Thank you both. So I'll get some replacement screens. I'll keep an eye on the orbtronic. Thanks!

I didn't buy mine from orbtronic, if you google the model number you can find wholsalers from china selling them, I bought mine from one of them. Unfortunately, I'm wondering if I got a fake, or if it was mistreated at some point, because my "nuclear-powered" battery could only last 81 minutes.

Batter than my original battery's 54 minutes but not quite as good as I was hoping... and certainly not worth losing a 10-year warranty :\ oh well, had to find out :D

That's a 66% increase. I'm digging that. That link is in Europe and will be shipping in September

while my initial response was wanting to mod my pax very badly, i think i'll just hold off for the mivape and buy that instead of risking voiding my 10 year warranty and buying another pax :p

i say mivape because they claim 3-4 hours of continuous use, and have been testing for soooo long... also i have a vaporfection product i bought about 4-5 years ago (stealth II) which is still working today, so i definitely have confidence in the company.

Hey battery life is nice but it always comes with a price, either $$$ or weight...

I'd love the Pax if the battery lasted 30min, that's long enough for half a day out, and much longer than my mflb's single bowl battery...

And I'm still thinking about making my Pax charger battery-powered & getting a car adapter so I'm ready for multiple-day concerts, camping-trips, or the end of the world :ninja:
So you can forgot the expensive regulator I had in my other post, here are your options for powering your Pax on-the-go:

Car adapter
Spare Wall Adapter

Just make sure it's right-angled, the center is positive, and the size is close to 1.3mm ID, 3.5mm OD. Like Ploom said anything 9 to 18v will work!

If you want to charge your Pax away from any outlet or car at all you need to buy a wall adapter, cut the wire, and solder on a connector. Then you buy a spare battery: 2-3 Charges or 5-6 Charges, solder it to the other connector, and you can plug you Pax charger right into your battery pack. You need a charger for the spare battery pack and one more connector to make it easy to connect but it's under $100 now even with the big battery :brow:

So wait, you ordered an orbtronic cell off of a different distributor? That makes little sense to me since Orbtronic IS its own distributor.

Still, I'd say you got a fairly good cell even if it wasn't right from Orbtronic because of the performance you saw. This battery that you have; does it have a protection circuit on it? I was under the impression that the pax used an unprotected cell and incorporated the battery protection circuits on the main board of the unit itself. However I also know that the Panasonic NCR18650B cell requires a proprietary protection cell.

I think it is more likely that instead of getting a NCR18650B cell you either got a NCR18650A or just the NCR18650 cell. Those are 3100 and 2900mah respectively and that seems more in line with the increases you got. They don't need the special protection board either so they would for sure work with the pax.

I bought the Panasonic cell ncr18650b, I just like the orbtronic picture.

I think you're right, if you look at the orbtronic page the nominal voltage is 3.6v and the ending voltage is 2.5v, which is pretty low for a lithium battery. I think the Pax just has a conservative battery protection circuit, it might cut-off as high as 3v or so, so combined with a battery that can run-low, I'm only seeing a portion of the runtime increase.

A special board would just let the battery drain more than usual, but a higher cut-off voltage should be easier on the battery and make it last longer. I bought mine from here: http://www.cnqualitygoods.com/goods.php?id=1624 and it had the same ncr18650b sticker...

Actually the Chinese page says "2.75V, full charge 4.35V" so maybe it can actually take a higher charge? Which is pretty odd since no charger that I know charges to 4.35v lol

Ok to settle this I went to cpforums:
cpforums said:
"3400mAh - yes 4.35V - no" ... "why not?" ... "Because NCR18650B is 4.2V batt. and must say performs really good."
cpforums said:
"Yep, It is same as NCR18650A, but they "played" with enhanced nickel. I am not a chemist, but would like to work for free with Panasonic R&D"

notes: i put my pax on the charger at night before i go to bed, and remove it from the charger when i wake up. anyone up for the posibility that pax shows that its fully charged before it actually is (maybe at around ~80-90% of full capacity)? try leaving it on the charger after its already green, who knows they say its ok to do that anyway and the rules of lithium ion batteries also say its ok to leave it on the charger. :p
I think there's something to this. Previously, I'd take my pax off the charger as soon as it turned green and my battery life was closer to that of Joe's(his old battery anyway) than brian. Yesterday, I left it on for 30+ mins after green and I swore I got better battery life. I wasn't timing it, but that's my impression anyhow. I left my pax on the charger overnight and I haven't used it yet today, but I'll report back if I notice any difference.

