Gear Need Help Choosing Portable Concentrate Vape

c76man

In search of the best terps and smoothest vapor
Looking for recommendation on a pocketable, portable vape for concentrates that fits the following:

  • Last at least 20+ hits before reloading required
  • Newbie friendly so I can share with friends and not worry about technique or clogging.
  • Below is some additional considerations
Long time lurker, but first time member and poster! Based on reading threads here, I currently use a MFLB for flowers and VB Dabbler for concentrates. I really love my Dabbler and find the MFLB fits my needs reasonably well. However, I am looking for a portable vape that I can fit in my pocket for concentrates (I have access to a wide variety here in Colorado with my medical card). My Dabbler fits the bill, except I would like something that can load more material at a time. I'm leaning towards an Omnicron (see the V2 is on clearance, is the V2.5 upgrade worth it?). However, I am a bit concerned with the loading learning curve and possible clogging from novice users. Anything better I should consider? As long as it fits in the pocket, and is legitimately fits my needs, I am willing to spend a few more bucks. Thanks for the assist, I'm getting a bit overwhelmed with choices and opposing opinions.

The new W9 SR-74 cart has taken quite a bit of the learning curve out of the Hercules units in terms of maintenance as well as technique. Granted it'll still take a little bit for you to master it however once you do, instructing other novice users in person will be relatively easy.

As for pocketability... it can be done but itll be akin to putting a (much heavier) full sized magic marker in your pocket. Of course you can always detatch the cartridge. Carrying separately from the battery makes it pretty portable. Fits fine in my hard shell sunglasses case for example.

The other thing I should point out is ttht the Hercukes cartridge requires you to use the more powerful (and expensive) Persei versus an Omicron since it runs at 7.4v.

http://www.w9tech.com/hercules-sr-74/

Pros?

  • Better flavor than a Ti nail.
  • Portable
  • Instant vapor production
  • Ability to load well over .5g at once
  • No clogging
  • Completely serviceable/cleanable for reclaim and maintenance.
  • Super clean. No wicks or wire heaters, only ceramic and titanium.
  • HUGE cloud production if you want it or small flavor filled sips if you need it.
Cons?

  • Size
  • Cost
  • Requires a 7.4v power supply.
  • More complicated then a load as you go style exposed wick cart.
  • Eats through batteries.

Thanks for the recommendation. I was always intimidated by the Hercules. But I think it's worth another look.

Check out the cera also. I love mine and carry it with me all the time, in fact at any given time chances are I have my cera with the LL core packed, the eo core loaded and in the canister it came in from TET, a spare battery and a jyarz in my 2 front pockets.

Thanks for taking the time to throw in your thoughts on the Cera. I've read up on that one a lot. I'm sold on function and ease of use, but the pictures and some negative comments about pocket ability turned me away. I'll put it back on the list. I guess this is why folks end up with a vape collection. No one device is perfect.

The cera is definitely on the heavy side but I can't imagine it being bigger than a persei with the herc on it. Going on memory alone I would say my cera is the same diameter as my persei was. The unit alone is shorter but once you add the cart it is probably pretty close to the same size. I suppose the persei/herc can be unscrewed so you can carry it in 2 pieces but I preferred to carry everything together so I don't have to futz around putting it back together to take a hit. Also I was always worried about ripping the thread out if I leaned on it too hard while in my pocket (I have no rational reasoning for thinking this could happen and never heard of it happening to anyone's persei but it was something that concerned me as a potential problem)

I guess the major difference I guess is that the Persei/Hercules can be unscrewed so the total height is cut in half.

Caligula and cloud vision, thanks for the guidance. I feel like the Persei/Hercules and Cera my both be viable choices, and I'll end up with one of these. The choice is not clear cut, but at least I can focus my research at this point.

The hercules and persei together are almost twice the length of the cera, but lighter. They both hold a good amount, and taste great but both are capable of burning oil (at least the sr71 white rod and cera eo are) unless you perfect the technique.

Vaporenvy had some revolution darts/avas. (Pre cera) A couple months ago i might give them a call if i were you. Extremely pocketable, works on any 510 device

FWIW, the SR71 is no longer available. Its been replaced by the SR74 which is easier to operate and has less chance of user error (overheating the oil) due to a lower watt ceramic heating rod. Another bonus is that it increased battery life as well.

c76man hopefully i can join in your thread to learn. I am also looking to buy something portable for waxes.

I do not need it to hold 20+ hits, but that is ok if it does. Also do not mind if there is a learning curve.

With that in mind, would the people on this thread still recommend the HURC and Cera over the VP Dabbler or the Dr Dabber?

Also where do people buy online? I recently had very good luck buying direct from the manufacture for a different vape product. Of the products listed in this thread does anyone know the name of the actual manufactures? For example i bought the Got Vapes Sapphire cartridge direct from the Buddy Tech company who manufactures them. Thanks to this forum member Haywood had listed that info.

Killer man i will definitely be buying stuff from them!! Sent a quick email yesterday asking if i bought a pen, would it show up by Thursday? A guy wrote back in minutes saying YES, if i order in an hour he could get the product out that day.

