Making QWISO for the first time tonight... am i forgetting anything??

no king i did not yet. here's the situation and why i haven't.... i did this at my brother in laws house cause he works from home during the day when we thought the evap would actually be done. we started at 10:00pm and figured the evap would take anywhere between 12 to 18 hours for the 1/4 inch of liquid that was in the pan. so i went home for the night. in the morning at 7:00am (about 9 hours later) i got a text from him and he stated "Epic fail, totally dried up" i texted back really?? all that liquid evaped that fast?? i really didn't think that amount would evap that fast. and he texted back "totally dry, there is just dried cake crust to scrape" now that was the first clue that there MIGHT be something on the pan. i then asked him to hold it up to the light like suggested earlier in this thread, and he said he could see something in the pan but it was clear and i would probably get dried crumbs. so that was clue number two. so i asked him to save the pan and i would be willing to scrape the pan to see if i get anything at all and if i did be the guinea pig and and put it in my bong and "test it" now here's the crappy part... i asked him if i could get the pan tonight after the kids go to bed and he said he was busy tonight and i might not be able to get a crack at scraping the pan till next week

so now i sit in limbo wondering did something actually go wrong?? the videos i saw the end product had some color to it. he is telling me this is "clear" and totally dry. there is no tackyness to it either. i am guessing it's not supposed to be clear right?? so i have no idea at all what to think.

You're fine...that "crust" is your oil. You probably just didn't get much...so the thin layer is difficult to see, but it's there.

i hope you are right... hopefully i will get that pan from him soon so i can either make myself feel better or confirm the epic fail

I would be willing to bet your pan will be "clean" by the time you get it back. Any residual
would retain at least a slight value, even with the poorest quality herb. Your rinse times
should have been sufficient to strip the goodness. Have you heard from your brother-in-law?????

so i appears my QWISO experiment is a failure or i just messed it up. i scraped the oil from my pan into my omicron fill tool. i put the tool on my new omicron 2.4 cart and used a lighter to gently heat the cart and the fill tool. i watched the oil turn slightly runny and ooze into the omicron cart. i continued to gently apply the heat up and down on the cart to get the oil to run to the bottom. i then pulled out my EGO-C and unscrewed my atty base and cone and put on the 510 to 601 thread adapter and attached the omicron cart and mouthpiece. i then tried to prime by pulling on the mouthpiece while engaging the battery. no go... nothing at all. i gently pulled on this thing for a good while and nothing. the cart was very warm to almost hot to touch but no vapor. i then put my EGO-C into unregulated voltage mode which bumps it up to 4.1v and gently pulled again for another 10 minutes or so and still no vapor although the cart was very warm. i pulled off the mouthpiece and i think i could smell the QWISO hash smell but no vapor. so now i have this new omicron cart with my QWISO in it and i can't do anything with it.

i am a pretty smart guy. i work in computers for a living and follow guides pretty well... that being said i just have no idea why all my concentrate experiments keep failing. i want to know what all these concentrates do and taste like but not sure i know what to do. i don't live in an MMJ state and i am guess it will be years before NY changes. i can't move cause of my situation so thats out as well. i am so green with jealousy of all the reading i am doing here with people enjoying concentrates and i want to try it to. but right now i feel like i wasted so much money (EGO, Adapters, Carts, supplies to make oil, etc). i know i didn't buy an omicron, cause i did not want to drop too much money cause i knew i wouldn't be able to buy concentrates (i also bought the ego cause my brother in law gets these pre filled hash oil tanks but they are frustrating too and hard to get working reliably). i am not willing to spend any more money on this experiment anymore.

so sorry for all the ranting, just needed to get it off my chest. i guess in my world, flowers is all i will ever be able get and enjoy. i do enjoy them, dont get me wrong... i just wanted to have some variety. just wish there was a way i could use this EGO-C to vape flowers now... since it seems i may not use this thing much anymore and i would like to get some use out of it

Well from what I am reading, your experiment wasn't a failure at all. You applied heat to the fill tool and your product turned runny (which indicates it was oil) and it went into the cart. This means success as you did accomplish making hash oil.

