Phase3 Vaporizers

Re Neal Cassady: I highly recommend the biography Holy Goof by William Plummer. (… if you haven’t read it already … wait, no, I still recommend it, even if you have!)

Amazing that one man inspired, and was at the center of, two different American cultural revolutions, Beats and Hippies (very roughly speaking).

[ yes, yes, a bit OT, but I didn’t start it :shrug::lol: ]
He was legendary for his non-stop, in-the-moment, beat-style rapping, and his hair-raising driving.

OK, out of a feeling of obligation to restore thread-relevance, and since The Man Himself seems to be around (meaning @invertedisdead ), …

I am currently far from home and my beloved Phase3 ZX/ZB, but I had been wondering lately about the operation of, and especially potential hidden features of, my PID. Mine is the one which, if I understand correctly, ships with all Phase3 set-ups, and is sourced from Disorderly Conduction (although they might not be the actual manufacturers—a little unclear on this).

In any case, I didn’t get an instruction manual with my set-up, and have not found anything like that in a couple of casual searches on-line. Does anyone know if there is such a thing available?

In particular, I am one of those mis-guided souls who tried using the “SET” button on mine, only to realize that it would not prompt me or anything once I got there. (Yeah, I know: “prompt” with what, on that display?) Anyway, based on a few remarks here, I worry that I may have messed up some calibration or other configuration info in pressing “SET” and then (somehow!) managing to get back out of that mode.

Does Phase3 (i.e., you, @invertedisdead ) make any device-specific changes to the original configuration of the PID? Is there a way to re-set to original factory settings or, if you do make changes, to your specific settings? I mean, it works just fine for me (I mean: really fine!), but I do wonder sometimes … and curse myself for being so quick to mess around with things I didn’t really understand.

Finally, one thing I would really like is to re-configure it, if possible, so that by default I jump up or down by, say, 15° rather than the default single-degree bump. I tend to run up from 450° to about 540°, more hits at lower temps and then a few clean-ups at higher ones. I think I bump in 15° increments because that’s about the point where holding the button down suddenly accelerates considerably. But sometimes I miss, and then it’s a small bother to get back to my target temp. Having it go up by 15° per button hit would make all that a bit less fussy. (Another possibility would be that there are pre-set temp stops available somehow, which would also ease things.)

In any case, I’d appreciate any info that anyone (but especially Ryan himself) can supply about factory settings, Phase3-specific configuration, and other capabilities of the PID.

Thanks in advance! :bowdown::clap:

@invertedisdead How long are you planning to run the ZXL pre-order? I am definitely considering a purchase, but need to wait for my next paycheque before i can place.

A couple preorders came in over the weekend but we're still quite a ways away from even our small goal.
We just hit double digits in orders. So yeah, it's been a slow start thus far.

I'd like to try and hold out another week until next month starts to accommodate others and see if I can get a little surge of interest.

Some news about the ZXL ? Just to know if I place my pre-order.

Should be maybe better to do an anoucement to know the number of people interested, before to open the payment ? That is usually the way I saw for group buy in forum.

It's a nice idea but in practice people get excited and say "I'm in" or "I'd definitely buy that" but it's often just not true.
Sometimes the most enthusiastic parties making the request disappear when the order page pops up.

I started this campaign because of direct requests to bring the ZXL back.

If things don't pick up then I'll issue refunds and move on to something else.

It's all good either way, much love to everyone supporting the vision.

I used to send them out with Disorderly Conduction 3D printed controllers, but I stopped that quite a while ago.

If the controller housing is plastic it's from DC, if it's aluminum it's the same imported PID controller most vape companies sell.
Some people like Vapvana sell those green Crossing Tech controllers now, but those are made by a different company.

No, I don't make any changes or adjustments to the PID algorithm.
I used to mess with all that tuning years ago while I was developing these, but with a proper design like the ZX it's not necessary as the ZX minimizes thermal lag/resistance, despite technically being an insulator. :science:

I can reach out to my manufacturer and see if they have a PDF manual, if so I can post it or email it to you.

I don't believe the temperature increment can be adjusted on these but I can relate as I came up with that feature around 2018 and was lucky to have it implemented in my trusty Max Vapor controller, though I don't think they still sell them anymore. ☹️

Fine with me. Fingers crossed!

Nooooo.
But I completely understand your business model.

If anyone is on the fence, I'd encourage you to commit. The zx imo is the current Uber vape......

Or is it the zxl????

Ok, let us informed. On my side, when I said "I am in", I have only one word. But, since I have no guarantee, I will not pay the pre-order, especially if you say that you are far away from your goal of order and that you will probably abandon the project
:peace:

I'd be disappointed to see my order cancelled. Passed on ZX pre-orders in hopes of a ZXL revival.

Is FC the best place to advertise a ZXL? The vibe here has always been how do I get high from the least amount of herb possible, and there's already the ZX and a million other vapes to fill that niche.

The grow forums (ICMag, Overgrow) could be a good spot to drop the drop. They have more flower than they know what to do with and higher tolerances than people stretching their dispensary eighths.

Plenty of S&B customers haven't heard of a ball vape but have the cash to buy something better. How can they be reached?

Good thinking.

Although uk420, a grow site I infrequent, the Mighty is still considered as the no.1. Anything beyond s&b or dynavap is really too futuristic for them. The majority are smokers and whilst there are many green fingered experts, the general consensus seems to be 'hmmmm, not sure about that. Now where are my rizlas?'.
The idea of a zirconia vape with all the design considerations Ryan has gone through would be lost on the majority of them imo.
Maybe the US sites are a bit more mature wrt vapes?

I'm not on those forums tbh, but I have used them as resources.

It takes a long ass time to germinate, clone, veg, flower, dry and cure. A grower will appreciate a device that lets them taste their harvest at its best while also getting them ripped. A PHASE3 would be a great instrument to help find winning cultivars.

I didn't know ball vapes existed until watching a grow video on YT. Hadn't been on FC in years -- like over a decade. Thought I achieved end game by upgrading to S&B from Arizer. How little I knew! I actually went back to joints for a while because of how inefficient those vapes were.

I've been a proponent on r/vaporent and r/ballvape but I seem to be kinda lonely. There has to be multiples of folks wanting a recomendation, I just plug Phase3. How many people could we convert (oh shit, now I'm preaching) if we each took 20 minutes a day to surf reddit and proslytize ...

I'd try and get a handful of them in @VGOODIEZ store. Having them on the shelf conveys a sense of legitimacy to consumers who are used to buying brands. For aficionados, I'd test glass stores. They're already there looking for a better experience and they may find 'flower dabs' novel enough to try it out--they already have familiarity with the controllers, etc.
