i got some cool new lights. I was using pax in frigid weather and it would go right to blinking blue on start up. I charged it up and same thing, i thought it was toast but later it worked at warmer ambient temperature, so pax needs to be above a minimum temp to work right. The temp light issue comes up sometimes but is relieved by clicking it open and closed or if necessary putting a little pressure on the mouthpiece. Temperamental little gadget but i love it

Hi all,

I'm new here, but not new to vaporizers. I built my own first electrified vaporizer back in 1997, and bought many vaporizers that made it to the market ever since.
Have been lurking on here for some time. Nice forum you guys have going.

Please excuse my english, I am not a native speaker.

I have a quick question concerning the charging voltage of the Pax:

if I remember correctly someone here mentioned that ploom claimed the charging voltage can be anywhere between 9V and 12V. Can anybody confirm this??

(when I conatacted them about it they said I should only use the included charger, and I should wait for their car charger if I require anything else. Can't blame them, many people have no idea about electronics and stuff, best play it safe and suggest customers not to tinker around)

Anyway, I have read how people on here use those car charger cables... is there a voltage converter somewhere? Or do you guys feed the car's 12V straight to the Pax?? So it should be possible to charge the pax with a car battery, so to speak?

Thanks in advance!

-Daf

Thank you for that link. I have seen that before, but it's not clear to me if this cable just feeds the 12V trough, or if there is a little hidden voltage regulator involved.

So yeah, thanks, but you were not really answering my question. No offence. I simply want to know what's the voltage range to charge a Pax? How accurate do these 9V need to be?

I got that Cobra cable, plugged it directly into my car lighter, and directly into the pax charger, and charged the pax with no issues in my car over a weekend camp out.

I talked to Ploom a while ago and they told me the Pax will accept any voltage 9-18v as long as the supply has enough current (1.3 amps)

After watching countless reviews on YouTube and reading reviews I found on vapeworld. I finally caved in and decided to splurge on a late birthday gift for myself. Ordered it Wednesday morning and got it nearly 24 hrs later cause I paid for overnight shipping. Im VERY impatient lol.

So first things first. I set it on the charger to charge completely. Once that was done I went ahead and filled my oven up and slightly packed it. Turned the device on and waited for the green light. Initially Pax had me at first hit. Flavor was insane!
However, about 5 draws later the cloud density went from pretty decent to little to none at all. :(
I checked the oven and it still looked pretty green. So im confused... lol

Forgot to mention... this is my first herb vaporizer. So maybe im doing it all wrong... I would appreciate any feedback (:

If you pull the mouthpiece off it shows you what temperature it's on, yellow is low, orange medium, red high. I like to start on yellow and turn it up when it gets thin, but you'll get way more than 5 draws on yellow.

The Pax works best when you draw slowly, if you draw too fast it cools down and you get green on top and black next to the metal. Try drawing like the end of a joint where you have to be gentle, just using your cheeks. That will let the heat spread through the oven and cook everything evenly

and slightly packed it.
Oh yeah jam's right make sure you pack it solid like a brick

Dafni - to more directly answer your question (aside from JoeKickass's direct specification) - that link is for a cord for a radar detector for its primary source of power. I think it's a safe bet that since the unit is designed to be used in that environment that the DC cable is simply pass-through to keep costs minimal and any regulation is done inside the radar detector unit itself (with primary rail remaining at 12V). This leads me to believe that these particular car cords being used to charge multiple Paxii (plural?) at around 14.4V on average (considering this is an average voltage coming from the average car alternator). Until anecdotal evidence comes in suggestion the car cable fried someone's Pax, I think we can set a safe range of operation to be ~9V to ~14.4V, which opens the doors on all kinds of possibilities ;)

Thank you very much, exactly what I was looking for. I knew you or somebody else mentioned something like this here, but I could not find it again.

Thank you. I was thinking something similar

Damn, I'm confused. My Pax only has one click and that's to turn it off and keep it off. Not to keep it half way pushed in? Also, my lid is always popping off. You can't notice it, but the LED light comes on... indicating that the mouthpiece is off and the green light changes to the current temp color. I clean it regularly tooooooo. :/ Should I just send it back?
I got a label to send mine back but then my grandmother passed away and I totally forgot about it. Its been like 4 mths since then and I just never sent it back. So I haven't been able to use it since. The mouthpiece is currently stuck in the unit and I can't get it off. I would send yours back and get it looked at.

The newer version of the Pax on the left, older one on the right. The newer one allows you to have a firmer grip on it.

I guess I got the old style even though I got it less than a month ago. Ordered though VapeWorld, maybe that's why.

I got a replacement from Vapeworld about a week or two ago and it's the old smoother finish. They obviously have old stock that they have to get rid of before they get new stock from Ploom. I'm not concerned, if this one fails too I'll send it back. Eventually I'll get the final version that doesn't screw up, or I'll have one that doesn't screw up. Either way.

My advice to new Pax owners is to fill the oven up all the way and pack it down! Hit on it slowly and after two or three hits, stir and pack it again. Learn to work the temp setting as well. I don't have any other vape experience but I can tell you that this is so much easier on my lungs.

I just thought I'd pass this along... I don't know if it will work for extremely dirty ovens, but for removing mild residue, I just take the empty oven, removed screen, and turn the Pax on high. As it's heating, I rub a dry/clean qtip around picking up the oils, do this a few times with fresh tips until you get a pretty clean and shiny oven. I don't know if this will work for everyone, but I just used this method and got good results. I saw some vapor rising off the cotton, but it did not appear to scorch. Be sure to use quality q tips (100% cotton). I use this method on my solo oven as well. I can't say how well this method will work for really dirty ovens, as I have not tried it yet, might just take more passes, more q tips to get it all. The high heat really helps loosen stuff up.

Cotton has a bit higher combustion temperature than herb, so if your herb isn't burning, cotton shouldn't either. (100% pure cotton - things added may flare up at much lower temperatures, so make sure you got what you think you got!)

On that note, a common thing to do with concentrates in other vapes is to smear a bit in a cotton ball and place that in the vape. I'm assuming since the Pax is mostly conduction that this wouldn't work in the Pax oven so well?

did they not ask you to return the old one? Pretty cool they're doing that (FUCK IT SEND HIM A NEW ONE!) theres probably not much they can reuse on these any way.

They sent me the replacement without me sending the original first. (I do have to send it back however, but I was still stoked to not have to send it first) & it's a She lol but no offense taken.

I started reading here when I got the temp-light issue. I haven't received the lube from Ploom yet, but I've found that pressing on the mouthpiece will force the contacts to connect. In the on position, with the light facing you, push on the side of the mp. Sort of a last resort, but blowing into the mp doesn't work all that well for me.

Ploom has a video on using the lube, for what it's worth.

I have a question: there's apparently an O ring on the mouthpiece? Can anyone post a picture of it? I think mine fell off but I'm not sure. Thanks.