Where you probably went wrong is how much oil you added to the cart. Omicron carts require AT LEAST a half a gram of oil to get them going the first time. It takes .2 grams just to saturate the wicks. That means the first half gram(.5) you put in, you will only be able to vape .3 of it.
So if you didn't put at least a half gram into it you won't get any vapor.

Thank you so much for offering a light at the end of the tunnel!!! you are probably close to 100% right about the amount. it is my honest belief that there was no way i put .5 in the fill tool. i did not weight it, sure, but it wasn't that much. so maybe it was just the amount like you stated. are there any carts out there that WILL work with less .5 in the cart?? iam sure when i try this again it will be a small amount again as well

The thermovape revolution comes in a low voltage model (to work on 3.7v devices) and has 510 thread so it will work on the EGO. It is a load as you go type of thing, and holds up to .1-.2 at a time (so it works with small amounts). You just put your oil on the ceramic disc inside the cart, close it up, and turn it on. Most people get around 10 hits from .1 loaded into it. Comes in a side load version and top load.

The hard part is that thermovape is just now rolling out their new product line and the only way to order any of the past line is to email them, or call, directly and order. If you are wanting to order from them I would go with the Revolution Dart Low Voltage. It is the top load and uses a built in dabber to load. Runs somewhere around 49.99 for the cart and top if they still have it.

Edit: Of course you could always just load on top of some bud and smoke that way.
The more times you make QWISO, the easier it gets and the better your yields can get.

I always suggest to freeze your material in the glass jar and ISO separately for at least a few hours before extraction. It makes for a much better end product for sure. I also would have done a second run by throwing the material back into the jar and adding more ISO (do this immediately after the first extraction is done straining) Then you can filter both runs separately and evaporate for two different qualities of oil.

i will be using a fan over the plate. will that help the evaporation process more quickly?? i also read about making a "double boiler" and using hot water that is changed out often to aid in the process as well but i don't think i can do that so a fan will be what we are using.

i only asked about the consistency thing because i have watched ALOT of youtube videos lately and while most end products do come out like you stated "Thick and oily" one guys i watched, his end product was hard to almost "rock" like consistency and he showed himself "breaking" off pieces of it. so i was thinking maybe it was possible to "over dry" it???

he probably cooked off the alc and let it go a bit longer

Thermovape is selling it's DART 3.7 LV on it's site again. that has 510 threading and will thread onto the EGO without an adapter correct?? also... will the dart work with wax as well as oil???

I am not sure on that menz I would check in the TV ultra thread, but tbh I am thinking about getting one too fwiw tv has a video where they show him putting it on an ego-t ..... I would think your fine. The wax loads close to the element and should liquify in the first second or two I would guess.

Yes it will work just fine. The 10 sec cutoff is a bit of a pain in the ass but you just have to get used to letting off the button at around 8 seconds or so and immediately pressing it again, this gets around the cutoff. You will get the hang of it, just takes some practicing.

1.9g of Sour Diesel. Ground up with my 2 piece Space Case, thrown in the mini fridge's freezer compartment for 10 minutes. Added approximately 50ml of 91% ISO alcohol and shook for 17 seconds before pouring out and placing a wired computer fan to help speed up evaporation. The 50ml's of ISO ended up 1/2 filling up the container I was using, with the SD taking up the bottom 1/4 of it. 5 hours later it was around 95% crusty dry, so I did a 15 minute hot water purge with the fan on. Scraped this up, yielded right around .4g. My scale is a .1 incremental, and it was bouncing between .3 and .4 before finally settling on the latter. Immediately after, I did a 30 second, secondary wash. Yields were much lower there, probably .1 at most which I vaped first to great effect. This stuff is awesome in its own way. I could probably stand to clean it up more but it's all good. It was more or less one of those "I wonder wtf would happen if I tried this... hmm..." I'm also pretty sure a far nug of the Girl Scout Cookies I have contributed around .7 of the beginning flower material... dunno, sampled the goodies before I decided to make this stuff. In any case, I'm definitely going to be getting more into concentrates, especially now that I have my DART! Came in the mail today but I never got an email about it shipping so I was feeling sad. I was really happy to spot the huge envelope at the bottom of the pile of today's mail. Definitely a neat little piece, although I have a feeling that it will be much better suited for the higher end waxes and oily oils.
