning curve with the Lotus, Vapman etc.?

If you have a little (?) patience, you may want to preorder the grasshopper. I haven't tried all 4 that you listed, but the ff as pure convection really let's you hit it and quit it (but the gh will do the same). But it is NOT stealthy. It does have great form factor and build quality. I find it too finicky, and prefer the Crafty. That is more of a session Vape, but you can control that by limiting the amount you put in the oven.

All the vapes on your list except the firefly are really session based vapes.

If you can use your magic flight with decent results I would think it'll only take a couple bowls to get decent results from the firefly.

I own a mess of vapes but none on your list, for the last 5-6 weeks I've been back using my mflb because I have a need for discretion right now and gotta say It's still hard to beat when I can only pull off a hit or two here and there and can't just sit back and do a session. I love my vapman, daisy, lily, lotus, VG's, and solo for portable use but at the moment with a couple young teens staying here they are all less then discreet.

In my honest opinion nothing really beats the Lunch Box for discretion and no vape I own now really gets me higher with less herb in the long run so maybe picking up some accessories for it could fill your need to try something new.

(if I could right now I would mainly be using my Vapman and Underdogs if I could, can't wait 'til these kids go home but I gotta say my Magic Flight is still pretty bad ass and in my mind still a Gold standard amongst portable vaporizers.)

So with the Crafty would I be able to pack a full bowl, take a rip or two at desired temp, turn it off, come back and do it again later? Or is there a reason this is not possible? Will there be any waste?

Definitely like my MFLB. I tried to just use wax pens only because those were truly convenient and discreet but I really like way vaping flower in the MFLB medicates me. I am in a similar situation as you except that it's permanent residents that I'm trying to keep my privacy.

I haven't tried that, but have read here that it's doable but not preferred. Seems not to taste as good. I usually fill halfway and cover with a screen. That works great with no waste. You'll play with amounts and find your sweet spot. Hope that helps!

Vapman learning curve is easy especially if youve prior vaping experience. And also that curve is pretty fun! Cant comment on the lotus but i can't imagine it takes long to get the hang of. Also it may be worth checking out the daisy ... fits most of your requirements .. not so discrete though.

You could use it like that but Since it uses a lot of the battery just heating up any session style vape before you can even hit it you may only get 6-8 hits per battery charge.

(hope that made sense I just finished a trench)

So taste is the main downside? I can probably live with that as its the med delivery I need. I vape like this with my MFLB and it does affect taste but that hasn't really been an issue. If I went with the Crafty or other session based vapes I'd either have to pack for one short session and use a screen or pack a full bowl at the expense of taste.

The Daisy looks perfect but your right not discreet, lol. I'm a grown man in my own home but I have little privacy lol.

If you have the time, you may want to pose that question on the Crafty and Mighty threads. People with experience can confirm if that's the only downside. For example, I don't know if that approach causes any product waste.

I wonder that myself.. I just asked the question about waste in the vaporization sub-forum. Maybe someone will know.

Thing is right now I'm easily medicated due to a long break but I know my tolerance will go up making a session the norm for me.

Hey i have a mighty ... you can come back to a load if you want to .. however it does seem to extract quite thoroughly and quite quickly. You can easily dump your load into a container and come back to it if your worried about it continuing to cook. Also with the oil pad on top you can just use small loads. Some people use very frugal amounts. I can use a vapman size load (0.05) no problem. Vapour production wont be nearly as dense as if you stuff 0.3 in there though.

@Ineedmedicine in your original post you said your worries about over medicating and wasting material. The crafty is good in this sense as you can set the temp of the device ... making it much easier to tailor your high. Also any of these vapes will save you material in the long run.

Actually from reading your posts im guessing you need to vape quickly quietly and discreetly at home away from wife/kids. I really think daisy might really fit your needs even though i never tried one. I dont think shes really that big. Is size that much of an issue?

Taste is pretty much all about ABV. The more you hit a bowl, the more you'll be vaping herb that's done (at that temp anyway) or nearly done. I would never buy a vape based on taste recommendations. It's much more about how much you load and how long you draw on the bowl than what model/brand it is.

As for waste, any vape with an enclosed heating chamber will continue to heat the herb after shutdown, until the temp has dropped below vaping range. Just take another hit or two after turning the unit off, in order to get the most out of a session.

You can definitely do that. I leave half bowls over 1 day. If I don't smoke it all the night before I keep it for tomorrow when I get home from work.

For your purposes you might take a look at the quickdraw 300, it heats up very fast and it super stealthy. It also takes cartridges so you can load up 2 or 3 small loads for the day. I have heard about some quality issues and my first unit was broken but my replacement has been going strong for a couple of months now. It also attaches directly to a 14mm water tool.

Exactly! you've nailed my situation to a T. Size isn't too big a deal. Something I can put in my pocket is preferable though.

Looks interesting. I'll have to check it out.
