Discontinued Pax Vaporizer by Ploom

Doubter here. I still don't see them, nor does anyone else I know.

This notch thing needs to be put to rest I have no idea what these people are claiming to see. All these pics showing a "notch" are not showing anything at all. Nothing different than what I see in mine, or what I have seen in other Pax(s).

Again look at the screen, it has little scallops along the edges. Look at the even wall at both ends it has a "crease" from being punched and as a result there is a ridge on both ends. There is nothing more here than a slight optical illusion and definitely no notches.

What is going on my fellow paxsters, I have been sliding in and out of this forum ever since I received my pax 3 months ago. I have had my ups and downs with my pax (considering this is my first vape and I have been combusting everyday for the past 10 years!!!!!) I haven't had any real issues, I'm still tryna gauge how often to clean given my everyday usage. Right now it's about once a week, I notice if I tend to go pass that the vapor quality and ease of vapor extraction can become extremely poor. I thank you for all your input and I honestly believe most of the problems I could of run into were already solved by members of this forum before I had them. I did not know pretty much anything about vapes besides a friend a couple years ago coming past my house with an extreme q which I thought was cool but still felt the need to smoke afterward, and of course the cheap box vapes that you might find at a head shop on the boardwalk Unimpressed. No one I really know has one and I really don't know what really made me want one so bad that I would spend 250 on my first, but to no regrets. I really want to find a reason to buy another one mainly because I only have experience with the pax and I want to compare but I can't make a decision on an alternative That provides anything the pax lax Corny I know, but any suggestions

***Update, Pax ran thru the Washing Machine***

I mentioned in an earlier post that I accidentally ran my pax thru the washer and probably killed it. Well, after a day of drying, I removed the screw and slide the body from the casing. It was bone dry with no signs of damage. I then used a little mouth piece lube on the still intact o-rings, and reassembled.
Long story short, it still works as good as it did on day one. I cannot believe it survived a trip thru the washer. Amazing!!!

One thing the Pax lacks is decent flavour. If you think your stash tastes good in the Pax, wait until you try a device that doesn't destroy the flavour by constantly heating the load.

This thread (or any thread about a specific device) is not a good place to ask for suggestions for another vapourizer. Decide what characteristics you want in your next vape and then check the Ask FC threads. There's dozens of "help me decide" threads there, or you can start yet another one.

This thing is great for conservation when you use the screen mod , I went one step further though . Rather than just rolling up a screen to fill the top half of the chamber , I also popped out the plate on the bottom and rolled up screen and put it between the plate and the bottom to raise the plate a bit .

It's crazy how little stuff you can get away with using if you want . 2 benefits to raising the plate are better airflow and the Pax doesn't dirty up as fast .

If you wanna try it just use a single screen under the plate , if you go too thick under the plate it wont lock into place and it will fall out every time , pita .

Look for convection-type vaporizers. They blow hot air through the load. When the hot air isn't blowing through it, the load isn't cooking. PAX is a conduction-type vaporizer. The hot oven walls are what heat up the herb. When you power down the unit it's still hot for a few minutes and also while it's heating up it cooks the herb a bit. So your herb undergoes more cooking with respect to how much you're actually using it. I have not found this to be a huge issue, as I am not a SUPER TASTER!

I often take my PAX with me on weekend outings. It serves me ok on a charge and one load. The mouthpiece sensor seems to be a little wonky sometimes. It often "thinks" the mouthpiece has been removed when I turn the unit on. I can remedy this by pushing the mouthpiece in or to the side to complete the circuit that seems to be broken by some cannabinoid sludge. It usually only acts up if it has not been cleaned for a few loads. This is sometimes annoying if I want to turn it on and ignore it while it's heating up. I cannot doe this because I have to make sure the mouthpiece is engaged, otherwise the oven won't heat up.

Despite that the PAX is a game changer. I vape in public almost daily, out in front of buildings or walking around, just like any other smoker. Nobody says anything or seems to notice. I even busted out with the PAX at an art museum while checking out some paintings.

You must have been doing it on low only because I get people noticing, but not saying anything or caring really beyond a look, when I'm on high and medium

There are two other issues here. They might not matter much to you either, but they might to others.

The first is odour. Clearly you are not a super smeller either, else you would recognize that because it is constantly heating the load, the Pax is constantly emitting odour. Pretty strong odour too, in fact more than every other continuous heat vapourizer that I've used. Just because people don't say anything doesn't mean they don't smell anything. I've long been convinced that aside from law enforcement or LEO wannabes, even people who disapprove won't say or do anything if they suspect you are using cannabis. In the case of the Pax, they can almost certainly smell it but they'll be confused because you aren't smoking it.

The second is degradation of the active components. Because the Pax has a large oven with a larger contact area than other devices, it degrades the load faster. This contributes to the Pax's reputation as a stash eater.

I had that sensor problem recently. It was so bad I couldn't complete a seasion. Contacted pax and they sent me some lube and that fixed the problem. It acts to enhance the contact of the sensor.

Yet not one decent picture of these notches nor one Pax I've seen with my own eyes that has these notches. You would think there would be at least one clear and decent picture of these notches somewhere on the interwebz, but there ain't.

I just received a brand new Pax today from Ploom to replace one of mine that was no longer heating.

The one I received is brand new, different serial # marking font than I have seen. The oven on it is IDENTICAL to the one it replaced, which I got originally in July 2012. I repeat - the ovens have not changed. The walls are smooth as a baby's bottom. There are no notches or ridges that I can see.

Probably the least confrontational way to say this is this:

The oven has always been the same. No changes have been made. If you think there are ridges or notches, I disagree. It is not because the design has changed, it is just because we disagree on whether or not there are notches or ridges in a Pax oven.

We are all looking at the same ovens. Draw your own conclusions.
