MadHeaters Shipping Thread

The reality for me is that I have to stomach the idea this is possibly a $500-600 device all in. No idea how long this tariff nonsense will continue and if it manages to keep in place semi long term it's going to be a similar cost to the main release with the aluminum heat shield.

I hope it works out in a more reasonable way but @Brenyo I want the device enough I hope you give stateside purchasers the option to move forward before you process refunds 🤞

I honestly am probably willing to pay that much for it too. In general I'm an extremely frugal person and I probably invest too much anyway. Every once in a while I should enjoy a bit of my money otherwise what's even the point of saving it up? Considering that I'm a tit whisker away from quitting combustion all together, I don't even feel bad about paying that much because it's probably improve my health a little

i am no lawyer, but i am sure thats legally possible. BUT you would also have to legally pay all the tariffs once you get back to the US with a backpack full of tempests and if i understand that fact sheet right, that someone else linked earlier, you would have to pay even more:
What if they’re all for personal use? I’ll take a hit with each one then ship it It’s genius.

Yeah I also hope they give us the option to move forward, I wouldn’t want to miss out on this even if there’s an additional cost

It may not just be the tariff's themselves that cause problems with shipping to the US. For example, in the UK UPS announced it was not going to be sending any more US deliveries above the de minimis limit due to the confusion with just trying to work out the paper work and payments with everything changing so fast.
e.g. UPS have just announced they will now be shipping again, but it required a sit-down with the Whitehouse to work a deal. How this will be in a months time, who the hell can say? Hopefully though the shippers involved will have sorted something out by then as US businesses as well as consumers will be suffering badly for it and that seems to be something gets a response with u-turns etc.

The NYT reported the following today in an article about Shein, Temu, and de minimis that was last updated a half hour ago:

A $10 T-Shirt Could Become a $24.50 T-Shirt as a Key Tariff Loophole Closes

Starting Friday, goods from China worth up to $800 will be subject to tariffs and more paperwork under new Trump administration rules.

The import charges can differ depending on how the goods are shipped. If they come on an express carrier like DHL or FedEx, the goods will be subject to tariffs as high as 145 percent, or $14.50 on a $10 T-shirt.

Shipments coming in through the Postal Service will face a tariff equivalent to 120 percent of the value of the goods, starting Friday, or a fee of $100 per package. The fee increases to $200 in June.
Edit: Executive Order dated April 9 confirms this, unless there's been a more recent update

This tariff stuff is really sad.

The good part of me hopes it is resolved before the preorders are shipped and everyone gets what they want with minimal fuss.

The evil part of me is hoping the tariffs continue, so that some of the preorders become available again!

Given that we are what we eat, or think, or vape, or something; instead of letting the evil thoughts win, I’d like to officially register my desire for one titanium heat shield.

So if you’re reading this in 2026 and your titanium heat shield is sitting unused… let me know, I have money and love for you.

Man.. I am SO pumped for this vape, but don't know if I can justify more than $100 extra for any tariff BS. Really hope it stays $25 per parcel!!

The worst part is not knowing for another month+.. If it's not coming, then I'd purchase a Simrell or Tornado instead, as soon as they're available. Whereas if the Tempest 2 does come thru, then I don't want any other devices.. But would REALLY hate to miss out on the next restock of Simrell/Tornado, only to be screwed by tariffs and not get Tempest either. Beyond frustrating.

At least I can proudly say I was NOT one of the Americans who voted for this mess!

From what is being said, i think Brenyo got our point. I doubt he will just refund without an opportunity for some to move forward. This may be a null point, the tariffs change or pause almost weekly. Very good chance we will get our v2 without issue.

Let’s go back to our excitement if possible. I know it’s hard to, with a chance of things not going as expected. But also would hate to turn this thread into most of us stressing only. It’s something we can’t control but Madheaters has the best customer service in dhv industry. Really doubt they will let tariffs tarnish that without another plan in place.

[Is this off topic, or is it not? It's certainly relevant. 🤔]

Tariff's are a terrible policy that do nothing for anyone except the most wealthy and powerful. The U.S. plumped for income tax over tariff's just over a century ago to finance government and redistribute wealth toward the majority of American's instead of the wildly unfair distribution back then, thanks to the robber barons of that time. We are seeing the return of policies to promote those peoples already great fortunes at the expense of everyone else whom has less.

This isn't an attempt to police the thread. But I would sincerely find a seperate thread on the tariff issue to be helpful and interesting. It's something that is clearly going to affect our hobby, and the small creators within it.
Totally agree. See my last post. Its borderline hijacking the thread and the excitement. And great point, MH is not the only company facing this issue in the dhv community.

Mods, can we make a thread for US tariff concerns? This will be a long road and starting it now would be great.

Shoot man $100 sounds low at this point if 145% is the number everyone is throwing around in the news

There’s already one that’s pretty active:

Edit: also this one, but refers to the most recent batch of tariffs by the mango’s preferred name for them:

I apologize for continuing the tariff topic, but I would just like to add to the voices asking @Brenyo to please consider allowing US customers to pre-pay any tariff costs as necessary.

As someone who tried so hard to convince people to support the other political option, things like the release of the Tempest 2 are a ray of light in a dark and depressing time. It sounds a bit much, I know, but eh...

I will gladly cover any costs, and I'd even be happy to pay a fee for the service of estimating the tariff and allowing me to pay it.

Apologies again to all, I know this discussion must be annoying to those less directly affected.

I think one of the problems is that we don't even definitively know what the tariff will actually be to get it into the hands of US buyers. I'm sure @Brenyo has taken notice that many here in FC are willing to pay the tariff, but also consider we're in a forum specifically for fans of DHV, and even more specifically, the Tempest thread. That likely skews our perspective on how many people are actually willing to pay the potentially large tariff that may be added to the cost to get the T2 in our hands.

Regardless, expect this tariff bullshit to be a stickier mess than what the inside of my T2 will be after having it for a week.

I’m not set up to be able to accept pre-payments, so the tariff would need to be paid at customs.

I won’t cancel anyone’s order without prior notice. I currently plan to wait until next weekend to see if there’s any change or more clarity, then send out a newsletter with some options. DPD told me there’s no flat-rate tariff (??), and it’s approximately 152.5% overall.

If all goes well, I can start fulfilling a few orders on the UK site over the next week (non-US orders only). The EU store situation is a bit unclear and depends on customs, I expect shipping to start around the middle of the month. If there’s a change in the next few days, US orders will start shipping as well. All US orders could arrive before the end of this month if there is indeed a flat-rate tariff and it increases further from June.
