3. Charging Fees
The College considers the medical document authorizing patient access to dried marijuana to be equivalent to a prescription. Prescriptions, together with activities related to prescriptions, are insured services. Accordingly, physicians must not charge patients or licensed producers of dried marijuana for completing the medical document, or for any activities associated with completing the medical document, including, but not limited to: assessing the patient; reviewing his/her chart; educating or informing the patient about the risks or benefits of dried marijuana; or confirming the validity of a prescription in accordance with the MMPR.

The doctor charged $300 to sign the document that was valid for one year, telling Zaid he’d be able to help him figure out dosages over time. Zaid has since been reimbursed by the Ontario Ministry of Health for the document, after a ruling that doctors cannot charge for them, similar to prescriptions.

I'm in Toronto and have been quoted $2000 for a script.

@killick
Do you buy from dispensaries?

The fee this doctor wants is $600 for a script. I know my family doctor is against it. And I'm not classified as someone who NEEDS it.

I live in Toronto. Not many doctors will provide a script. I do not have serious medical conditions like many of you. I have bad muscle pain in my chest from a collapsed lung years ago. This pain does go away with vaping. I also have real bad anxiety and at times cannot deal with reality. Getting high and zoning out helps me. Back when I lived in the Frat house in college they use to bring me my bong before discussing bills or important issues so I was more calm and relaxed.

I have the option to get a script. It'll cost me. My concern is this, do I really want to be in the system for this if I do not need to be?

If you have been charged for a prescription and live in (Toronto) Ontario, Canada please contact the Ontario Ministry of Health to get your money back. Doctors cannot charge for prescriptions here. Period. End of story.

If you are looking for a clinic that assesses patients for cannabis for free in Ontario try Cannabinoid Medicial Clinic or MRC services.

I have no issue getting weed. But my street guy good buddy only gets a few types of highs. He doesn't know what they are and the strain always changes. I'm trying to find that one good strain that will reduce my pain both physically and mentally. I feel a script will help that in that I know the strain I buy and can keep getting it.

If your weed is good, dont bother with the MMPR LPs, lots of poorly cured cannabis to chose from Tweed and Maricann and others, mainly mids, and some top shelf stuff thats way overpriced over at Tilray. They are currenly only allowed to sell dried cannabis, even though a supreme court decision already said any derivative is legal.

Getting an MMPR prescription lets you possess, thats the important part, and it also can get you access to dispensaries which IMO are way better in terms of product and selection.

Dispensaries are illegal but they have been operating for over 15 years now and have pretty consistent supply of top shelf cannabis, extracts, edibles, topicals, etc.

So a few weeks ago I found a '710Whip' dabbing thingamabob, so I ordered it. I was out of town so wife picked it up. Canada Border Services had their way with the package, opened it, and apparently were considering keeping it. When it was finally delivered there is an invoice for a few bucks worth of taxes, and a handwritted 'C-CARD' on the label. So this leads me to believe that somehow CBSA and HC are sharing data relating to this 'cannabis card'? Not that I really care, it's just the first time I've ever seen it. So I'm glad I have the card in my pocket...

I think you are just being paranoid. C in C-CARD is probably for Customs.
It was probably missing its customs card and they didnt know how much to charge you.
It is unlikely they can say that its only use is for cannabis resin.
Vaporizers can be used for many different herbs, they dont just have one use.
I've ordered quite a few vaporizers from the USA and all customs is ever looking for is their money.

Its not like you were shipping cannabis oil over the border, that they would have held onto and not cared if you were a medical patient or not, we cant import.

MMPR LPs can import cannabis but only from federally legal places. So they cant import from USA but they can from Netherlands (Bedrocan).

$2000 a year for a rec. is crazy, unless you're spending $1000/month on herb.

Have you checked around any? The first person on this thread said $350 for theirs.

I just paid $150 plus $50 advance fee. For my script/prescription here in Toronto.

I didn't want to ask my doctor even tho I would be eligible.

So with this script/perscription I can go to any dispenserie?
How do I apply for my licence to posse?

Sorry, new to all this still...
Thanks.

I was debating whether or not to renew my cannabis card here in WA state since the medical and the recreational is suppose to be rolling into one come this July.

