Moon Rocks... Q&A

They go by several names, but I thought we could open up a discussion on these concentrate rich nuggets.

Do any of you vaporists have experience with these? I'd love to hear about it.

I wanted to give some a try but have a few questions before making the plunge...

  • How do you handle these? I am not going to put this gooeyness into my SantaCruizShredder, so how are you all breaking this up and loading without making a complete tar-baby mess out of everything?
  • I have zero interest in combustion, but also have reservations about putting this in certain vapes. Which vaporizers do you choose for such a task? I have ruled out my enano as I don't want my beautiful burl stems to get all gunked up... same goes with my minivap. I was thinking a Lotus cap and WPA might be a good option considering what I have to choose from.

  • What do others like/not like about moon rocks?
  • Are there good brands to look for or avoid in Denver/Boulder?

Is this something I should even pursue? I have a feeling most companies are not exactly going to be using top shelf flowers when it is going to be completely hidden...

I look forward to others thoughts, comments, and experience.

Moon Rocks or Cavier are fairly expensive I suggest making your own. Get some concentrate that's not too runny like wax or shatter then roll it in Kief or finely ground cannabis. I use it in my log vaporizers, Milaana or my EVO but not my new Solo 2 or my Grasshopper. I don't want to gunk them up. The Enano and the Woodscents gets hot enough and burns up any residue.

You can also get a small nugget and put concentrate oil on the outside then roll it in Kief.

You wouldn't put moon rocks in your grinder.

I figured there was good reason for there being little discussion on this topic over the years... thanks for the advice!

I really have never heard anyone rave about them, but there is an exotic appeal. I appreciate hearing other persons experiences.

They've always been overpriced IMO, I agree with making your own if thats what you want. I rather like working with the individual components and go from there.

They are a novelty item IMO. If you can get them for $15 a g or less I'd say try them for fun. I've combusted them and got good results. If I'm going to smoke (which I still do here and there) I'd rather puff on a moonrock. Taste is kinda hashy and the high is great.

I recently broke mine up by hand with a razor for my Flowerpot. They work, but are not ideal for vapes. Made a mess of my screen.

They are gimmicky but fun.

My buddy in denver likes these a lot, i think its because he's still afraid of doing straight concentrates but likes to dip his toe from time to time. IMO a waste of money, as many have said if this is your thing, its better to make your own with better materials.

Nectarbee from the various TGS around town has pretty consistent caviar and Peak MJ downtown has some of the best overall concentrate inventory, including some higher end caviars, that I've seen in denver......even if you have to pay downtown tax rate (rape)

Agreed. They never use any quality ingredients. Like Invert said above, nothing is top shelf. I have tried the Presidential Moon Rocks which is a brand name selling for like $75 an 8th and its not that great. I expected more. I actually like the no name brand moon rocks better.

When I did combust daily, I simply buy an 8th of Private Reserve shelf for $40 and get a gram of oil in a syringe for $40 and I forgo the kief aspect as i dont think it does much for you other than letting you handle the buds. I grind up the herb and put a few drops of oil on top. This was way cleaner than dealing with the moon rocks and i know whats i am smoking.

Moonrocks are most always mediocre, and best just used mixed into blunts and joints... so I hear... IMO :ninja:

I still don't quite understand how moonrocks work >.< are you supposed to roll them into joins or blunts or something? I don't see how you could vape something that gooey and shit in a Mighty or Pax or mv1 or some shit.. maybe an MV1 or firefly yo, I'd be afraid to toss in the the mighty. I could see bong rips being maaad effective though but fuck combustion right?

My oppinion here is that for us FC'ers it's a useless pointless product.

For people smoking it sure it's alright I guess.

I strongly believe you will always get better even vaping and flavor if you simply buy the separate components and make a stacked bowl with the most volatile ingredients on top, then it must be heated via your convection vape from the top.

Also a lot if not all of the moon rock type of products are made with cocentrate/wax/oil that was otherwise not going to sell because its of lower quality, then half of them add in XYZ terpenes to flavor it.

Just pass on them. I had some of the real deal, Kurupt's Moon Rocks and they smelled like perfume lol. Nothing about them is top shelf, not the flower, the wax, or the sift. If you want a real treat try some full melt dry sift or bubble hash instead.
Mmmmm good flavorful bubble hash is absolutely the best flavor and thick vapor moment you ever going to have

Or the hand rolled charras hash I got ones grown and made in Northern Europe was freaking amazing
