Do most off mj users lose weight or gain weight. Most likely it depends on the parson. Seldom i get the munchies and if i do i try to resist, as a result i am losing weight. Anyone have some more experience with this?

Losing weight with MJ will depend on a lot of things!

I have been slowly and steadily losing weight ever since I started medicating about a year and a half ago - here are some of my experiences relevant to marijuana and weight loss:

- I have never experienced "the munchies". I do enjoy flavors of things much much more, however I don't feel compelled to snack because of MJ. I may develop a craving, however I can have a bite of something for the flavor and be done. This is really significant because before MJ, I was a fiendish snacker - see below.
- I'm fortunate to be able to medicate any time of day I like. I'm not always high, but I do tend to keep my solo handy. The primary reason I started medicating in 2012 was to seek relief for my ADHD, to help me focus on work. The MJ helped me in one really big way that I didn't anticipate: it took the place of my ADHD default fidget action of eating. (A common trait among people with ADHD is they have some sort of "fidget" that they default to unconsciously - for some it's tapping fingers on the table or bouncing a leg on the floor, for me it was keeping my fingers and mouth busy by snacking constantly. Yeah, not good for the weight!) Anyway - sipping on my solo took the place of my eating fidget, which was a huge bonus for weight loss.
- Because of my pre-MJ habits, the weight was getting up there - and so was my general body pain. The pain relief aspects of MJ have made it a lot easier for me to move around and be more active.
- Improved mood - the most important thing. When you're happier, everything is easier.

Marijuana generally helps the appetite. It's one of the most basic, widely accepted benefits, so statistically, you're more likely to gain weight than lose, but people are different, especially when there's no health issue robbing your appetite. While the munchies may nag you to consume more calories, there's no reason you can't control the urge.

And that's important. Being stationary for long periods, whether sitting or lying, is bad for your health, and just getting up frequently and moving around may be more beneficial than sitting on your ass for most of the day and doing vigorous exercise for a short period of time.

I am convinced that switching from combustion to vaporizing has had a pronounced positive effect on my metabolism and has caused me to get leaner. I was already eating very nutritionally and exercising, but after stopping combustion, I noticed that I started to just lose weight without doing anything else differently, in fact, this was happening while I was getting lazy and doing less exercise.

I suspect that this is a combination of eliminating all the bad stuff from combustion and greatly increasing the intake of mediciinal content from the herb. It's possible that this also somehow accelerates all the other good habits I have (matcha tea every day, 72% dark chocolate daily, lots of veggies, etc.) similar to how a balanced diet provides combinatorial benefits.

I find myself hungrier throughout the day much more than prior to this change (not sure if this is munchies or metabolic), so I am snacking a bit more, but it has not caused any weight gain at all. I find myself craving protein more (beef jerky! peanut butter! NO, not together, silly). I lost a number of inches around my waste but not tons of pounds, so I know that my body has gotten a bit leaner and bodyfat % has decreased.

I find it difficult to believe such large noticeable changes was just a coincidence from switching my cannabis consumption method and not a direct effect. And I also now believe that Cannabis is meant for the body like vitamins, nutrients, minerals, proteins, etc...the chemistry of it makes sense to me although I am not a scientist.

You are not alone, I experienced this same thing. I went from smoking blunts to just vaping herb and I was expecting the opposite effect after cutting the tobacco. For me, it was just one more reason to buy more vapes and never smoke again.

Lost 40lbs in a year. Have changed nothing except for eating more and exercising more.

Before MMJ, was impacted by daily vertigo and unable to eat or exercise worth a darn, but due to almost complete inactivity was gaining weight. Then MMJ relieved vertigo allowing normal eating, then increased eating, and exercise/activity.

Well done with the weight loss.

Yes, I've been slowly dropping weight. Not a huge amount, but it's been generally been trending down for the past year.

Calming, energizing, pain relief, and being able to sleep all contribute to better health, I'm sure.

Cannabis helps me gain and maintain weight as well. Makes me hungry, eliminates stomach pain, no nausea. Like FlyingLow said.

I get the munchies pretty much every time I consume, almost any strain. I'd say I eat at least twice as much in a day with cannabis than without. I eat healthier too most of time.

I used to get the munchies but over the years I have learnt to ignore them and they shuffle off after a few minutes of ignoring imo

The only exemption for me is nausea and/or loss of appetite it cures the nausea and then I'll eat if I've not eaten.

Drink water while vaping may help

some strains of MJ definitely stimulates my appetite, especially since I'm an anxious person who cant tolerate high THC strains. Having a card in OC, Im surrounded with the best OG indicas but still too powerful for me haha. Harlequin (crazy high cbd) on the other hand has me eating as if im a death row inmate having his last meal. It's the like the first time smoking weed and having the munchies.

Not to be a downer, but it's unwise to assume that mj has a noticeable effect on everything. You will drive yourself crazy when trying to apply causality to things that are to a large extent neural. Do more expensive sneakers help with (or cause) weight loss? If you think that they do, they probably will in an indirect way. You can even find data that "proves" this to be true. But look at the context of the situation, and you'll see that the assertion is just ridiculous.

if you smoke weed your going to get fat as fuck, duh.

So what's with all the skinny stoners walkin' around, eh? DUH !!!

That's kinda like sayin' that if you smoke weed, you're gonna come into a forum and make some dumbass comment. But hey, I make dumbass comments all time, so I guess it must be true. ;)

Interesting article though regarding this:
"Three prior studies have shown that marijuana users are less likely to be obese, have a lower risk for diabetes and have lower body-mass-index measurements. And these trends occurred despite the fact that they seemed to take in more calories.http://www.cnn.com/2013/05/23/health/time-marijuana-diabetes/index.html

The endocannbinoid system in our body is responsible for many important functions including influencing weight loss and gain. Cannabis also stimulates the CB1 receptor which appears to influence weight loss in some situations. From what I have read and seen, large doses of cannabinoids encourage our bodies endocannabinoid system towards homeostasis giving cannabis the ability to help with weight loss and/or gain. Yeah, kinda an ignorant statement there.
If the question is "can smoking cause weight loss?" the answer, like so many other of life's questions is:

"It depends."
There are so many variables and outside factors other than the act of smoking, it is practically impossible to prove. I would dare say that it would only be logical to assume under the right set of conditions, smoking can promote weight loss.

Please don't refer to another member's statement as ignorant. You can correct a mistaken statement without being rude about it.

@FlyingLow An ignorant statement?? You are an idiot. My statement was a FACT.

I would agree with flyinglow it was kinda an ignorant statement, thats a fact.
