I don't have much time, but it kind of looks like jareds mouthpiece is creating suction, on top of the issues you guys mentioned.
Good point, however as DubC says it's fairly normal and not a show stopper. It's separate from a leak except in the case where hot oil is left in the flue (center 'leak' in photo above, although it's not a leak really.....) so it can drain down through the heater and down the vent tube into the socket to make a mess and a real leak (where stuff comes out the bottom). I'd suggest switching to the soft mouthpiece until it's sorted out, I find they deal with lots of oil coming up the pipe a lot better. Have you guys seen this too?
As DubC says, if you can clear the oil from the flue (out the top and back into the tank) before it cools you should have not enough left to drain down and leak out.
