I just found out that our dispensary has a new strain called AC/DC it is low THC (1.2%) high CBD (19.2%) which is great for testing. I can vape this all day long and function normally :-)
So this really helps in setting up the vapes, I have 7 units set and ready to go, I want to double check each one but really close now.
This strain is quite remarkable for general pain relief, all the little aches and pains go away. Very cool.
On the other extreme our dispensary now has concentrates, I got some oil (74% THC) but haven't tried it yet. I have some ideas for vaping oil but that will have to wait until this batch is out the door.
Also have some new glass stems coming for making shorty stems.

Found that it is possible to have an air leak around the cap of the heater chamber. That was causing problems both with temp setting and vapor production. I use a bit of furnace cement around the outer surface of the glass where the cap meets. There should be no air path contact of significance. The cement is filling a gap less than .01" (.025mm) and it is on the outer surface of the glass/inner surface of the SS cap. If anyone has concerns or questions let me know. I want to be totally transparent about the MistVape and I believe the cement to be of no concern to the end user.
With the air leak fixed I was able to set the temp and vape test 5 units today. Starting to fit units together tomorrow.
I tested each unit with AC/DC so I did 5 back to back sessions. The temp profile is set so at 0 you get flavor but no vapor, 1 a wispy bit of vapor, 2 definite vapor production but a bit light, 3 good medium clouds of vapor. These are with the herb very close to the upper edge of the SS nipple. You can fine tune the vapor production by adjusting the position of the cup screen.

the grey smudge (circled) shows how little cement is used. The air would have to flow into the tiny space between the SS and glass and then back out.

My $.02 here. I'm not touching a vape that uses furnace cemet on it. I have no clue of any other vape that uses it nor the actual safeness of it. This sounds unsafe and very very untested. Unless someone can show me where furnace cement has been tested extensively and the safety regulations on it, I'm wayyy out on this vape. Sorry, this has me concerned some.

thanks for the input, I only needed to seal two of the units and have kept accurate records of it. I'll be sure to indicate if a unit has been sealed or not. @Buildozer mentioned the use of furnace cement to me a while ago, maybe he can speak to other vapes that use it. Moving forward I hope to eliminate it altogether.
I guarantee that I will always be upfront about materials and construction of the MistVape. I posted about the cement to get reactions and see if there are concerns. Even one user having reservations will have me modifying what's needed to eliminate the cement moving forward.

I really appreciate the honesty and hope it catches on in this industry. People tend to avoid honesty like it's herpes in the vape and real world.

The $250 was my first red flag now the glue. This will be my last post on this vape as I will not be buying this. @$250 your vape does nothing better than anything I already possess in the desktop variety. This would never be considered a portable to me. Then add untested glue and forget it. I'm sure this is a decent vape but the chance it gets added to my collection is 0%.

Lower to a more reasonable price ($150-200), remove the glue, come up with a better MP and I'll take another look (not that my sale or opinions matter).

How could you claim this without used this vape?

If you think you already get the better, stop to look for another vape...that's all.

So this vape does something other than vape herb and/or concentrates? If it does, then it does something better than what I already own. See I keep looking for something that does something better or different than what I already own. @$250 it isn't worth spending to find out that this vape herbs and concentrates basically the same as any other desktop I own.

Even one user having reservations will have me modifying what's needed to eliminate the cement moving forward.

That statement right there @PPN is why I stated the @$250 comment. I figured I'd give the man my other opinions as well. Sorry if I ruffled your feather and said something you didn't like.

Now this will be my last comment on this vape unless I see some changes in it that might make me think otherwise.

I use top grade materials , ROHS compliant electronics, sustainable Quilted Maple from NW USA. That plus I'm buying in relatively small quantity makes materials cost significant. Time to manufacture is also significant, I'm doing the whole thing myself.
The MistVape will hold temp easily at +/- 5 degrees F and has a range up to at least 450F
The battery makes it portable but it certainly isn't competing with some of the nice pen vapes that are out there.
So the price tag is really fair in my opinion.
But thanks for looking and sharing your thoughts. Maybe down the road we can talk again.
enjoy

Yeah definitely good to share the reservations, and agreed no impure materials if possible is always preferred. I will say though that having one, and many other similar vapes as you say, I find the price here to be pretty justified given the market and performance, but especially with all the custom work being put into it...

Sorry but I don't understand you again....whatelse a vaporizer can do except to vape flowers and/or concentrates?

Do you want a BBQ option ? or a flashlight (but you already own the Appollo)? Or a doll option to don't feel alone during night?

Sorry if I ruffled your feather and said something you didn't like.

I don't like how you are able (sometimes) to support big chinese companies (who are selling industrial vaporizers using a ton of plastic and only thinking about $, I avoid to mention any name) and , in the same time, you are trying to kill the work of a guy who is just a vapor enthusiast (without even tried the vape...which is designed to vape!)... no it's not nice imo!

Yes I reserved one MistVape...price is similar to a logvape with a powerpack for portability and don't seems overpriced for me (it will depend how it works but the Paytonpenn videos convinced me) and yes i will prefer a unit without fumace cement if possible.

Edit Hi Smutman, feel free to don't reply here but don't hesitate to send me a pm, I like some of your posts....and i dislike others!

just for the record since the furnace cement thing caused angst with some I am pulling the units that used the cement. There is no MistVape that has furnace cement. I have to remake two heater caps but that isn't a huge deal. Now the mini prod run is down to 13, my lucky number. All thirteen have been test vaped and are working nicely. Assembly is in progress.

This is as exciting as watching the grass grow but I said I'd post a video to show the temp stability.
MistVape set at 1 running on AC
The first minute the unit is heating up then at about 1 min 8 sec air is pumped through the inlet continuously at 2 l/min
By 3 minutes the temp is stable.
A little past the 3 minute mark the air is shut off and the temp drops.

All the units from the mini run are complete, I've shipped some and have some left. I have a couple with minor cosmetic flaws that I will let go for a discount. Let me know if you are interested

here is the new shorty stem
otUnAP1.jpg

it is an 11 mm od glass stem with high temperature silicone tubing which holds it in the MistVape and keeps it in the wood mouthpiece.
I have shipped one to each tester.

Looks nice and sounds cool! Can't wait to try it out in that case!
Ad congratulations on getting so many models made and shipped, looking forward to more people in here with current models to compare perspectives and experiences

here is what a complete MistVape kit looks like
BlfXHKy.jpg

It includes the MistVape, a charger, a battery pack, USB connector and plug in, AC adapter, gong stem, shorty stem, push sticks and cup screens. This only applies to the current batch of MistVapes, the shorty stem may be an accessory down the road.

Ohhhh so much to catch up on. The airier solo charger can have the progns moved to work in Australia, where as others require a converter, and I'm not smart enough to know why... Anyone know what the go with this would be?

The AC adapter and USB plug in are both 120/240 V but you need the appropriate plug in adapter for your location. The MistVape has been used in Germany and soon we will get some feedback from France.
As I understand it if a device is rated for 120/240 V all you need is a plug adapter to use it. But if it is only rated 120 V you need a special converter to run it on 240V.

Mmmm, in that case the plugs might turn Either way a simple plug converter always kept on the end wouldn't be the biggest hassle.
