I've been using D-nails new 220v EU model of the 1.2 for the past two weeks... and it's incredible :o The Silicone carbide wipes the floor with any other nail I've tried, the flavour is great.

Cleaning is a complete breeze too. Very glad I waited for a EU D-nail release and I'm looking forward to grabbing some Sapphire inserts and a Quartz halo for further experimentation

Happy new year!

Glad to see d nail over here in the eu, did you get it via vapefiend per chance @Carl Hempel ? Seen he's getting in a steady stream of enails and dabbing gear of late, your setup looks great by the way and the sic dish is giving you great results, I considered getting a dnail for the states but with all the import charges and the like I thought I'd wait it out until they finally came here, so glad they did big up D nail :)

Yep, Vapefiend have the 220v 1.2's and the Ninja Nails  they've also told me they will be stocking more D-nail accessories in the near future too - which is great!

Big up D-nail absolutely, this set up has revolutionised my Dabbing experience!

@MileHighLife so not only did I pull the plug on the flat coil but I snagged a 20mm one as well to go with this http://www.cca710.com/quartz-nails/#cc-m-product-12372444229 turtle banger I picked up for a little 10mm micro recycler I won on IG from randall glass

I am not digging the slim line at all - the nail always smells hot and it you dry hit the rig with the nail on you can taste it 100% - seems like without anything under the coil that pathway is just getting fucking cooked

I've used the slim series since long before they were released (probably 1.5-2 months before release) and my glass joint never gets hot, there is never a smell unless I have just reassembled the nail recently and gotten oils from my hands onto the coil (which boil as the coil heats up and can take quite some time to boil away if you are only heating the coil to low temps).

I have used 3 x different slim series bases and never replicated the issue you are discussing. This is of course not to say you didn't experience things as you say ;)

Still I do not use the retainer underneath the coil and never have. I have never had any taste like you discuss coming through my rig.

Out of interest, what kind of flat coil were you running bro? Did you notice any unusual taste when dabbing or only dry test inhales without the carb cap on?

Also a very happy new year to all of my dabbing FC friends!!

Well the Ti pathway gets hot with and without the heater retainer in place but with the heater retainer under the coil the joint stays cooler than without the heater retainer. I don't notice any weird tastes or smells except on brand new Ti I get a strange after taste in my mouth but that seems to go away after the first couple of uses. Is your base brand new? Is your rig clean? As @herbivore21 mentioned if you've handled your nail before turning it on it'll smell weird for a minute or 2.

Since I'll finally have a compatible e-nail as of Monday, I'm going to be ordering an extended life flat coil from D-Nail to use with the Quartz Halo and occasionally the SiC. I'm going to keep the new Gimido coil and use it as a backup for the next time it dies. While I'm ordering would it make sense to also get a heater retainer and maybe locking nut to use with the HE male base? Mainly thinking of using the retainer between the coil and Halo to help heat distribution but I forget if there was a solid verdict on that. Could use it below as well though that seems to be more for utility than performance. It's only $10 so I might just get it either way but I wanted to poke the FC Brain first to be sure.

Maybe it was just with me, but watch out. I emailed D-Nail for support with purchasing a heater for use with my new Gimido. I even have pin-out's, schematics, and the such to make sure everything is wired correctly. The response I got shut me down, wasn't helpful, and basically said that it wasn't an easy request and that regardless they absolutely would not honor even a DOA warranty because I'm not using their equipment. I realize their website makes it sound like ordering one of their heaters for a non-D-Nail kit is doable and routine but when I contacted them I sure didn't get that impression! Kinda sucks as I've heard nothing but good things about their heaters, but... I'm not going to buy a heater from a company who won't even honor a DOA should it arrive and not work from the get-go! I've heard of others successfully purchasing a heater for a non-D-Nail unit from them so I'm not sure why I didn't have any luck or what's changed?

My guess would be they've gotten some warranty/DOA claims for coils used on third party units. A coil that appears DOA could just have mismatched pin-outs and would be damaged as a result if used. Also legal liability and all that jazz too. Since the pin-outs match I'm going to take the risk and go with it.

D-Nail came out with a calculator based on their temperature graphs so you can "nail" down your surface temps. I usually go by feel but it would be especially useful when you first get it.

I thought the same thing but I've talked to others in the past who were able to communicate with D-Nail prior to their purchase and because they were able to verify everything was wired correctly, D-Nail told them they would provide a DOA warranty. That must have changed, though their website page on heaters still makes it sound like this is normal and doesn't even mention the lack of a DOA warranty. The potential for failure may be small, but I would still be worried to purchase from them knowing that if it was DOA I was screwed!

KittensTasteYummy,
:hmm: I would like to please ask for a bit of help if anyone is willing... All of my current nails are Ti. I've used quartz in the past but that's it. I've been reading great things about ceramic and am ready to give it a shot.

I was hoping you guys could recommend a decent ceramic nail to go with my Gimido enail? I currently have one of Gimido's 100w flat coils but plan to upgrade to a better coil (another flat coil) in the future. If there is a nail available that has a replaceable bowl/cup for when broken that would be even better. I'm looking to spend between $50 and $100. I've been searching but ceramic is new to me and besides cheap ebay type nails, I'm having a hard time finding a ceramic nail that says it's compatible with flat coils. Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks greatly for your help!

