Please help me find new strains I might like, as well as CA brands to look for.

I have somewhat limited taste when it comes to different strains, in that some cultivars (aka strains) either give me a headache that hurts enough for me to not go back to it, and some have terps that I don't like the taste or smell of enough to make the vaping experience unpleasant for me.

I've been doing this for decades, and have a pretty good idea of what elements work for me both medicinally as well as liking the taste / smell. I figured it was time to list what I like and don't like and see if anyone who likes the same kind of stuff can suggest ones to look out for that should fit.

Some of my favorites are (Separated into Sativa and Indica):

Sativa or at least sativa leaning:
Jack Herrer
Durban Poison
Blue Dream
Juicy Fruit
Tangie
Green Crack
Pineapple Express

Indica or leaning that way:
Purple Punch
GDP
Purple Urkle
(Various sort of Cheese flavored ones but it's been so long since I've had one, I can't remember any specific names)

Medically (physically), and taste-wise, I don't do well with ones that have much of a chemical, gas, pepper smell or taste, or spicy. If it has a tiny bit of earthiness, I can deal with it if it has other smells that I like and are much stronger, but if it's got a strong earthy smell, I won't probably like it.

If you have any that you have tried that you think fit what I like, please let me know. Thanks!

I would love to find some more that have that cheese flavor. And as you may have noticed, I prefer the sweet, grape, citrus ones as well, so any of those tend to do well for me.

I know a lot of people really like the types that don't work for me. I'm definitely not putting anyone down for what they like, just trying to stick to elements that have worked for me in the past, and avoid the elements that haven't. (Wanted to put that in because a post like this didn't go well for me on reddit. It was mostly people giving me shit for not liking what they are into, rather than making educated suggestions as I had asked. It was a waste of time.)

Also, if you have brands in California that you pretty much are always happy with, let me know. I'm going to be looking for big Xmas sales, and want to be prepared.

I have some Jupiter jack rn that’s super cheesy. I love it so much. Unfortunately everything from this brand is dry which is probs why they are often $24 an 8th on sale from $45 (like today I just checked weedmaps) lol. Seven Leaves. Different from SevenG (the $45 quarters)

Cheese has always been a rare find even when it was more popular 20 or so years ago

Pop around and get your ftp deals. Again, that shop i recommend in dm does ftp 30% off TWICE! All taxes included.

There’s so much product out there. What are some brand examples u like? And prices u pay? I don’t often see sales for holidays (excluding 420) that are better than a clubs daily deals. I don’t shop anywhere tax isn’t already included.

I’m only doing 710 or bear labs for dabs. I’ve been let down and grossed out too many times. I’m also picky.

Edit:
I also don’t go to trap shops anymore. When you burn and waste your herbs maybe you don’t taste all the uglies but when you vape it you taste everything wrong with the product. So gross.

I also love a cheese variety, still hard to come by though, even UK cheese that you'd think would be available in the UK lol... Need to look for some tbh, it's been a while...

On the citrus stuff, my absolute favourite tasting strain is grapefruit diesel. If you don't like diesels though, look for grapefruit, aka c99 or Cinderella. Such an amazing citrus flavour if you get a good pheno.

Blue cheese was the best but I haven't had it in 15 years lol different strains are different from different places different times etc so I don't find it that useful to focus on one, I have favorites etc but there are millions and they keep making more hybrids so it doesn't even matter? I always look up the hybrids to see what they are made of etc and get a better sense of the plant I'm buying, or deciding to buy, seeing other info about strains taking it all with a grain of salt from different sources since it's all super subjective and relative?? Anyway I like a good 50/50 hybrid, 60/40 leaning in either direction are also pretty awesome in my experience, though I like variety of everything! Yeah fruity stuff always preferred, blues and lemons, blueberry lemonade was good of course! I also really liked candyland when I had it good, tangiland was a nice variation hybrid with tangie

Twice? (do you mean for your first 2 visits?) When I read their page, I thought it said you couldn't combine deals, so, even with tax, the place near me that does free delivery was cheaper, except for the Bear Labs stuff. You can get CBX rosin at this place every monday for 50% off, so inc tax they range from $14-$26 per g of rosin, not resin. The $26 is Tear 2.

I'm mostly focused on flower for this buy. It's just so hard to find stuff that isn't dry or badly cured/tastes weird for the prices I keep hoping to pay.

The place that has the free delivery, that I mentioned in the DM, has 50% off all their top brands on Dec 25-25, and if I spend over $100 I get some sort of goody bag that is supposed have some actually good stuff in it. "If" is hilarious, because I'm sure I'm going to spend at least that, though I'd like to keep it under $200 inc tax combined for all the stuff I get. If the goody bag sucks, it doesn't really matter since I'm not buying extra to get it.

I will probably go in, in person one of those 2 days.

I rarely am able to get any flower of quality for $5/g, but that is always my goal. The place I mentioned in the DM, Loop Sanchez has 40% off their own brand for the first 3 visits, and their Jack H was AMAZING. I think it was $27 inc tax with that discount, for 3.5g. But the plan was if I liked it, then I would buy an Oz next time because they sell the Oz for $100 inc tax with the 40% off. But, they've been out of it for 2 months.

