trying to get a grinder that works well with a pax 2. I have a chromium crusher, and a ten year old plastic grinder that came with a volcano. neither shred the flowers up very much. need something $50 or less.

what should I get? thanks.

The MFLB finishing grinder (retail at MFLB site is $39) creates the finest grind of anything I've tried. It's actually is a "finishing" grinder - you grind the herb using a reg grinder, then put it thru this little guy.

Any of those "grinder cards" would probably work the same way - like a cheese grater, it piratically powders the herb.

Yup, as @Solomon said, the MFLB Finishing Grinder seems to be the preferred method on this site for ultra fine grinds.

If you want something cheap, I have heard of a pill container and a heavy coin (nickle or quarter) can be used (shake repeatedly as necessary until the grind is as fine as desired)

I have heard of people accidentally turning their bud into powder with a coffee grinder. So that could work for you, if powder is what you're after. I've never tried it before though, and honestly, the idea of running bud through a coffee grinder has always kinda made me wince.

You're probably better off taking @Solomon or @Ratchett's advice, and go with the MFLB finishing grinder or the pill bottle and coin technique.

A $13.00 electric coffee grinder and a quick finger allows me to produce most any grind consistency I desire, however it has a much different aesthetic then my $35.00 SharpStone. Bottom line for me they both get the job done.

Hey now,

For fine grind, I just flip the grinder over and grind within the lid only. The drier the material starting out, the finer its gets. Use a small brush to loosen any kief stuck to the teeth, walls and floor of the lid. YMMV

I use a cheap acrylic grinder to break it all up to a Solo sized grind. I then take about half of what I've ground up and put it into a palm sized cheap metal strainer (looks like a baby spaghetti strainer) with very tiny metal mesh/screen and just use the tip of my index finger to rub it through the mesh. The result is pure powder for the MFLB. It doesn't get any easier or cheaper. Heck...it may even be too powdery.

I've used a coffee grinder a bunch of times and it's never been difficult to gather almost all of the pulverized herb. Having a drier herb is helpful, but a few solid taps and the coating usually falls to the bottom and is easily collected. Perhaps your grinder has a static charge which attracts the particles?

The credit card shredders are awesome and a considerably cheaper alternative to the MFLB finishing grinder but you're gonna get your fingers sticky :)

Does the Finishing Grinder really work that well? I usually do the upside down grinder trick, empty it and then use scissors until it's literally powder. I only use an MFLB and love love love a really fine grind.

I never got the FG because I didn't want to grind straight into my LB . Can you still empty it into a separate bowl?

EDIT: Does anyone use a mortar and pestle? That would be cool but I'd be afraid of losing some goodness to the porous stone or something.

Like using my mortar and pestel to achieve powder. Also allow your buds to become very dry. It makes this powdering process much easier. But, I would love to pick up a MFLB finishing grinder someday.

I used the grinder upside down process, then got a Nano grinder which produced finer herb. But I just got the Finishing grinder and the particles are very fine. This allows full extraction in my MFLB with 0.10gm good for two sessions of 3 ten second hits. That's all I need
