a new scientific finding that "will impact the search for extraterrestrial life,"

my first thought was this : "Sorry folks, turns out we are all alone."

anyhow, thanks for posting this...2 day drum roll indeed.

Yeah its very interesting, to me at least.

It could be something minor. I hope that isnt the case. If they feel the need to call a confrence about it I hope its worth it. I hope its not a ploy to gain funding for something.

if its what im thinking then only scientific minded folks will appreciate it the most, i dont think its going to be "we've spotted odd foot prints" or the like that one would expect from watching too many sci-fi movies.

i began my college major in physics and studied quite a bit on space sciences so its quite interesting to me as well. this past year i got my kids a telescope and they are now little star/planet gazers.

lots to learn beyond our pale blue dot.

And when, not if, but when life is found beyond our pale blue dot, one wonders what affect that is going to have on "some" of our organized religions, eh? A challenge to some of the religious dogma's should prove to not only be informative, but entertaining as well. Waiting in anticipation.......... :)

in sure the religious whip it out contest will continue when and after they discover life.

I agree, but it will definitely put a different spin on things and it will be interesting to see who spins what.

Want the truth about NASA and most space related things (not just NASA drivel) go to SpaceRef.com.

http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewnews.html?id=1476

SpaceWeather.com is also interesting but on a different level. Space Junk (NEOs) and Solar Flares and pretty cool space weather events like aurora distribution and lots of cool amatuer astro pictures submitted
http://spaceweather.com/

Another cool place to learn something new is at Caimbridge University's Astro History education site.

Of course these offer real science, and even some controversial viewpoints, not the standard press releases, nor some blog that talks about ET... Boogity, boogity, Booh !

Science isn't fun, unless you are a scientist, so it needs some Disney ! Dewy wins again !

I hate to be a skeptic but they're probably going to say: "We need another fix! It's not the heroin again this time, Uncle Sam. I swear I jest wanna study bible in da seminary."
PLEASE GIMME DA MONEY!!!! :uhoh:

The manned space program (and NASA) should've been retired in the era "Terms of Endearment" took place. :2c:

It would not surprise me if there is life in our enormous universe, but I doubt that the GOVT will every announce this. They hate proving themselves wrong (Ex. marijuana)

Agreed, it wouldnt be surprising. However, I dont think that we have enough technology to discover any other nearby lifeforms at this point, since space is so enormous. Even if we did, what do people think would happen?

There's a chance that eventually, we're going to have to leave this planet, Pappy.

Change the aim, change the name, change the game, I'm all for that!
NASA is the Groundhog Day of government bureaucracies. The unforgivable "$1 - O ring scandal" and the pathetic whitewash and coverup that followed should've been the last straw. We walked on the moon in the 60s. How about rethinking the mission instead reliving past glory already?

It may be about the widely rumoured recent invasion of NASA headquarters by ... ROBOT MONSTER.

I think it just proves that we know less about our own planet than we initially thought.
