Noob Advice: Dry Vape vs. Carts

I've browsed the forum and understand the benefit of Dry herb Vape vs. Traditional flower smoking. (I smoke through a water filled glass pipe). Anyway, there is conflicting info out there are cart vaping so I was wondering if someone can make the comparison for me. I've never been comfortable with the carts I get, I det them at a proper medical dispensary and I hate edibles. Can someone lay out the benefits for me? I am looking at the Mighty Might 2 which I would filter through glass. One of my goals is to reduce the smell which I've been told is a benefit to dry vaping.

Edit: I am not totally sold on the Mighty Might 2. I keep reading about ball vapes.

Sorry if this isnt the proper forum. I'm new here.

Carts stink way less, IMO than vaping flower.
Carts and pens are WAY smaller and arguably more discrete than any flower vape.
Carts are super easy to travel with and take anywhere.

Despite the benefits above, I find carts are not nearly as effective as a good flower vape, and I find carts WAY less effective than a dab on a rig.

I keep reading about ball vapes.
If you like smoking through a water-filled pipe you will love a ball vape on the same water pipe.
I went the TIODW route as they are cheap, the mini is my pick so far with 4mm rubies and their Ti bowl

Right, I understand. Thats why I still use carts. I live in PA and its cold here half the year. With a cart, I can hit it in the room, but the smell goes away quickly. I don't like it though. It feels artificial. Good to know, others are telling me the opposite. I know nothing about dabs on a rig. I have access to it at the dispensary, but am not educated on either the wax format of whatever the crystalized version is. I'm old school in that way, like give me the flower and I'll just use my pipe but if there are better options for my lungs, Im looking at them now. As mentioned, I don't enjoy edibles. They dont feel the same for me. I know plenty of people who disagree but they just aren't the same and harder to dose.

I actually did come across ball vapes. I can't visualize how this would work. I don't have a standard bowl on my pipe. Even then, I say the Tiny Might Purple has stem you get with it with balls. I was confused though, as the balls are placed after the herb gets heated. Isn’t this pointless if the whole point of the balls is better airflow to the actual herb (not your lungs)? I admit, I'm still learning about them. Half of these ball vapes have some big thing you have to plug into the wall with temp control.

I recently acquired a Tinymight 2 Purple Heart. The glass balls in the optional stem remain inside the stem while the unit is heated.

The balls can remain during regular cleaning. In theory they are removable (and customers are sent some spare balls), but AFAIK the glass balls rarely need to be removed if the stem is cleaned regularly.

Carts IMO do have some advantages. Devices are cheap and the sizing is discrete. Well-made juice can produce delicious vapor.

The downsides for me? One doesn't really know what goes in that juice. What solvents were used to extract? What remains? What are the health effects of vaping the carriers? I do not know the answer to these questions.

With dry-herb, one has the confidence of knowing there are no adulterants in the vape, assuming a clean path. The devices themselves do tend to require an "investment," however, assuming one does not go too wild with VAS (vape acquisition syndrome) the cost of consumption is likely to go way down. Dry-herb vaping is cost-effective and efficient.

Dry-herb vaping is also a boon to those growing their own or with access to homegrown.

With a TM2 PH you would enjoy a world-class portable DHV. The vapor quality is somewhat different than a cart, but it is excellent in its own right. The temperature is adjustable, so one can low-temp turp-chase (as I do) or one can go Cheech and Chong in "beast mode."

The TM2 can pack a punch. No cause for concern, you will "get there."

I very much enjoy the dry-vape experience. When dialed-in, vaping allows one to enjoy the taste profile of the strain (or one can just rip).

I started using a lot of concentrates and carts as a way to reduce combustion. Dry-vaping, to my mind, is the next step in making a heath-conscious choice that allows me to enjoy cannabis--including the delicious flavors--while minimizing the downside risks.

I have a tiny little cart pen that I think is the bomb. I have given copies of my battery as gifts to friends. I know the cart offerings that I like locally, etc.

Since embracing dry-herb vaping, I've stopped purchasing carts and concentrates. That has not been due to so "vow" on my part or some conscious "boycott," instead I'm loving the benefits of DHV.

I'd ask: What are your goals?

