Peer Reviewed Studies...........Are they real or are they funded frauds ??

This thread title/OP needs to reflect the distinction between privately funded research and independent research. There is peer reviewed research that is privately funded, and peer reviewed research which is not. The Peer Review part of the title is only going to lead to further conflation of private and independent research if we do not distinguish between the two. It would be helpful to change the title here to something like 'Drug efficacy studies for FDA approval, are they credible research or paid frauds'.

In the case of private funding from a company with a financial interest in the findings, there is a fundamental conflict of interest before the peer review stage. This is professional ethics 101. Privately funded research by any entity with a financial interests in the findings is simply not acceptable IMO as this conflict hurts the credibility of any findings of the study.

I am an independent academic researcher and I have NEVER been paid by any private institution for my research nor ever been told what my findings have to be. It helps that most of my research does not involve topics where a monied interest stands to gain from certain findings. Sadly, in drug trials, there's going to have to be much heavier regulation/auditing to avoid these problems. Remember in much of the rest of medical science, these kinds of conflicts are not relevant.

Wish I could edit the title. Unfortunately, I can't. Sorry.....
