OFFTOPIC: I was just reading about the pineal gland and calcification. I am highly against sodium fluoride in the water and I think this is the governments way of preventing us from using our "third eye" and tapping into our subconscious psyche. will post a thread about this once I do more research weeee

i use pill bottles for the storage of different strains over long periods of time. could some of you please explain why you are opposed to pill bottles are storage?

the pill bottles, along with many plastic products, have a 'resin code' that symbolize the type of material that is being used. my pill bottles have the '5' code which is polypropylene. after looking it up here, it says that this type of material has a 'high melting point making it good for hot-filled liquids' and also has an application for 'containers for yogurt, margarine, takeout meals, and deli foods' .

to me it seems like pill bottles are a viable option if that is what you have access to but i could be wrong?

Depends on what they're made of. Here is a quote from my dispensaries site:

I have a couple of those humidity packs that I got from The Medical Cannabis Cup in LA. They work wonders. I have a separate stash that is already pregrinded that I use(with the humidity pack in it), while the rest is in storage. My dilemma is the storage. See, I have a bunch of strains in multiple pill bottles. I am aware that glass is better, but how can I test if a glass container is airtight? I have used many glass containers and my medication has always ended up dry by the end of the week. However, an exception is the famous Mason Jar. This is not an option for me because I only have 1g of each strain, plus the mason jars come in sizes that would DESTROY my wallet/bankaccount if I tried to fill.

So to sum everything up here are some questions.
How do I know if a glass container is airtight?
Where can I find affordable glass containers that are relatively small?
Where can I find humidity packs that are small enough to fit in the so mention glass containers?
If I were to put a NON-airtight container into a Airtight container, would that make the herb inside the NON-airtight container Not dry up? (Putting a pill bottle into a glass mason jar)
If I were to put multiple Non-airtight containers into a Airtight container and place a humidity pack into that airtight container, would that humidify all of the herbs inside the Non-airtight containers?

I have no idea what to use to measure the amount of moisture in herbs, but I think the 60-70% measurement comes from a device that's designed to measure the humidity in the surrounding air.

Interesting subject though, I would like to know a little more about this. Do you have a link perhaps Djonko?

another reason plastic is not preferred, besides possibly unhealthy chemicals formed, is that plastic is not completely airtight. at least, according to what I've read. if it's for short term storage of a vape/smoke stash you probably won't notice the difference, but for long term storage mason jars are the way to go.

there are also small mason jars, I have one that fits in the palm of my hand. it closes less tight as my bigger mason jars tough. I also have another that has the same size opening as the bigger ones and locks just as thight, but is still pretty small, I think it's about half as high as my UD, or maybe a bit more(haven't used or seen it for a while)
and they are not very expensive and easily available.

I don't understand why anyone would want to put their herbs in a plastic container, inside a glass mason jar. That seems like it would take up a lot of space unnecessarily.

I just keep my strains in their separate baggies, placed inside the mason jar, and vacuum sealed. I can keep several strains in one jar using this method. I also keep two large desiccant packs in the jar as well.

You know a container is 100% airtight if you fill it with strong smelling bud, let it sit for a few hours, then smell area where the lid closes.
With my Cvault, I get 0 smell whatsoever (which has a silicone strip and three heavy duty latches)

One very important thing about keeping your bud from getting too dry, is to only store it in containers where there isn't a bunch of empty air. The more empty space==>faster drying
A giant glass mason jar with two buds in it will dry the herb out much faster than a tiny metal jar that is fairly airtight.

That's why specialtybottle is neat, you can get all sorts of sizes without breaking the wallet.

I'm not necessarily going to be putting plastic into glass. Its more of curiosity. I mean, if it means it will perserve my herbs for longer, hell I'd put glass baby jars into big jars.

Okay, I will refrain from using plastic. I already have glass jars, but i am uncertain if they are airtight. I have negative experiences with glass jars. I once left a full 1/4 in a glass jar that i got from THC Finder and it dried out completely by the 2nd week.

Im right there with you on that post brother. I believe fluoride was also used to sterilize people in the concentration camps and to make them calm, but thats for another discussion

i got about 10 of them for a chem project. Idk if they're airtight enough though. THe only downside with the Cvault is that its expensive esp if you are trying to preserve low quantity of multiple strains

Oh, I would like everyone to know that the KindStack is not airtight. I've left out my buds in the kindstack after making sure I place them correctly on each other, Not missing a single thread. 2 Weeks after, my buds were all dry :<

I've never noticed the flavors or smells mixing with each other. I use a Pump N Seal to evacuate all the air from the mason jar. I also use two large desiccant packs inside the jar, and I keep the jar in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator. My herbs are always perfectly dried and cured. Storing them this way keeps them as good as the day I bought them.

See that's the thing. lwien is right. I just use one regular ziploc 1 quart baggy for each strain. However, it is possible I'm losing some trichs, even though I am really careful. Honestly, though, I think any loss is minimal.

IIRC, there was an article posted somewhere here, on the dangers of keeping our flowers in certain plastics. Once again, IIRC, I believe Lwien posted this, and it was an article from Cornerstone, or something.

If you choose plastic, make certain that it is chemically-inert, like polypropylene, so that the plastic doesn't react with the terpenes and phenols found on cannabis. Some of these natural chemicals react with plastics to create formalin, the precursor to formaldehyde (embalming fluid). Don't store your meds in baggies or other soft, oily plastics. Glass is an excellent storage medium, but use dark amber or cobalt glass. The only drawback to glass is that it carries a static charge that can collect trichomes from cannabis. At CRC, we use opaque polypropylene containers for our patients and large glass containers for storage."

Its always been my understanding that the reason one cures in a jar is the whole thing, air and bud throughout will equalize in humidity. You open it occasionally and it release moisture.
I've wondered about the 60% humidity. How long have you used the bags? I need to store a little through the summer but was concerned about the high moisture content.

well what you have to consider, is that air humidity is measured in the percentage of water what the air can hold, while the percentage with buds is how much of the total bud is water. so a very different measuring, 60% with the first is not 60% with the other.

also air humidity is gaseous water, in the buds is liquid.

so yes there is a balance, but it's not as simple as the same %

I never worried about moisture content. I've stored bud in the way that I've previously mentioned for over a year, and while a little dryer than when I first got it, it was still sticky and as good as new.

I keep the jar in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator.

Ditto in the summertime.

I found out about the humidipaks and the cvaults about 2 months ago. I bought 4 large cvaults and about 20 or so 62% humidipaks.

I love how the underside of the lid is made to hold the humidipak so that it doesn't come in direct contact with the herb, not a big deal anyways but I do like that feature.

My only worry is that the clamps used to secure the top of the cvault down will eventually wear down and fail. I try to be careful and not just snap the shit out of them.

I think they work great. After about 2 months some of my first packets are about 70% solidified. @ about a dollar a piece, pretty good value.

That said you don't need the cvault bc they are pricey, but you can throw a humidipak in damn near anything that you are already using and get great results.
