Old Everyday Things that Don't Exist Anymore.......

My grandfather would tell me stories about how he bought one of the first TVs with a remote control (I'm assuming my Dad was alive then since hes now in his late 60s). Just like any man, he seemed pretty proud of being an early adopter of technology (cant wait to tell my daughter about the first HDTV I bought)!

Anyway, he swore that when the dog scratched its head and hit his collar a certain way, it would change the channel. IIRC those things actually ran off of audible tones (like a tuning fork), so its plausible.

Used to love to sit in a Bar and shake my keys to change the channel on the TV most of the people had no idea what was going on. Oh yes, Good times.

We had an old console TV with remote at the family home, up until 7 or 8 years ago. My Dad holds onto things, until he can't repair them anymore. Then they sit in the basement collecting dust, because he is afraid to throw anything out, just in case it becomes valuable again.

When my dad was a kid in Chicago in the early 1940s,
everyone in his large apartment building had:

Home telephones that were coin operated.

Every week the telephone guy would come into your apartment and collect the change.
So efficient!

I LOVE using a typewriter...I always found there was a rhythm to it, that really helped with writing. I would carry mine around on extended trips, etc.

I'm not going to post a pic... but I used, for several years, a wringer washer. Oh, and how about a clothesline? not a folding one, but a real one, with big steel T-posts.

Quickly leaving items, like Facsimile machines, pagers, telephones with cords, incandescent light bulbs, and white out.

@Havelock Vetenari, I've got my Brothers typewriter in my closet. I haven't had to use it for a really long time, plus I need more film for it (running low IIRC). I should write someone a letter.