Yeah you will want a vape like the TM, that is essentially a glass pipe, chillum stem one hitter bat, that is your chamber and pathway, can use a WPA, great through hooks and dry glass or water, plenty of aftermarket stems too for cooling etc... You load the bud and then stick that into the TM, hold down the button, it vibrates and you take your hit, let go keep inhaling to clear... It has a dial on the bottom with a full temp range, I temp-step each hit, starting very low dry, really nice, can turn up higher to finish quicker which is useful through water, it even has a mode that will keep the button held down for you as well. Pretty simple build, much more so than mighty, much more control, more pure and more power, all around a better experience and more traditional smoking pipe like (mighty would be more like loading and puffing on a joint, a session that is cooking creating the vapor for you... Arizer Solo 3 would be a better option for that since it uses the glass stems imo)

Comparing with carts, yeah it always feels like you never know what you're getting, something's missing, depending on the quality of the oil it will probably not be full spectrum, you don't need to know all the differences of concentrate, but you should know there are plenty out there that just don't give you everything and are amped up with THC but missing everything else... Other stuff is more expensive and tricky to work with, I've been dabbing a lot at home with nice recyclers now and small amounts temperature control, really simple and pure, because I haven't been getting great bud... But I would always rely on vaping bud more previously, carts were just a necessity out and about and stealth, there are some vapes that can be quite mobile this way like firewood9 (can be considered similar to TM2 in practical use and is also on sale so cheaper, it is sleeker more portable, except it is more conduction on demand, still a full temp range and the same replaceable batteries, it is designed to be used as a chamber you load like the mighty, or the ceramic chambers can be separate so you can have plenty pre-packed ready to go depending which version of the FW9 you buy, it is convertible) plugins at home can be useful and more effective especially through water, but potentially more involved too...

Balls in a heater are used to add mass, and a complicated air flow pattern to heat the air for strong convection heating (you need high surface area in the heater for good convection to maintain heat while you are inhaling the heat through the herbs to vaporize... Conduction heating requires much less power and is more old school tech with the session style devices) however balls in a stem, are disrupting the airflow with hot vapor after the fact, to create a path that is complex and offers obstruction to cool the hot vapor with colder glass, of course back to back it will get hot too, they are not all created equal they're a lot of different designs, there are also spikes etc to do this, but what does the most for cooling is actually right angled bends, that's why good hooks can be very effective, and dry glass, check out donuts and Swiss Fab for other complicated glass vapor paths that are really nice for dry vapor cooling actually

I've taken a liking to Live Rosin Carts in disposable form but vaping flower is still my favorite.

In summary.....Live Rosin Carts are supposed to be made by picking and immediately freezing the flower, placing the frozen flower into a heated vice and squeezing the golden brown liquid goodness out of the flower and then reheating the golden brown goodness until it can be used in a cart with nothing else added. So....There are no additives. May not completely fit your requirements because they do smell more than your normal dry herb vape or flower.

Well said! I also find carts extremely hard on my throat. My throat prefers a flower vaporizer through a water piece.

This. 👆 I'll take a live rosin carts out with me under certain circumstances, but much prefer the effects of my flower. I don't bother with distillate or even live resin.

I've made tinctures, bubble hash rosin, flower rosin and dry sift, but only to give to others. It's flower for me personally, 95%+ of the time.

I'm going to second what @Shit Snacks and @His_Highness, and now @Photonic all say, especially about Rosin, as oppsed to just about every other form of concentrate(distillates).
Rosin is the one that does not use any solvents in extraction process, and the one that still has (almost) all the goodies, beyond just thc, from the plant.

Try live rosin (not resin) cart, see what you think. And use a battery (heater) that will allow very low vaping temp or wattage, like 2.0, to get best flavor.

My preference, always, is flower in a dry herb vape. Like you, I don't like edibles, or the high from oil distillate carts.

My go-to lately has been Sunburn dispo Live Rosin Disposable carts. Can usually get a .5g cart for $20 and under .... and I've yet to have a cart stop working or taste burnt. I guess they do a decent job of matching up the hardware and oil.

Nothing beats the convenience of carts, but if you prefer herb over oil then a vape at home is the move
