Organic Botanical Blends for E-Cigs?

Interesting, from what I read Essential Oils are also created through water-and-steam distillation process which seems a bit different but sorta the same, there seems to be a lot of controversy on what is and isn't safe to inhale, have you checked out the thread about Diacetyl on the E-Cig forum, apparently it can also come from natural sources, have you tested for this?

Thanks for checking in here, I like to hear from the sources.

I am familiar with that thread, and it is frequently used as a reference for the anti-organic folks.

There is diacetyl in every natural/organic butter flavor. The caramel flavor is extracted from carmelized butter, therefore it is safe to assume that there is some amount of it in there.

That said, every confirmed case of popcorn lung (so far, knock on wood) was a result of massive, massive dose of artificial butter flavor. But on the other hand, I would be hesitant to mix some juice with 5% organic butterscotch and make it my all day vape.

In the end, vapers are their own test-monkeys. My philosophy is that they deserve to know what it is they're testing. People should know what they're vaping so they can make their own, informed, decisions. I had mixed feelings even using the caramel flavor, but in the end what is important is letting people decide for themselves.

Side note: my flavors and essential oils (check the vanilla chai and toka-cola, a number are used in them) come from Medicine Flower. The tobacco is a co2 extract and is listed under perfumes. The EO, perfume, and flavors are all food-grade, just a difference in marketing.

JMcCord thank you for the honest and well thought out response, I see so from your standpoint Essential Oils/Flavors should be fine but in reality no one knows for sure 100% as it is with most things, guessing eating a bag of Doritos is probably more harmful. Thank you for listing your source, I might have to try some of your stuff, I appreciate the low sample prices also, the strawberry I am very interested in actually :-).

I keep watching the orders come in, no orders from Hillary Clinton. :)

We have blue lotus extract showing up tomorrow, Ratchett suggested it. I'm excited to pop that thing open - don't even know what to expect from it.

So, did we ever come up with a conclusion as to if limonene is safe to vape?

I personally did not. I've decided it's best to simply avoid all "juice" if possible. I personally intend to vaporizer all natural herbs from now on. It's simply not worth the risk to me (I never had a nicotine addiction, and no desire of having one).

I see this post as one of te most valuable read recently, too bad theres no answers lately! However @Ratchett may I please ask you, if there are any plants you can recommend to try in a herb vaporizer, for similar results as of medical cannabis? I am trying to figure an alternative legally available, with similar cloudy results - at least 3-4 from a load. Sage and peppermint is actually pretty good, they just not last. Conifers are fairly interesting as they produce a fairly tasty variety (for me, by smell anyway) terpenes, but not sure where to start science before I actually dare to experiment vaping it? Would that be really stupid you think?

This.

IMO don't use ejuices. VG and PG are responsible for the oxidation byproducts Glycidol and Propylene Oxide respectively, both are probably carcinogens and are found in the vapor of pure VG and pure PG without even mixing them with something else, as well as in mixed formulations.

Don't use terpenes that aren't provided with legit COA's to show test results from a qualified lab/lab tech. You need to confirm that what you have is nothing but the respective terpenes. Don't use large overall concentrations of terpenes in a given mixture (I suggest no more than ~20% or thereabouts total, including existing terpenes in your original extract if you are adding them to oil or something), this means that using a single terpene as a solvent to make an ejuice is inappropriate and potentially dangerous. Especially don't use large concentrations of any single terpene - alpha-pinene is a major culprit to watch out for here and is considerably more dangerous than d-limonene to inhale, even when not subjected to oxidation.

Whilst D-limonene itself is not necessarily the most harmful of the monoterpenes we find for this application, it's oxidation byproducts are noted to be a danger for inhalation. Remember, vaporization is an application where we would expect a good portion of the low boiling terps like d-limonene to oxidize, since we are using hotter temps to make sure the higher temp components boil off too. :2c:
