North FL dispensary vape options for FC scrutiny

Here are some links of current vape options offered by local dispensaries, and keep in mind that THIS IS IT for a many hundred mile radius. I want input about quality of appliances, ability to microdose beyond the factory presets, environmental impact of the throw-away materials, safety of vapor path, etc. See, I come from MICRO dose vaping only organically grown FLOWER with MFLB, my own DIY torch driven, and my favorite, the Lotus. I am happy that people are not restricted to CBD, but not happy about the current "legal" device choices....and note that many of the non-vapable alternatives offered have cutting agents that are migraine triggers....

A multi-temp setting device (the health department tried to shut this option down because of the possibility of users breaking open the vape cup cartridges and SMOKING the contents):
https://www.trulieve.com/shop/trulieve-herb-cup-vaporizer

A disposable e-cig like device:
https://www.surterra.com/products/relief-vaporizer-cartridge/

A rechargeable flowermate type device:
https://www.trulieve.com/shop/mystica-vaporizer

Can this concentrate be vaped?
https://www.trulieve.com/shop/truclear-concentrate-syringe-1275mg-indica

This dispensary's website features vape cartridges but no mention of devices...perhaps when visited in person the devices, such as a Volcano, can be purchased:

If the above were your only options, what would you or someone you know choose and why?

That relief vaporizer pen looks pretty good, seems the ingredients are canabis oil and terpenes, so this makes me wonder if it's a distillate that has been infused with terpenes. This would probably have the best potential for potency. I am unfamiliar with the flower vapes, so I can't offer any suggestions in that regard.

Personally, I would check and see if enails are able to be used, if that's the case you have a lot of options for at-home vaping. That combined with the pen should cover most if not all bases.

Thanks! I'll elaborate more here: my most effective method previously has been to microdose at a LOW temp. It seems that the higher the temp I've tried, the more likely I will actually trigger a migraine rather than prevent one. I will need a daily preventative dose to deal with my condition. ABV material always gave me headaches so I have to wonder about CBD. I've seen on reddit other migraineurs complaining that CBD gives them massive headaches.

You should be able to microdose at lower temps with most devices. The little pens included, you should be able to adjust the voltage which is basically what controls the temperature, and time inhaling determines the dose. If you can get your hands on some CBD isolate, you could experiment with that, it is also edible as it's already decarboxylated and active. I like to take a little bit of CBD orally and vape THC material in conjunction. This may be helpful if the vaporization effects of CBD are not giving you the relief you need.

In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king
I recently visited Vegas which is legal for medical and recreational. They sell flower as well as everything else. I had never tried a cartridge and e-cig-vape-pen combo before Vegas. I brought my own cheap CE4 e-cig with me since they didn't advertise any on their web site that I checked before getting to Vegas. Some of the Trulieve options look similar to the options I selected in Vegas.

In Vegas I picked a Gorilla Glue #4 distillate cartridge and used it with my CE4 E-cig. Another person I was with got the same cartridge and also bought the matching e-cig the bud-tender recommended for $5. The maker of the "house" e-cig/battery and the maker of the cartridge where the same company. My e-cig and the "house" e-cig/battery were both standard 510 threaded.

My CE4 worked but it was harsh as hell, killed the taste and required I work a button. The "house" e-cig was on-demand (turns on when inhaled-no button), was very smooth and highlighted the terpene tastiness. I went back to the dispensary and got the "house" e-cig. Lesson learned. Match them up if you can.

The bud-tender said two hits would be enough for a good buzz and each cartridge would produce around 100 draws if not abused or wasted. She was correct.

About the migraines...my wife gets them 24/7 for weeks/months at a time. Cannabis is a big help and on rare occasions has been known to stop a migraine temporarily. Even when cannabis doesn't affect the migraine pain directly it still is more than worthwhile because it works on the nausea and gives her an appetite. Without the cannabis she'd wouldn't be able to eat and sleep would be a problem as well. We finally found relief through Botox treatments but it's given in 3 month treatments and wears off 2 weeks before the 3 months are up so once again cannabis to the rescue for at least 2 weeks.

EDIT: Given the choice between distillate and flowers we'd choose flowers. That distillate cartridge with full THC is too intense for us on a consistent basis. I could just about feel my tolerance increasing. For a week vacation though it was amazing.

Thanks @His_Highness. I noticed somewhere a reviewer said Surterra vape products tasted like gasoline. :D

I am really sorry about your wife's migraine. Mine used to be that bad until I got a genetic profile that showed me all the hidden triggers I was missing. Now I just react from fumes and scoliosis issues. Does your wife find that the main thing with mmj is that sometimes even if the pain can't be eliminated the MOOD improvement means the world to her? That's true for me. I get suicidal ideation from the pain very frequently without the help of THC's psychoactivity. I take a megadose of flush niacin as I saw recommended online for the psychosis symptoms.

The only electric vapes I've ever used were the Puffit 2 and then the Palm 2 when the Puffit died, so I am very ignorant about pens and cigs, so I appreciate your rec for the "house" e-cig.

Did you notice the 10-day supply mentioned for the Relief and other formulas for the house e-cig?
"10 day supply of 20+ mg SDU, with 210mg of active cannabinoid content per cartridge (21mg CBD, 189mg THC) for $45"

45.00 for a ten day supply gave me sticker shock, but maybe that is the dispensary's way of being able to give people more med under the eyes of the state, considering you said your vender quoted a hundred draws. Although I have to wonder because the state imposes upward limits of THC depending on the condition treated. But then I read around that the dispensaries all have the same upward limit for everyone and that is why it is called a doctor RECOMMENDATION and not a prescription. I have a copy of the complete legal statute so I will read it yet again.