I can handle without stressing too much up to around $30 inc tax for 3.5g, if I know I can get the exact same flower for much cheaper when buying it by the Oz. I'm probably going to try the CBX flower at the place with the Xmas sale, but inc tax is a few bucks more than I'd like to spend, especially since I can't get it any cheaper by the Oz if I like it.

None of the brands I used to love buy, still exist. I'm not sure I even remember any names. And most of the best stuff I had was back when it was just medical, so a lot of stores just had huge jars and I could actually see and smell to decide. A year ago I had some thing like "Apple Pie" I think. I loved it, and the herb was fresh and well cured. I wouldn't be able to name another brand that I would go back to, that I've had since, except for the Loopy Sanchez. As far as flower goes. For resin and rosin, Bear Labs and Raw Garden have not yet let me down, and the CBX has been more than good enough at the discounted price I've been getting it at.

I'll never buy anything from West Coast Cure again, or Coastal Sun. Except for the 1 rosin I tried that was just ok, any stiizi stuff I got was awful too. Probably will just skip the brand entirely now.

I tend to stick to brands more than specific varieties and I always lean toward indica personally. I'm in the bay area but I prefer to stock up in either Sacramento or down south closer to central coast where Catalyst dispos are more prevalent for better deals and/or lower tax.

For flower I always try to seek out Turtle Pie whenever possible. Not sure if Greendawg Cultivators is still around but they're good as well. Other brands that I've found consistently good are
Lumpy's
CAM
Blueprint(I only see in Sac)
Royal Key

For concentrate I've had good rosin from Papa's Select and Punch Extracts. I don't buy resin much anymore but Beezle is usually solid and long ago I had some very tasty resin from Coldfire who I also go after almost exclusively for 510 carts but those last me a long time so I only buy a couple a year.

2tiki : i was thinking about your question & just wondering if we would even know what is available by you. I am in MD so stuff i might see & recommend like a Snoop Dogg (strong indica) (yes i think that is the name) . What are some dispensaries you normally shop at? I will see what i might have picked then...................... I am always looking for a balance in what i have on hand split in 3rds between strong sativa, even hybrids & indicas.

But for me i am all into the Landraces and early Landrace crosses are normally the kinds of things i look for. Most dispensaries here rarely provide you with any information about lineage of strains, which is one of my pet peeves.

Last winter when i was on a ski trip in Colorado we walked into a dispensary and its like i didn't recognize anything. all those fruity & desert names mean nothing after a while. Did i mention i like hash rosin & Jack Herer flower?

Lmk if anyone finds some old school Headband 🤤😍

Yes first two visits are 30% off entire order. You can’t go in on a 30% off bear labs day and get 60% off but they will let u save ur ftp 30 for another time and use the daily deal. That’s what they mean no stacking.

And yeah delivery is way cheaper but I don’t trust it. Lots of bad experiences. I’ve ordered specific things I’ve had previously (in person) and it’s never the same. I stay away from delivery only place like the plague but if ur shop delivers then that’s a safer bet.

+1 Catalyst is also another tax included decent shop. I have a few within 20-60 min.

Lots of cheap stuff out there. I’m not in the market for it so I can’t help much..

Here’s my current flavors (pics coming)

I have the least experience in the Cali marketplace, I’ve only had several trips out there.

I’m curious, how challenging is it to find a craft grower in Cali that can act as a medical provider?

If you like Tangie keep an eye out for Tangerine Queen. It is Tangie on steroids! I got mine in Canada, from BC. But I would guess the genetics are down there too.

I'm not exactly sure I understand what you mean.

As far as I know in California you just buy from dispensaries. Even though I have a medical recommendation, most places don't need it since it's also recreational legal here.

It seems like for the most part The brands that sell by the ounce are often very low-end ones, or sometimes very high-end ones that are still crazy expensive even for an ounce.

For instance, the CBX that I'm thinking about trying is regularly $60 for an eighth plus 30 to 38% tax. But the place I found recently has it on sale half off for $30 plus tax every Monday. Put that still more per gram than I can really afford if I'm going to use the amount I normally use. The crazy thing is even when they have an ounce available which is rare on that brand at that location, even with the sale it works out to the exact same price per gram is if I bought it per eighth.

I grew two plants in the tent years ago, and wish that I had the time and the patients to do it again so I could just get exactly what I want, But I just don't have it in me right now to do it again.

Well California is a big place, but I've never been able to find anything like that? Hard enough to find craft growing, and almost nothing is medically provided now?? Even prerecreational, I wouldn't call it very medical... It was like a formality, I think there was a more involved higher up medical card, but that is also not easy to get and I'm not sure what the benefits really were???

If you like Tangie keep an eye out for Tangerine Queen. It is Tangie on steroids! I got mine in Canada, from BC. But I would guess the genetics are down there too.

Never seen that one here, but I have seen hundreds of Tangie hybrids like it, tangerine dream moreso

Exactly, like mail order hemp, otherwise it's like buy the eighth for mystery stuff that could be good but is usually not fresh for vaping, always a crap shoot
