MMJ passes Supreme Court battle in FL

Rick Scott already said he would vote no. He also accused Morgan and Morgan of doing this a political stunt, just to get votes for Charlie Crist.

The problem is it takes 60%. We could probably pass a straight up vote. But once all the anti-cannibas rhetoric starts and the opposition money starts flowing in. It is going to take all our efforts to get a 60% passage.
60%...sigh. How did that happen? A simple majority would have had a good chance of passing, but 60% ? I hate to be pessimistic, but that's just not going to happen in Florida this time around. If a strong ground campaign works hard, a 60% vote MIGHT be possible in the 2016 elections.

Florida residents who wish to see the medical marijuana bill pass in Nov. If your not, please register to vote now. You must be registed at least 29 days prior to voting. That places the cut off date on Oct. 6th. If not registered by then you will not be allowed to vote. Just thought this info was important. Here's the link for those interested in downloading the pdf. to examine the initiative.

Has anyone else seen this. Interesting to say the very least.

Yes, I did! I bet Rick Scott veto's it, though. I can't stand that robot.

TALLAHASSEE --
Lawmakers are moving forward with plans to legalize one specific type of medical marijuana.

Voters will likely have the opportunity to vote on an amendment that would legalize medical marijuana in Florida in November, but Florida's Republican legislature could beat voters to the punch, at least when it comes to Charlotte's Web.

Charlotte's Web is the name given to a low-potency form of medical marijuana that has been shown to cure children who suffer from a life-threatening condition that causes severe and repeated seizures.

The Speaker of the House is now willing to allow that bill to make its way through the process, which means it has a pretty good chance of passing.

However, the bill could face a hurdle in Gov. Rick Scott, who has said he's "concerned" about legalizing medical marijuana in any form. Scott has the ability to veto any bill that's passed by the legislature.

I can see clearly now the smoke is gone...
I hope he vetoes it. For two reasons.

1. They have never been willing to even discuss weed laws before. This is just a last minute dash so they can say "hey, we already have MMJ. These guys just wanna get stoned".

2. If he vetoes it, it will reflect on his campaign helping his opponent.

Honestly, the way I see them trying to spin this is. The "Charlottes Web" law will pass. Then Scott will wait till after the election to veto it so they can use the "we have mmj" argument until after the election and he can veto at that point if he wins.

I agree with you. Deadhead. I think this is all just smoke and mirrors. A sleight of hand from the republicans to distract us. And to confuse the voters. I wouldn't be surprised if Scott fashioned this ploy with his campain advisors and other republican leaders.

ORLANDO, Fla. —

A local state representative has filed a bill to legalize medical marijuana before Florida residents have a chance to vote on the amendment in November.

On Monday, Rep. Joe Saunders of Orlando said announced legislation that would legalize pot for medical use.

"Everybody up here in the Legislature believes this amendment is going to pass," Saunders told WFTV.

He said polls consistently show the amendment could pass with 80 percent of the vote. That's why he's joining another lawmaker from south Florida and introducing a 170-page bill that would legalize medical marijuana and set up guidelines on how to regulate the use of cannabis as medicine.

"Who will have access to medical marijuana, how will we empower doctors, licensed physicians in the state to prescribe it? Where will it be grown? How much is ok to carry?" Saunders explained the issues adressed in his bill.

It also outlines licensing for farmers, distributors, dispenseries and patients. Some leaders in Cocoa Beach have already been looking at local ordinances to control where medical marijuana clinics could be built.

"If we don't do it this year then all of a sudden I think we're chasing the constitutional amendment," Saunders said.

He said his law would help Floridians with chronic health conditions, help to ensure public safety and save taxpayer dollars.

Skimmed a few pages. The constitutional amendment lists specific medical conditions, but also gives physicians leeway to determine if mmj would benefit their patients' "other" conditions. This bill lists more conditions than the amendment, but it does not allow physicians to prescribe for any conditions outside the listed ones. So you wouldn't be able to get mmj for anxiety etc.

What about chronic pain from Rheumatoid Disease or other Arthritic conditions?

It allows for "chronic debilitating pain" so that should be ok.

Ok good. My General Practitioner gives me Oxycodone right now for chronic pain, and I would hope that would qualify so I could get MMJ.

Can anyone provide a simple link to a copy of the amendment. I did a search and came up short.

THANX.
