Music from the 1950's through early 60's - The early days of Rock & Roll

There are a few songs that I'd like to point out from Up in Smoke with Cheech and Chong that fit the bill. None of them got any mention in the movie's soundtrack, but as a footnote in weed history let's go through a few.

We'll start with the most obvious.

"You mean we're smoking dog shit man?"

1957 - Rockin' Robin - Bobby Day

Near the beginning of movie, when Cheech first leaves the house, he's singing two songs in the car.

1959 - So Fine - The Fiestas

He also tries to hit the high notes at the end of
1957 - Could This Be Magic - The Dubs

1959 Barrett Strong, Money (that's what I want). Pre Motown but produced by Berry Gordy and released on UMG recordings. Still relevant today  Maybe I'm just thinking about this song cause I'm trying to sell some Pokemon cards on ebay

While Cheech was driving around, searching to score a lid, the radio DJ started playing a later version of this song. But here's the original.

1957 - Searchin' - The Coasters

Great choice @Bad Dog. This song reminds me of the bar scene from Animal House.

Thanks @Bad Dog! I figured after my last post, if Jackie Wilson can't get any hits here maybe this thread has worn out its welcome. But maybe we'll keep it going. Love Frankie Lymon too! Great pick!

How about the King of the Stroll today?

1958 - Hang Up My Rock and Roll Shoes - Chuck Willis

This 75 year-old man remembers life's odd sound tracks at a time when rock was pop and pop was an old man.
Life then was nonsensical and I remain non-musical now.
1958

1959

Also 1958, with some past then faces from the past
