So I just watched an MV instructional video and I have a question.

The way I've been using my MV is that I fill a shallow basket with herb and insert it into the flexicone which also has the screen inserted.

In the video, however, the user filled the basket and then just slid the basket into the bowl rather than inserting it into the flexicone. Done in this way, the bud is closer to the heating element.

Has anyone compared these two methods?

(hope I made myself clear on the above)

The vid I'm talking about is here.....

He is using the solid Teflon cone instead on the Flexicone.
He shows it being cleaned later on in the video.

I prefer the Flexicone to the solid cone though...May be time to try it again.

like LL said, he's using the solid teflon cone instead of the silicone flexible Flexicone.

I get the feeling he was loading herb directly into the chamber as the walls were very dirty/stained.
Using the flexicone with a wire basket, my chamber looks like new. He talked about cleaning once a week but I clean about once a month and it really doesn't need it! He mentioned the wire basket for "pollen", is that a reference to hash?? Anyhow, I find using the wire basket to be 100X better than loading into chamber.

I find little to no use for the hard teflon cone--- the small plastic mouthpiece snaps more firmly into it but rarely use that combo!

I also found his chart for battery usage times to be super optimistic. 3 hours on red---no way Jose
5 hours on lower temps- ditto. mV battery probably lasts longer than any other portable but not like his chart says.
Note-- I might approach his battery time figure when I heat mV up to temp with the AC adapter, then snap in battery, then wander and enjoy. IMO, it takes way more juice to warm from room temp (approx 75 F) to 375/395/410/435 F than it does to keep it at the set temp. Battery really lasts a long time!!

Those specs are stated for "continuous" operation. When I questioned Jorge on this he said that it takes about 10 to 15% of battery power just to heat up to temp at green before any hits are taken.

My own personal experience is that with a full charge, I can have 4 separate sessions heating up to green from a cold start(3 long hits per session) before the battery indicator turns red.

I haven't yet tested how many sessions I can get on red before it shuts down, but I do know that the weaker the battery charge is, the longer it takes to get up to temp.

Sorry.. I was actually looking for confirmation this is an odd placement for there to only be the large Teflon ring in place?

Well I don't have the short one under the screens in the above pic picture. It's large Teflon, normal screen + fine screen(as in sitting on the metal heatery bit) I can't press it down anymore than shown. Of course adding the extra length of the small Teflon ring makes the larger one jut out an equal distance.
Anyone else got this. It works great I might add.

Mine fit as they should.
Heater core
Fine mesh
Regular mesh
Small Stainless Steel ring
Regular mesh
Large Teflon ring

I would imagine yours would be hotter than a regular model due to the shorter distance.
Looks like a large basket would pretty much sit on the heater core, maybe even a bit of conduction going on there.

I wonder if whoever assembled it pushed the heater core up too far?
Found only one ring would fit?
Quality control?

I mentioned it in an email to Hermes and eventually got a reply.
Alfredo advised me to wait until the unit had heated to red for 15 mins.. Insert the usual standard set up of rings and push down.. I knew I wouldn’t work.so didn't even bother.
It works so meh.. Just that it put that out there.

But I like it!
This is intersting info - I looked at mine and it sticks up just the weeniest bit, as well. I've never taken it apart, but will. I read @stickstones instruction on removing bits just after I turned it on to heat up...

Oddly enough I can seem to almost finish a load on blue and blurple now. I only seem to get action on green and red if I start there, but it seem capable of extracting most everything on the lower settings. I can finish a load on red with a couple of good pulls through water if I start there...

Here is the placement sans screens and Large Teflon ring.
Comparison picture anyone?

I know I'm quoting myself here.. Realised this wording was crazily misleading.
When I said it works so meh.. I meant.the device functions well even with the odd 'only large ring' setup..
Not that Alfredos advice works.

Whoops.. Double post.. Sorry mods.

@Kommyknocker I would give it a shot. I don't yet know how they assemble these things, but it wouldn't surprise me if the instructions you got are how they seat the bowl to begin with. You probably have a little extra room at the bottom of the unit that it can press down into. Maybe the installer only pushed it in a little and didn't push it in enough for the short ring. But I imagine it would effect performance slightly, as the heat source is moved away from your load by a mm or two.

I'll admit I did give it a cursory try but didn't push down overly hard.
Guess I'll try again with increased pressure. Still dubious it'll work though.
As I said.. MV us functioning just fine as is.

Yeah that the one..

well, the other side of the coin is if it ain't broke...
Kinda was my thinking since I got it back.. Thing is I mentioned it to you guys then but kinda got told the larger ring stuck out a little. I thought mine was weird.
I tried Alfredos advice but to no avail.. I pressed hard enough to feel comfortable I wasn't gonna bust the thing.. Which may be just the kind of pressure required to reseat the heater thingy.
This is my SS ring above the standard small Teflon ring.. See how high it pokes up. Works this way too.. Though since getting my core back my SS ring is so loose so as to fall out inverted.

I am pretty sure it should not stick out like that. Is there any reason you are using the small teflon ring instead of the small SS ring?

My SS ring falls out too. I must admit that I have reverted to the teflon rings.

No reason at all.. Just to show how much it pokes out with.the standard sized setup. I usually only have the large Teflon ring inserted.
I suppose I actually have an extra option since I can get my material super close to the heater for that direct chamber fill sorta hit.. Only with a basket.. Or change it up in the normal 'pokey up' setup and get the usual Mv function(distance from heater)

Update on battery life. Continuing on from the 4 separate sessions (3 long hits per session) before the indicator turns red, on red, I just got another 2 full sessions (again, 3 long hits per session), so..........that's a total of 18 long hits along with having it heat up 6 times from a cold start to either green or red, and, there's still some charge left. I don't know how much, but I'll see how much more I can squeeze out of it tomorrow.

All things considered, in my opinion, that's some healthy battery life there, eh?

I always intended to do this test.. I take it you used a pen and paper to record your findings? As opposed to memory!
I Always ended up too toasted to remember wtf I was meaning to do.