I am a lightweight user! I do NOT like CBD heavy anything because it seems to trigger headaches. However, all the dispensaries have a good selection of THC:CBD ratios. But I can't do any of their tinctures and capsules because of the cutting agents.

One big plus maybe is the certifying doctor I chose is a specialist in palliative care and anesthesiology so he really understands pain, and on his clinic's website he argues for his patients' right to smoke whole flower if that is what works for them. He originally got involved in mmj in Florida because his brother was dying of cancer.

Florida has a high profile cannabis advocate: http://www.politico.com/magazine/st...d-make-john-morgan-governor-of-florida-215446

Now that so many people from the Caribbean are flooding into Florida our voter base may be BLUE next election. :) And then self-medicating legally will force the mmj scene to improve.

@hibeam - When I first looked into the FL regs you had to have a terminal condition to get anything with a THC level that could provide a high. Currently .... Patients who have cancer, epilepsy, glaucoma, HIV, AIDS, Crohn's disease, PTSD, Parkinson's disease, ALS, multiple sclerosis, or a "debilitating medical condition." (For the foreseeable future, expect a lot of regulatory pushback and not many recommendations from physicians unless your condition is one named in the amendment.) The Florida law ambiguous criterion is—“Chronic, Non-malignant pain”—that may allow doctors to prescribe pot for anxiety, migraines and other afflictions.) The new Legislature did lessen some restrictions, eliminating the 90-day waiting period for patients to qualify and reducing the amount of training required by doctors from eight to two hours.

I wouldn't rely on the 10 day supply rating as each person is different. The $45 price you quoted is close to what Vegas was charging for the top distillate cartridges. They had some starting at $35. The higher the price the higher the quality in terms of additives and/or THC. I found that the e-cig delivery could be easily managed to provide the 100 or more draws I was told I could expect. The cartridge could deliver MASSIVE clouds and it was crazy in terms of potency. It only took one session to realize I didn't need those massive clouds and I began to moderate the draw. 2 whispy draws was enough to get us very happy.... so assuming 100 draws that would be 50 highs for $45 or .90 cents per high. How many days could you get with 50 highs? I wish flowers were legal because it's my "full spectrum" preference and I wish patients could grow their own.

Sometimes cannabis can alleviate the pain for my wife all together but it's less than a 50/50 shot. We were both surprised years ago when she felt a migraine just ramping up, vaped an already used Solo stem with a little buzz left in it and her migraine stopped. We chase that result using the same "ABV" approach but it's hit and miss for a full out stoppage. When the ABV doesn't help... full out medicating is what's needed. Her potential to enjoy a full out session depends on the pain level. 7 and above and she doesn't enjoy cannabis but definitely needs it. Level 5-6, as you said, the mood elevation is key. Anything below a level 5 is a vacation for her and she enjoys the high. What is constant is the elimination of nausea and the increase in appetite. The nausea aspect alone is worth the price of admission. Another thing we noticed is the sooner in the cycle medication occurs the better the result. Waiting until the migraine is in full swing to medicate isn't nearly as effective.

Am I reading this right? Cancer puts you in the high thc list?

My question about the FL registry is can the feds access it? Or is it private?

The recently signed bill states "Ensure that qualified patients can receive low-THC cannabis as well as full-THC marijuana". So not only does Cancer qualify but so do the others I mentioned above.

I have no idea whether the Feds can access the registry.....

@His_Highness thanks for elaboration on the e-cig functions. I know migraine is just a name for the way a body over-reacts to certain stimuli and it is tough to treat because we really are all unique in exactly how and why our migraines happen. Thanks for sharing more details about her managing it, to help anyone reading this thread.

My certifying doctor already remarked that THC is what helps his other migraineur patients. I have not been in to get my rec yet, but it is just a matter of a few more weeks while I also wait for my temporary card. Other certifying dox in the area have the rep of being less likely to rec THC so I went with the one, albeit more expensive, who KNOWS PAIN. So we will see. I will report back.

@Tuck that is a really good question about the feds and the registry. I found this in h1397e.HHS.PDF: " must be accessible to law enforcement agencies" which probably means it is not private in the sense you mean. I guess the feds require the state to give LEOs a way to check on the validity of a card in question.

Since I started this thread I have been using Trulieve's herb cup vaporizer. The device is designed to accept perforated ceramic capsules of ground dry flower. Does this mean that the entire contents of the capsule is subject to terpene degradation as the user reheats the material for subsequent doses until the material is dry/abv? It seems that way through usage, the lowest temp no longer producing any effective vapor after even a small initial dose. It is a convection device, but what about the super hot air re-exposures to the material?

@hibeam - Sorry...I have no experience, YET, with Trulieve's herb cup vaporizer. We're still waiting for the card. Not sure what is taking so long...according to the web site they have processed the $75 fee and loaded up the filled out form. The only thing missing seems to be the picture ID that we supplied with the mail-in form and $75 check which hasn't been applied. Tried calling them but it eventually just hangs up without ever answering.

Did you supply a mail in form with the $75 fee and a photo for the ID? I don't understand how they could cash the $75 check and upload the form but miss the photo ID we included.

My cert doc sent me to Surterra who took and uploaded my photo for me and snail mailed my money order for me. I got my temp permit email only four weeks later right before my rec appointment. Maybe a dispensary can help you with the photo. I was told not to try providing my own because the rejection rate was so high...wtf...and that Surterra had a good template to do it right.