I decided to renew it, its going to cost $100 and lasts a year. I will go a head and be put on a registry.

I will save only 10% on taxes. I want to have access to the medical products. I wonder if the recreational folks will be able to have access? Also if I want to make tinctures and oil I need more flower for that. I usually make oil every few months.

This is going to be a new system here. Our regular medical farmers will no longer exist for the dispensaries. It will be the big farms that are growing. I hope it will remain to be a quality product. I will stock up at the medical cannabis farmers market before its all over. I will miss it, it will be a sad day when it's over. Sorry off track.

The amounts that medical patients can have has been cut. I'm hoping that things can change in the legislature next year.
.
Edit
I would grow my own cannabis if my husband went along with it. It's his home too. He has no problem with me medicating using my vaporizer.

Did your Doctor send the forms in for you ?
and which LP did he suggest for you ?
Usually , once you're registered with the LP and
make your 1st purchase . They will send you your
cannabis , along with your license to possess .

If you are sending the forms yourself , the
prescription can " act " as a temporary license .

Yes , you can join any dispensaries and more than one .
But just as there are a few unscrupulous Doctors out there
to take advantage of the public by charging ridiculous fees .
So like , are the dispensaries that are popping up in town .
Like $20 / gram and $ 560 / oz . wtf !!! Luckily
you can check out most of their menu prices on leafly .

Good luck on your search .
( send me PM if you need more help )

Thanks for the info.
No the doctor didn't send in my script/perscription to anyone.
Gave me the original to take anywhere I want to go.
There were a few LP they recommend, and I am looking into registering with one myself with perception given.
Any recommendations on a good LP to register with?

Thanks again, appreciate all the information and your help!

This doctor went against the college and will be fined ($150+) from the ministry of health if you take action. They will literally get the $150 back from your doctor and give it to you.

The whole prescription thing is a bit of a health Canada scam. Most LPs will recommend a doc if you ask them. There are a bunch of companies that arrange prescriptions if you really need one. There are even a few orgs offering prescriptions to vets and first responders at no cost. This is especially helpful if you live in prohibition provinces like Alberta or Sask.

Anyways, thank goodness for docs doing prescriptions across borders... And for the bunch of you docs that don't or won't prescribe, you should call yourself dics....

So the Doctor , didn't even do any of the ' leg-work ' for
you . He just put pen to paper for his ' fees ' .
Did he at least , take your blood pressure and check your heart
rate ???

If you plan on getting your cannabis , strictly thru LP's .
Then go with one that may be more economically for you .
You can do some research by googling menu prices and
reviews on Cannabis.ca and leafly . Bedrocan and Maricann are
on the lower end and Tillray and Tweed are a bit ridiculous , even for
well grown weed .

LP's will only accept the Original copy of your script when registering .
Dispensaries may/will accept photo-copies of your script .
The novelty/necessity of ordering my MJ thru the mail has
worn off . I'd much prefer in person , up close , shopping
for my cannabis .

Congrats on being licensed .

I use LPs because my insurance company pays for product available throughLPs, and doesn't pay for meds through dispensaries. All my experience using MM with a scrip is through LPs. And the issues with LPs is they can only provide what Health Canada says they can provide. I had quite an interesting with a psych the day after the SC said that herb is still herb if it's not in flower form, and the psych was mad because the courts told the fed gov to stop being idiots. I had some rice crispy squares in my truck for emergency munchies, and until that court decision came out I, as a properly licensed MM patient could have gone to jail for having my MM in a non-flower form.

I like dispensaries - great selection of things. I use them to see what finished products are supposed to look like, and then I take my government-provided flower and turn it into the things they have at the dispensaries. It works fine for me, and is a lot cheaper than trying to buy my way through a dispensary. If Health Canada allows LPs to provide oils and other forms of meds I'll probably only go into a dispensary if there is something extra special there I need.

