My grandfather would tell me stories about how he bought one of the first TVs with a remote control (I'm assuming my Dad was alive then since hes now in his late 60s). Just like any man, he seemed pretty proud of being an early adopter of technology (cant wait to tell my daughter about the first HDTV I bought)!
Anyway, he swore that when the dog scratched its head and hit his collar a certain way, it would change the channel. IIRC those things actually ran off of audible tones (like a tuning fork), so its plausible.
