I thought I read someplace that you should not run the oven empty...maybe something to do with heat and internal components? Not sure...The taste may just be manufacturing oils that will burn off...

Hmmmmmmmm you might be right tweek that the pax was the one you shouldn't run empty. I still haven't heard complaints about plastic so put in some herb and burn the oils off. Or put in some abv and let it run. If you go back to the beginning where people started getting them you will find the answer. It will definitely be safe to run it with abv if you don't want to hit it.

Tweek good point to mention...I was just wondering that is all. I am sure if someone was out boarding and they didn't get a hit they wouldn't be happy.

I'm hoping its just manufacturing oils, and not some defect. It does appear that the acrid plastic taste/smell lessened after I ran the oven for ~3 minutes or so. But that may just be my nose acclimating to the smell... ?

Has anyone else had any similar experiences? Is this normal?

It tastes like new plastic / burnt plastic with an empty oven. Very strongly initially... (maybe) less after some burn off.

On a side note it took my pax 45.9 seconds to heat from room temperature to medium.
34.6 seconds to heat to low.
60.0 seconds to heat to high.
This is from new out of box batteries.

1. The restricted draw. It feels like trying to drink a very thick milk shake through a narrow straw when hitting the PAX.
I personally prefer the draw on the Wispr, but not necessarily the vapor that is produced...

I had the same problem with my Pax, it was like sucking on a straw in a thick milkshake and nothing will come up the straw, I contacted Ploom and they sent me out a new oven lid which took care of the restrictive draw and now it draws more like a cigar.

I also found out if you just tilt/crack the oven lid just a tiny bit it makes the draw a lot easier too.

If they claim it heats up in "as little as 30 seconds" it makes sense that yellow would be 30s, orange a little bit more,

but trust me, start on yellow.

Be sure to give it a good charge before first use if you have not. Battery takes a couple days to "Settle in" drop it on the charger when you are not using it and avoid draining it straight down.

I was wondering at the lower temperatures, do we get to vaporize CBN and CBD?

I found these temperatures somewhere online.
258.80ºF • aromatic terpenoids
300.74ºF • THC
403.34ºF • CBD
414.86ºF • CBN

Pax Temperature settings:
Low = 370F
Medium = 390F
High = 410F

Thoughts feelings?

In regards to my plastic burn in taste, jambandphan03 gave me this advice.

all of my vaporizers have had some kind of "burn in" period when new. I didn't find a bad taste with either of the two Pax I've had. I would take a Q tip, and Iso alcohol and wipe down the oven area, and maybe wash the mouthpiece. Make sure you are careful about the alcohol, maybe put a dry pipecleaner in the airpath to keep any alcohol from dripping down. You don't want it getting on the temp button. Make sure it's all dry before you try to test it. I would say you might be experiencing a new oven, and it should go away. If it stays really strong after a good wipe down, I would contact ploom in the morning about it.

I'll keep everyone updated! Man i think im lightheaded from all these plastic fumes, or maybe its psychosomatic...

unless something changed with the newer shipment, I did not experience any plastic smells/taste with either of the 2 pax I have had. This is actually the first I have heard anyone mention a plastic fume.

I found if I ran my pax with less than a full load, the oven got unusually hot...there is always the possibility that flynn, by running his/her pax empty, built up enough heat that needed someplace to go...and with no herb in the chamber, perhaps it started toasting internal components? Just something to consider, I dunno

No product ever enters the unit itself, you just have to clean the hose and the glass herbal container, as well as changing some screens every few weeks. I use smoke soap, which works awesome. The viVape 2 is really low maintenence! Its also cheaper than a volcano

Hmm, so I got my pax in the mail today.
I tried heating it up, taking an empty dry draw just to test the resistance and temperature. It tastes STRONGLY like bitter plastic. How do I remedy this?

Allison, I also have a viVape 2 as my main vaporizer, and an Iolite Wispr and PAX as my portable vapes.
Of the 3 I like the PAX the LEAST.
In addition to the myriad of problems outlined in this chain, there are a few things that I really dislike about the PAX.

I personally prefer the draw on the Wispr, but not necessarily the vapor that is produced.
2. The taste of the flower. This may have something to do with my specific flower, but I do not like the taste at all, especially after the flower has been sitting on the hot oven screen.
3. The smell coming out of the oven, especially on the high setting.

I think that some of the above issues are related to the fact that the PAX is a conduction device versus the viVape 2 being a convection device.
I believe that the Wispr is mainly a conduction vape also, but read somewhere that it uses a combination of the 2 heating methods.
I have emptied the PAX after a session, loaded the ABV into my viVape 2 wand and gotten 3-4 more strong hits, this after seeing no more vapor from the PAX.
When it comes to discreetness and general design though, nothing beats the PAX.

I agree with you on the convection vs conduction methods. The viVape 2 is heated with glass on glass, not a direct heat, so it gives the herb a nice even taste, as opposed to a few good hits followed by muted flavor. I actually ended up pre ordering my miVape this morning, and am really excited about it! It is supposed to be exactly like the viVape 2, but mini version, so I'm sure you would like it too!

Ok so after losing my first mouthpiece which I used for the first 3 weeks with no problems, I just received my new one from vapeworld. While I was waiting I COMPLETELY cleaned my pax with iso and pipe cleaners. Now I put on the new mouthpiece and it wont come out. Literally completely stuck in there and will not come out with any amount of force. Not only that but it is NOT EVEN RECOGNIZING the connection and straight showing the temp light even if I push the whole mouthpiece in an out. In my old one a tiny movement of the mouthpiece would result in recognized connection and a purple light.

That's too bad...never a nice feeling to spend money on something that isn't working for ya. Have you tried cleaning the spring area? I hate pulling springs out, but as a last resort, it may do the trick for you.

If it doesn't budge... how does it get pushed in and out?
Or is it functionally usable and just will not be removed?
If that is the case, it might work itself lose, after a few times.

its statements like this that push me away from the PAX when i start to want one.
