Oppinions regarding desktop choice

Hi FC,

It's been quite a while. So long I actually forgot I have an account on here even though I've been back and lurking again.

Anyway, I'm in the market for a desktop vape. I have a MFLB and firefly 2 so I'm covered with portables.

I'll give a brief outline of my situation because it may help in providing the input I'm looking for:

I recently began enjoying mj again after a couple year hiatus. I'm exclusively vaping due to several factors;
1) efficiency - I want the most out of my material since it's rather pricy and still frowned upon in my state
2) discretion - granted big clouds are about as subtle as a hand grenade..lol still, as I'm exclusively vaping on a patio outside my bedroom window, I can deal with the smell of vapor.
3) easy maintenance - due to my domestic situation I have to be able to keep my device clean and relatively smell free in order to keep things on the down low.

What I'm looking for is something that is fast (ready to go in 10 minutes or less from being turned on), efficient, easy to keep clean/low odor when not in use, powerful, and able to be used as a quick couple hits and go or a relaxed session master.

I realize that the above is a tall order and I do want to say I've done some research. So far I've got my eye on a few units, but, despite reading a great many pages in their respective forums, as well as watching several review vids, its hard to pick without trying each out in person before buying. I don't plan on getting another desktop for several years so I just want to make sure I'm shelling out for something withrealistic expectations in mind.

The top three contenders are:

Vapexhale Evo: I had an og cloud until a friend dropped in and the HT. Loved loved loved this thing. My only concern at this point is how easy it would be to keep the HT clean and pleasant smelling and if there's a decent pelicancase-esque case that would be compatible with the Evo and HT

Vapolution 3: Seems a lot like the Evo but maybe a more economic little brother. I can imagine the glass pieces are fairly easy to keep clean. Also I'd imagine secure storage would be pretty easy with this one as well.

Plenty: I like the price and Vape Critic's description makes this one seem mighty attractive despite the weird look and massive herb chamber.

Thanks for reading my monologue FC. I realize there is no "Best Vape" over all but I'm just hoping some of you more experienced vaporistas could provide your thoughts.

There is really nothing to clean on an EVO except for the ELBs once in a while (just drop in some ISO, take an old toothbrush to them lightly, rinse and dry) and of course all glass like the HT need to be cleaned also.

The EVO is great but have you considered a log vape like the Enano and others. Can leave it plugged in all day. Handles very small loads very well. Is very flexible. Requires pretty much NO maintenance aside from the glass stems/gongs needing to be cleaned like all glass.

Just a thought.

I had briefly considered an enano and it is appealing. What's kind of knocked it out of the running is potency. (Granted I haven't used an enano), but part of what I'm hoping to get is something that can get the user very medicated very quickly without having to go through multiple loads. I had assumed, perhaps erroneously, that the enano could get a person there, but it might take multiple loads due to the tiny bowl size. If that's incorrect please let me know as I may just go for an enano if so.

Thanks for the reply Baron, I appreciate it. Good stuff to consider

I personally thing, and many others do also, that the Enano is a GREAT extractor. Now, I set my adjustable basket screens for about a .5 -.7 gram load which is rather small. But it extracts very fully and a couple of loads is my good night medication and I have been consuming cannabis for a very long time. I do think the Enano is potent. Whether its for you, I can't say. But most who use it think its a terrific extractor. As is the EVO.

Now, @CarolKing mentioned in recent post that she sometimes sets her basket lower. I'm sure you can set it to work with .2 - .25 grams of fine ground herb without issue. But I don't use it that way.

Very quick, very easy, very potent.

Now, I do have an EVO with a Turbine HT also and its the Louisville slugger of desktops (well, Flower Pot, Sub and other 'herb nail' types notwithstanding). LOVE my EVO.

Either will do very well for you. The Enano is a bit more discrete (well, lot more discrete) and can often be left out with an aroma therapy cup and just tell people its for evaporating essential oils (which it will do...Epic makes and sells such a cup: https://epicvape.com/product/aroma-therapy-cup/).

Good luck. If you are down to the EVO or Enano, I predict you will be very happy.

Cheers mate.

I use my enano daily but for a party situation/ multiples the LSV is great. Big bowl to pass and easy to empty and refill.
I would get an Evo before the LSV but they are very different.

At this point I'm eyeing either the Evo or nano. Since you've had experience with both, how does the nano get on with water filtration? I've read enough of the dedicated thread to know that some people milk tubes well with this thing. Is there a limit to the volume of a piece that it'll work with. I'm assuming the Evo is only limited in this regard by the lungs of the user?