The only decent Ceramic Nail I've found so far that fits flat coils is the 3-Piece nail for sale at domeless.com. I've also read a lot about Hive in the forums but I don't see any nails on their site that work with flat coils.

You should consider the D-Nail SiC Halo, it'll work with your flat coil and it's becoming a popular one here. Unless you smash it it won't break, it's $80 plus you'll need a base for another $50. Some people love ceramic, I didn't since it gunked up quickly making it hard to keep clean, it breakable and you can't really torch it. With the SiC you can torch the shit out of it to clean and it won't break.

If you want ceramic with no Ti in the airway the Domeless.com one you mentioned works great and is the only one compatible with flat coils that I know of. If you go that route I'd suggest getting the iDab carb cap and the unslotted dish and you'll be in flavor country.

Thanks, unless someone knows of something better that is exactly what I plan to purchase! Along with the price, I also like the fact that they sell individual pieces to their ceramic nail so should something break I don't have to purchase the whole thing, just the broken piece.

One question, I was going to also get their "Dab Cap." What is it about the iDab carb cap that makes you recommend it over domeless.com's dab cap? Thanks much for the help and suggestion!

This is def an interesting option and I need to read up on it a lot more as I've never heard about it before and I know very little about silicon carbide. The price is a bit more than I want to spend (I would have to buy the base as well) though if the experience is on par with ceramic and as good as you say I might be able to spend a bit more. How is the flavor affected by the titanium base? Thank you!

I'm considering your suggestion. I'm wondering if you or anyone else has any experience with the new D-Nail "Slim-Series" because that's what I'm considering paring the SIC Halo with. Also, I'm reading about convection vaporization with the sapphire inserts and that sounds intriguing. Is that something worth considering in the future (that would be one reason to push me towards this more expensive choice). Thanks!

@MileHighLife @herbivore21

my slimline is pretty new - at least 20 hours on it though by now - should be enough that the new ti smell has gone away - I never experienced the smell or taste with my v1.3 base

as far as handling the nail and oils from my hands etc - I dunno about that one as again this was never an issue before I started using the slimeline and hours later it still smells the same - hot and it definitely tastes BAD when you pull it with no dabs

i just cleaned everything last night

I'd read through the last 5-10 pages, should clarify things a bit for both the Slim Series and convection dabbing on the sapphire insert. I can only personally speak for the insert, it was awesome before it broke but it only broke because I torched cleaned it. Probably not replacing it since I like the regular surfaces enough and I dab too much that it gets to be a pain. For the Slim Series, some people mentioned a possible clearance issue with some third party flat coils which are taller than D-Nail's since the threaded tube isn't tall enough. Some recent posts detailed this further.

I'd also check out the official D-Nail thread starting here.

NOOOOOOOO. MY SIC!!! F $#k..... I wased doing my regular rig cleaning and I pulled the insert out of the liger took the apart and cleaned it an put it back together then too my Sic insert and torch cleaned it holding it with ceramic tipped tweezers (fantastic investment....FYI) then I dropped the insert back into the liger but there must have been a drop or two of water in the dish cause instanthe popping noise and the Sic is in like 5 piece in the dish......I was under the impression SIC was practically immune to thermal shocknow or I would have been meticulous wiping out the last drops of water like I do with my quartz...was I misinformed on the thermal durability of SiC....or is there some causation that I'm not seeing

D-Nail said 700 degrees of thermal shock I believe. Dunno if their sic is somehow "different". Really bummed for you sorry man :/

Thanks, I've been following this thread but after my initial post saying I had purchased an enail I somehow missed the next couple of pages. I just scanned back and followed the link you provided. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it!

I am a huge fan of the dab cap on the domeless ceramic nail. I think it is the main reason I haven't moved away from my 710 whip to an auber/sic combo of some sort yet. The convenience of just dropping your dab in the hole and not having to cap is super nice imo, but I am a lazy bastard at heart!

The Honey Hole cap cca710 has in the works might be something you'd be interested in. I have a(few) medical conditions that leave different parts of my body fairly useless at points. I had been looking into a cap to use when one of my arms is out of commission. I was planning on grabbing the cap you mentioned, but it still required some fine motor skills to target the hole. Ended up reading about the storm cap on here which led me to the information about the new cap, The Honey Hole cap. Made to dab and cap at the same time. Air flows through the dabber to keep it cool.

Perfect for my particular medical situation and I don't think you could beat it when it comes to laziness. Of course, its still not quite available, but something I think you'd be interested in.

Sorry for the loss Gonzo  hopefully this cautionary tale is a warning to all of us Liger users. I have the Quartz & Sic inserts and have pretty much stopped using all my other bangers and domeless nails. Due to my OCD's I try to keep everything as clean as possible but I only clean when I know I won't be dabbing for a few days (usually because of work). I'll turn up the enail to 950 for a few to clean the Sic insert and it does a real nice job. The Liger itself & Storm Cap get cleaned with ISO and Q-tips and that's it. I have this solution (710 Cleaner) in a old coffee mug that I drop my Quartz insert into. Next day I'll run it under warm water then let it cool and give it a quick ISO bath. Comes out looking brand new like the day I got it. I've been saving the 'old pooled' wax from my other Quartz bangers so I have enough to 'season' the Quartz insert again.