Of course it's all about how you use it and for how long, but I brought mine to work today with a large pack in the oven. It was totally charged when I started and I totally cached the oven and it was still green. I'm talking 10-15 hits. I so look forward to my little walks outside now that I have this baby! And as much as I still love my MFLB, it just wouldn't work good in this particular situation.

My Pax had mouthpiece issues. Initially the contact wasn't proper causing my heat setting indicator to light during/negating my heat up cycle, and had moved to intermittently sticking in the closed position.

Ellen(always pleasant) said she'd get me a replacement mouthpiece by the following Monday. I received it four days early. Sorry to say it didn't fix the issue but as soon as I alerted them, they emailed me for my phone number and were on the phone with me straight away.
I'm posting because some member(s) posted a negative experience with customer service regarding their Pax. Ellen, Chad, and Greg(@Vapeworld) handled my issue, the shipping, and proposed turn-around time in a very friendly, efficient, professional manner.
They're going to great lengths to match this stellar device with stellar service.
I don't have my unit in hand, it's on it's way in for replacement, but I'm quite content.

My two cents when faced with a customer service issue. Call the company. Speak to someone on the phone. My 18 yr old and his buddies never call, they text and e-mail.
I know it may come as a surprise to some of the younger members but much of the old school business world still uses that archaic app on the texting device that allows you to comunicate with your voice.
Now get off my lawn!

I'm still into the battery switchout... That's some hefty performance increase.

I'll keep you guys updated, I'm hoping with some partial use and charging I can "work in" the battery somewhat, I'll do another runtime test in a few days.

On another note, I'm loving half-filled bowls! You don't even have to flip and the outside of the block gets nice and yellow!

Speaking of a car charger, has anyone found the correct car charger for the pax charging unit? I need to buy one for road trips I have coming up.

This is a particularly informative thread. I sure appreciated the dedicated posters with links, pics, cool diagrams, and a host of skillsets.:clap::nod::rockon:

I've been doing this a lot the last few days. I seems like it increases the tasty vapor-to-life of bowl ratio, if that makes any sense. Seems like a full bowl goes forever long after the initial tasty part has passed, whereas with half bowls, the the load is cashed pretty quickly after the taste is gone. I'll still pack full bowls if I know I'll be out a while for convenience sake, but if I'm at home or something, half bowls are the way to go.

Why smoke and die, when you can vape and fly?
I vote for JKA to make us the perfect vape.

Or better still, contact the manufacturer, Ploom, and suggest they replace the current battery with the one replaced by JKA. :hmm: With a bit of luck, Pax may by then be available in Australia.

this may have been covered before, but can someone post measurements of the outside dimensions and depth of the oven?

2clicker,
i finally received my Pax in the mail today, after a long wait i couldn't wait to get it out of the package. it definitely didn't disappoint. i'm fairly new the portable vaping world, but i made the brutal mistake of purchasing a puffit when they first came out with awful smell and taste so i had splurge and get myself a Pax. i'm glad i did. the Pax is so much easier to draw from and not to mention it taste a whole lot better too..but i do have a couple questions. does anyone know the actual temperatures for the heat settings? when i put my device on high it seems that it almost combusts my herb turning it dark dark black. thanks!

I agree, the ass-tasting hint of combustion is definitely noticeable!

But most people who keep their Pax on high start drawing on it early (after about 30s) and I think they must draw hard too so the temps stay low and the taste isn't ruined... that's the only thing I can think of anyway, my Pax stays on medium
