S&B support says using a US charger on a EU model will void the warranty if something happens. I find it pretty unlikely the models are different (chargers excepted), but they didn't address that.

Yeah that’s strange, took a look at their charger images and the localized chargers are clearly the same, but with the removable plugs swapped to a locale specific plug.
The wall wart has listed input power with tolerance for both US and EU standards (100-240v) and output voltage of 12v/3.5A, but that might not’ve always been the case. I’d assume that you either got outdated info or an inexperienced tech.

agreed. good customer service/tech support is a rare thing these days (I assume they mostly read from company-supplied scripts), so I'm not surprised.