I actually had an lsv for a while a few years back. It was a solid vape, and you're right it's great for group sessions. These days I mostly indulge by myself though, and I want to try something other than a 7th floor vape. Nothing wrong with them by any means, I just feel like branching out. Thank you for the reply nonetheless! I greatly appreciate it.

The best extractor I've found isn't a plugin; it's my Sticky Brick HydraMaxx. My Volcano (digital) always takes multiple bags to get there; always.

But the HydraMaxx I toss it on my old VapeXHale glass (I had an EVO; it's dead and buried now) finish the first bowl and mmm... by the time you finish the second you should be very satisfied if you can even finish the first bowl.

P.S. You will get about 8 solid rips with a fairly full bowl; mix in some kief and you can go to 10-14 rips easily. So 2 bowls could easily be 16 rips

Sure it's not really the desktop option one expected (it being Butane) but the lack of throat hit makes a very pleasant experience for someone who has sensitive lungs. Very large rips (larger than EVO typically) with very little to no harshness.

I should hookup my Halo to it; a few users on reddit enjoy dry dabbing with the HydraBrick.

Herbalizer fits your needs well.

I'm not familiar with the herbalizer, looks like I need to put on my inspector cap and have a gander! Thanks for the input!

Sticky brick hydramax huh? Sounds intriguing. I'm not against an unconventional option like butane, so long as the vape in question works well, produces quality vapor, and is a one man rocket ship; I'm interested.

I'll give this one a look as well. Thanks for bringing this option to light!

Also: what's the deal with the surpreme v3? From what I've seen it's quick, heavy hitting, and fairly portable? How exactly does it work. I've read some of the thread and tried to look up some videos but still can't figure it out lol.

So the sticky brick is looking very very cool. Both vape critic and sneaky Pete did good videos about it... this may be the one. The clouds this thing seems to be able to make look like an e-cig in pure volume :freak:

So far what I really like about this thing:
1 - pure convection
2 - extraction
3 - the SPEED (Jeremy Clarkson voice)
4 - how self contained the thing seems to be when all boxed up

@damm , do you have a specific torch lighter you'd recommend? And have you found this thing to struggles with larger volume glass? Thanks so much again for bringing this vape to light! If my perception of this brick is true it might just be the desktop vape I've always been looking for

The torch that it comes with (brand is called Honest) is sufficient for me. I see people using a Zico Ergo, I believe its called though.

It doesn't struggle to milk any pieces up that I've found. I also like to use it dry, definitely produces huge clouds either way.

I have 2 Vapman Lighters (they hold 100ml) as far as larger glass; dunno I generally just sit the Hydrabomb on it and hold it with 1 hand. It's not too heavy so it usually sits on my palm. I have 2 for Extended usage (they get hot after 7-8 hits)

Cleanup is pretty easy; just take the tooth pick or tool and cleanup the bowl and use q-tips with a little soapy suds and then another with a little water if you need to cleanup combusting. That's the only real catch you really can't share this with a friend exactly; they need to know to take the flame about 2" from the intake and then lower it until you get the vapor amount you want.

It's real quick to get the hang of; I haven't combusted in quite some time regardless of the flame size.

You do get a little flavor imparted from the Walnut (for me) if you grab a Cherry it would be obviously more Cherry like. Very pleasant addition to the experience.

I put down my Volcano (digital) for this baby; I still own it sure. But there isn't really anything that hits harder; smoother. It's insanely versatile as you can grab Quartz Banger from Sticky Brick Labs and take dry dabs off of it.

Review the Thread on it; best 200$ I ever spent.

I must be a heavy user; I found the Honest torch to heatup after 2-3 pulls.

Thanks Damm! I'm giving the thread a look now. Btw the grain on your brick. Very nice.

I'll look into the lighters you mentioned too.

The Supreme V3 is the hardest vape I have ever tried. It's a complete beast. The brick on the back is a heat exchanger. You torch the heat exchamger to your desired temp and rip through water. Reheat again if you can handle more.

I love my Evo for chilling and letting folks hit it when I don't want to worry about explaining what to do, torches, etc. or just huge torchless hits if I don't want to mess with the SV3.

A log is also a worthy investment they medicate well are conservative and quick to use. Love both my logs use it almost daily.

Also I have been very, very impressed with the vapcap so far. Huge clouds and it's pocketable. Not a desktop but that M model is a steal for $40 and is a heavy hitter.

