Can you swallow glycerin? Why did you spit it out?

I wonder how much stronger it would have been with lecithin if you used it? I bet you can use a little less herb since it is suppose to absorb better. I was going to make an everclear tincture but now I am thinking if it is that strong with glycerin why not and then if I wanted to vape it I can. I would just need the correct type of vaporizer I suppose. I really need to do this soon as vaping is not working very well. I must have shot my tolerance up really high and I can't do a t-break. I just don't like the couch lock and when I vape I don't get that. I need to function not sleep for two days. I don't like being tired. I much prefer a head high with body overtones for body issues but not to get tired or hungry which are both bad for me.

I read that lecithin should never be used in any tincture you plan to vape so I didn't use it. The fact that I can also take the tincture by mouth is just a cool bonus for me.

I did buy some lecithin to use when I make butter in the future with fresh herbs though.

You can definitely swallow glycerin. I spit it out because I got scared after I put a half dropper-full under my tongue (the 2oz amber bottles have big droppers lol) and I remembered that I read here: "You may wish to spit out the glycerin after it’s been under your tongue – swallowing will cause it to be absorbed later in your stomach – possibly enhancing the effects." I then had a flashback to my Samuel L Jackson cannabutter incident, so I punked out and spit.

Today I did a couple drops (not droppers) and I swallowed. (That's what she said)

Did the glycerin separate from the water, or is it a consistent solution? If the latter, why did you mix with the water? Thanks for posting your report.

It's a consistent solution with no separation. I added the water based on the recipe given HERE (scroll down to comment #16) on the Magical Butter website.

I know I asked this, I forgot, but the negative of glycerin is not as good extraction as alcohol, is that correct.

I just won one on ebay and have about 1/2 o of topshelf shake and probably about a O of abv. I was thinking of making tincture first, how does this work in the vape pens compared to wax?? I use wax and thicker concentrates everday and just wondering if I should make like butter/oil before I use all my goodies for tincture.

saucybx, I know nothing about glycerin but think I am going to do that. I am a bit mad about the amount I have to use because I would rather make a bunch of small batches to have different strains but oh well. Anyhow my question is there are three brands in gallon jugs on amazon, what are the differences? What does pure mean? Now says 100% and the other two say 99 and 97 I think so what else could be in it and does it matter for half the price?

What I understand is that glycerin doesn't extract as thoroughly as alcohol, especially 190 proof. Also that it comes on a little faster, but doesn't last quite as long as alcohol tincture (in regards to the effect when taken into the stomach, not the shelf-life in which case I'm sure alcohol would also last longer). I believe the first point, but will have to test for myself the second point, i.e. the effect - that sounds a little more YMMV.

If you're into butter (probably other oils too), then try the water + butter trick that Tweek mentioned. That sounds like a way to use half the herb amount suggested (maybe even only a quarter) and still wind up with full strength butter after you separate it from the water.

I am going to make butter but that wasn't the issue. I want a tincture because you can use it anywhere anytime and it works fast from what I understand. Well at least faster then eating it. Thanks for looking out satyrday.

Butter you have to cook with and that will put me to sleep and I don't like that anyhow cept sometimes so tincture is first for sure. I am gonna work it out and do it. I am so slow sometimes

With the MB2 you have to select the temp AND press the butter or oil buttons. The manual recommends using 160 (the lowest setting) as the temp for fresh herb and for butter making. It does not specify for oil but since it works so well for butter at 160 I have to assume one would use the same temp for oil. I have not made oil yet but 160 definitely works great with butter!

Well I looked at my machine and the buttons have a temp, number and a word. So maybe they wrote it wrong. I think number 1 was butter and 2 is oil...it is integrated with the temp even though it still says it. I very possibly can be confused but it looks straight forward to me. If you need me to look I will write it down next time I am in the kitchen. I think 1 was 2 hours and 2 was 4 hours IIRC. I think it was MB original that you had to pick the temp or whatever.

MB1 you did not have to select a temperature but with the MB2 you have to

My mistake, I just looked and I didn't see that other temp button. I thought it was integrated with the time selection.

Using alcohol in the MB2 is at your own risk - could be a fire hazard. That said, I'll make it more dangerous and say get the highest proof alcohol you can find - 151 or 90 proof for better extraction.

The problem is you can't get to the min line without using sufficient herb or you're just going to dilute your tincture with a lot of extra alcohol, or worse, water it down and make the extraction less effective (would certainly defeat my suggestion of using higher proof).

If dealing with a small quantity of herb, maybe try Tweek's butter and water method and separate the water later leaving the active butter (can't separate water from alcohol easily without losing the alcohol, which is your preservative). Or if you really want a tincture, you could try vegetable glycerin like saucybx above. Glycerin tincture is safer to prepare than alcohol, and even if dilute and requiring more to drink, at least you won't have to drink a bunch of extra alcohol.

abv and stems worked with water & coconut oil, mixed it into some organic brownie cupcakes

wild dagga & calea z. coco-oil in progress. this thing does release odors, my whole room and hallway smell like shrimp scampi from these ethnobotanicals lol

i wish there was a mini version of this thing so i can make batches with only a quarter ounce instead of an ounce. but i guess I can reduce the amount of herb i use by throwing in some other lighter herbs to compensate. anyone have any input on methods to do smaller oil batches with this thing?

made the tincture, just like saucybx...

Came out great.... I had to strain it like 8 times though, so pour SLOWLY.

I used same recipe 2 1/2 cups VG, 1 cup bottled water, 30 grams APV, but I let mine tincture for 5 hrs instead of the preset 4 hrs

I put some in my E CIG and it tastes like "liquid smoke".... love it

I took a teaspoon on empty stomach, holding it under tongue for about a min and swallowed. Effects are noticed in about 15 min. I'll report back on duration, but as of right now about 45 min in, I don't have a need to medicate as it is doing its Job!

Why did you have to strain so much? I need to get my lazy self to do this. I am so bad. I could have really used tincture the last few days. Also if you are using all that vg why do you have to use water? I have never even seen vg so I am not familiar with its properties.