Well.....my phone reception here sucks and i didnt get alerted to the email until 6pm, but his message was stamped at 2pm!!! While i was pissed at my phone, i was very impressed by the customer service. (and this forums knowledge/advice)

I need something for this weekend to get by. I bought some crumble to take camping. I remember the local smoke shop had a glass dome with a little tray inside. The lady said it was for wax. Any advice regarding that style? If it works decent...cool i will buy one. If they suck and are possibly constructed with unhealthy building materials then i will stay away. I have an adj voltage battery that im hoping will work with it.

Those globes aren't the best and typically use silica wicks with nichrome wires which aren't necessarily the healthiest things but probably still healthier than smoking. If you are just getting it for the weekend then throw it away afterwards I wouldn't be concerned. Your battery has an ego threading then it should work

What about something like an Essential Vaaapp?
I have not read much about it, but saw one in my LHS the other day.

It looks like it would meet your needs with regards to portability and capacity; I am curious what their customers have to say about this unit. I like how batteries are not required for on-the-go use.

Ok so dont waste money on a glass dome dealio.

Does the SR-74 work efficiently even with small amounts of wax? I mostly medicate alone these days or my girlfriend takes a super tiny rip. Although, out camping people hit me up. Thats mostly why i bought the wax is for this weekend. Packing bowls of flowers gets expensive. Half of the product goes up in the air while a person uses the pipe like a microphone.

do yourself a favor and get into building coils yourself and using them in rebuildable dripping atomizers. after having used omicron carts and getting tired of the clogging and overheating of oil i stopped using them. i then moved on to thermovape rev/darts and loved them. but they take too long to heat up so after getting a BHOLT atty i sold my TV stuff. well now that BHOLT has been outted as a less than honest MFG i am now going to start building RDAs. a little work involved, but it costs pennies to rebuild.

i would stay away from any device that allows you to load .5g and up. no sense in dropping a g of oil into a cart and have it heated up and cooled down many times. IMO the best portable oil devices are the "load as you go" type.

dabblers and dr. dabbers are great, but each coil is like $20 or something. fuck that nonsense.

RDAs are where its at IMO, but you have to be willing to make the coils yourself.

Building sounds fun. Im way into building crap.

How long does a $20 coil in a Dabbler last if the person is using it correctly?

Still havnt bought anything yet. If i order a hercules do i also just buy a Persei replacment 7.4v battery to power it? What are the battery options? Price does matter im not rich. Looking for value.

Load As You Go (LYAG) style carts like the Dabbler, Dabber, KISS carts, G Pens, etc. can last anywhere from a few hits to a few grams. It really depends on the quality of materials and quality of medication. Less pure stuff will kill those carts way faster than say... a highly refined solvantless or C02 oil. And on average, a G Pen heater will likely self destruct before a VB or W9 unit would. On the average (and I take care of my shit) ill get a month or so of hard use out of the better quality LYAG carts, and I only use high grade oils from MMJ collectives.

As for the Hercules, that thing will never burn out. In fact its got a year warranty on it. You'll never find heaters with a warranty, so that should tell you something. Everything in that piece is burly and made to last. The heater is a solid rod of ceramic (you cant burn it out). The medium (part that holds the concentrate) is 99% pure grade 2 titanium mesh (torch it clean if you want, it'll live). All of that is enclosed in stainless steel and PTFE (teflon). You can break it apart like a firearm and clean (or reclaim) every piece until its sparkling like new again, especially since it can all be soaked in iso without worry.

Did I mention it retains flavor like no wire coil heater ever could?

Anyway, I suggest reading the last 100 pages or so (sounds like a lot but it isnt) of the Persei thread. Should give you a LOT of info. Plus being active on that thread will be a great learning tool, seeing as how the inventor of the unit (THC Scientific) is always posting.

...oh and about the batteries. The ones that come with the Persei WILL power the Hercules however they will drain FAST. The "AW" branded 18350 batteries are the standard upgrade/replacement and will last quite a bit longer. Whats smart is to have 2 sets of batteries. That way you can charge one set while you use the other.

And yes, vaporwarehouse is a legit place to buy from... plus free shipping!

i havent. would love to try it, but im not really a big fan of D9/THC Sci/plantius... whatever they are calling themselves this month.

besides i think a $20 RDA + ceramic and wire still would cost less, be smaller, and have all the power i would ever need for cencentrates. IMO this is the best bang for the buck. no need for a warranty because there is basically nothing that could go wrong... other than the coil, but then i would just rebuild it.

how much are the Hercs btw?

I totally agree with 2clicker...RDA is the way to go.

I bought a Nemesis and IGO-W this week and it is great. So great actually that I have stopped using my torch and nail. Now I just leave the drip tip off and put the open end of the IGO into an 18mm GonG. Its not airtight but it doesn't need to be IME. Works beautifully...especially with a dual coil build. Basicially allows you to do 2 dabs at once which is fantastic for on the go when you're trying to be quick and discreet.

I have an Omicron/KISS cart as well and the difference between that and the Nemesis setup is night and day. Just so much more power/heat in the Nemesis. I also really like that I can just replace the coils once they get gunked and start taking longer to heat up. Takes minutes and costs pennies...much better than paying $20 per cart plus shipping.