Thanks Puffers! Dunno why I couldn't figure out that's how the supreme worked. Interesting though, seems like a vape to put you in another dimension lol

As of now I'm seriously leaning towards the SB hydrabrick Maxx, as the performance and price make it seem like a great fit for what I'm looking for. Still, I can pull the trigger until next weekend at least so I may end up with something completely different. Time will tell

If you get the Hydrabrick Maxx you should pickup some Butane with it as the lighter (and the lighters I mention) do not come filled. So you will need some Butane first. I've been using some Vector 14x Cold Filtered Butane and it works very well. No after taste; not much to say other than every hit is amazing flavor and hits so hard.

I'm going to try Colbri next (no reason other than I can get another brand, the 14x is great)

Initial outlay is a bit; 200$ for it and then 20$ for butane and then the lighter but the end result is truly priceless. Walnut or Cherry it add's to the experience and Indica or Sativa you'll be up or in the couch just like you should be.

Good luck regardless what you pick

Thanks everyone. I do believe I'm going to go with the sbhb and probably pick up one of the inexpensive hts that was linked in the hydrabrick thread, or maybe get a nice tube or bubbler. Down the road I may pick up an Evo but for now this thing seems perfect.

I have a Daisy, stickybricks' predecessor. I think this style of vape is great for big hits which are truly impressive. One design aspect in the way this vape effects me caused me stop using them. I find the direct butane flame in the vapor path to be irritating, excessively dry, and made my chest feel tight. After I figured out what it was I pretty much avoid this vape (Daisy). No problems when I don't use it.

:2c:

Hm. Interesting. I'll definitely keep this in mind. Thanks!

You mentioned the enano and it sounds like you ignored other logs. I have the daisy and stopped using it for the same reason as others have mentioned. The underdog is a great log which comes with multiple stems including ones for water. You choose which ones you want and there are some that hold a micro dose and others that can hold a larger amount. It's a great log. (I think I own all the US made logs including the enano). A great option but more costly is the woodscent- you get the benefit of a plug in as well as a vapcap portable at the same time.

That's actually the predecessor for the OG. Each device has it's own differences; the OG has a the airpath in a metal straw (i believe) to connect the two different wood units (the OG brick comes apart into 4 pieces) where as the Hydrabrick air pathway is pretty nice.

You have a chamber above your herb chamber (some metal?) and you fill it up with herb and the flame heats up the air and there's a air intake path in the intake block that brings in cool air. So you take the hot air and push it into the herb and then it takes a 45 degree angle down a walnut pathway and then goes back up another 45 up into the 18mm adapter.

Hits are pretty cool after 7 or 8 sure I need some water. So like I said I use a Hydrabomb with water in it. So That reduces the harshness greatly. It's not really perfect dry with Flower; I could do dry hit dabs off a banger. Water pipe is very helpful with this beast.

150$ and it's something you can take to the EVO if you want (or not) get the stand (hydrafoot) and you can do a lot more (but that's another story)

You can surely get the china glass cheap; or find something locally that fits 18mm pretty well

Edited: whoops forgot some content.

The reason I haven't really looked beyond the nano is because I had always read that most log vapes take a decent amount of time to heat up and I need something that's ready to go in 10 minutes or less. If I'm mistaken about the heat up time I'll certainly give more logs a look

The Underdog can be used with a 15v adapter with one of the Voltage Controlling devices they sell and it heats up in under 10 minutes. There's nothing really negative to say about Underdog; their support is amazing and what they sell is even better.

I think there is some heat up time with any desktop that's not butane. The woodscent's is minimal because it uses the vapcap as a stem. I think most people set their log or desktop at a low heat setting and just leave it on so there is no wait.
I do have respiratory issues which may be why I had trouble with the daisy. The whisperscent is the only one I use without water.
The tubo and zion which are large portables are also mild enough for me to use without water. Both use batteries.
But I'm not a good reference since I have COPD.

Can I add my opinion?

I will vote for a vape nobody mentionned, the Herbalaire H3, look at this bad boy!

The Plenty is nice as a heavy medicater or a party vape but you can't microdose.

The Evo is very nice (I only used the Cloud+ myself) but is designed mainly for water filtration.

The Vapolution3 looks like a good contender (I never used/tested it), maybe I'll try to catch one in the future.

Log Vapes are really nice, always ready to go if you let it plugged (they don't use a lot of juice) but I use them mainly for daily maintenance use cause it's a micro-doser and you will have to reload a lot to get where you want if you have a high tolerance.

Difficult choice... I recommand the Herbalaire first cause it was the vape which convinced me about vaporisation!

edit: Forgotten the Herborizer Ti, same price range than the Evo but a large step better imo..