I guess this post is meant to let health Canada know that their silly laws and rules has created a whole pile of Canna Capable Cooking Classes. If anyone needs pointers let me know. My instructions are simple and quick, otherwise I'd never be able to follow them myself ;)

PS - there are a few cost effective LPs in Canada. Aurora MJ has low pricing, and offers compassionate pricing for those that can prove need. Bedrocan strains are $5/gram. There are other LPs with various pricing strategies. Bedrocan also offers a 'pre-insurance' option, where they will cover the patients costs and bill your insurer when it's time (see their website for factual details, and not my weak memory :)

PS - I'm a Canadian mil vet. Once we retire we fall under the same medical plan as the RCMP, and our plan is the only one in Canada that covers medical cannabis. Strange, eh? And if I get caught growing plants I *could* go to jail. In jail I will still receive my LP medical marijuana and be provided a place in which to use my meds safely. And this makes sense to Health Canada...

Removing the imposed taxes on MJ products and getting
ALL Heath Insurance Companies to assist with the individual patients
economical needs is what I'm wishing for ... next .

If the Gov. really want to remove the criminality aspect of cannabis .
Make it so affordable , so that , it's Not worthwhile for the Black market
to do biz .

Agree with the Green Thumb/cooking tutorials popping up .
I'll have to look at them too ...

Yup no leg work. Doc ask me a few question, told him about my medical history. He shook my hand and congratulated me after all I've been through. They pen to paper.
Nope, no blood pressure check and not even my heart rate lol. Pretty sad now that I think about it...

Yes I plan on going through a LP eventually.
But at the moment I prefer walking in dispenserie getting what I need, and out.
Also, nothing like seeing a product in person to help with my choices.

As of recently my only dispenserie I went to raised their prices...
The perscription couldn't of came at a better time. I need a new dispenserie.

I agree. Lower the cost to diminish the black market.

Thanks again, always appreciate the great information!

It was my choice. I could of refused and went somewhere else but I didn't.
After all that's said and done I don't mind paying the $200. It's more of a peace of mind thing. I'm just glad I finally got it. I didn't want to go threw my family doctor just cause I'm not sure he's on board with mm and I don't want to put him in any position to do so.

Plus, I'm not trying to get anyone in troubled.
If what he did was wrong it will catch up with him eventually.

I recently updated my script with one doc (mmj script company) and she did a quick workup and gave me a list of hoops to jump through for a 3 month script for $125 and then a follow up appointment for another $100. fuck that..

Then a buddy referred me to his doc and I spent 5 minutes with him talking about my useage and with him asking if and how MMj helps me. That was all he needed to know, he said. $75 for a year.

The issue is that your doctor double dipped.
He got paid for writing your script by OHIP, he got paid for assessing you by OHIP, then he got your extra cash.
You think that cash in no way influenced his decision?
Of course it did. Thats why it is not allowed.

If you feel your script is for legitimate use, you should also feel as though you illegitimately got your script. unless you try to get that money back you are admitting your script was purchased, so it is null and void and there is no purpose to it.

Technically if you actually use it to order LP weed you are further incriminating yourself by using the script you know is purchased. If you use it to try to get out of being arrested the same thing applies, you are using a script that was knowingly obtained unlawfully.

I know its just weed, and no one cares and you are unlikely to get into trouble.

However, if you went to a pain clinic and paid for an opiate script like oxy or dialaudid, im sure you'd feel a whole lot different about the situation (probably asking yourself why did the doctor just sell me this script, and should I actually fill it?).

I guess it depends if you can afford the prices they charge. In Colorado I think I paid just over $100 for the whole process. I had a temporary card in hand immediately and was able to go into a medical dispensary where the prices for most products are substantially lower than the retail dispensaries. I could have easily walked out with enough meds and saved cash to have paid for the prescription fees.

It's not just about the money savings, not that we should be gouged for medicine, but the other benefits. Member pricing. Your choice of caregiver as well as the ability for them to grow your plants and give you deep discounts because of that. Advice from a medical caregiver instead of someone who may just be there for a paycheck. Assistance from your MMJ doctor. I could go on without even mentioning the quality of product.

Downside, registry =( Worth it? I think, yes.

Regs are so fucked up and completely opposite in different areas. Here in MN, the "evil flowers" are banned so NO FLOWERS, only concentrates at about 4x or 5x the price of comparable flower meds :(
Some are paying up to $2000/month for meds.

High prices here are also boosted by only two med cannabis companies, a duopoly.
