Low to medium level THC strains for milder smoke sessions?

Of course I know this is FC, but I’m sure theres a few of us that like a puff on a joint from time to time don’t we? ;)

Anyways, I’ve been thinking a little bit about the potency of strains, and as we know, the THC levels on many of the strains out there today are considerably high. Let’s say a new user or even a user with a low tolerance was to take 2-3 good hits off of a joint of some OG Kush? It’s reasonable to assume that they could get too high, possibly paranoid, anxious, and uncomfortable. Maybe even completely floored. I’ve experienced it myself many years ago and I’m sure many of you have too.
Completely understandable.

It is rumored that in the old days (60s-80s as a general statement), people used to smoke entire joints and they experienced a nice, relaxing, mellow high that didn’t completely fuck up their entire day or make them hear things that aren’t real. This sounds fascinating to me, because if I smoke an entire joint today, I go into a coma.

I’ve heard of low THC, high CBD strains like Harlequin, Cannatonic, and Euphoria, but I haven’t tried them yet myself.

What strains are there that you can ideally smoke an entire joint of and not be completely destroyed? Something mellow and satisfying.

And also, how would you guys feel if the weed market was more saturated with lower THC strains that were more tolerable and accessible to new users but also enjoyable for experienced users as well? What THC levels would be ideal?

There is a lot of weeds with low-medium THC content but I think dispensaries (I'm assuming you are in the States) are pulling out only the most potent strains and CBD strains but not so much in between...

I'm homegrower and I have high THC strains (I bought the seeds) and I have some unknow "local" strains with lower thc content. This one is the best for concentrates, not in term of yield but in term of taste, the high ratio of terps/thc are making the final product sappy enough to be used directly in a cart but a pia to collect. I think the weed industry is killing all this low/medium thc content strains cause they are more and more in the concentrates game... and they are looking for big yield only.

I feel the same way. I wish lower THC bud was readily available. Right now I'm lucky enough to have a 2:1 strain with 10% CBD and 6% THC. I usually mix it with high THC flower. When that runs out, if I can't find anything similar, I may try one of those mail order hemp flower companies.

I'm also interested in trying some CBD concentrates, but I haven't been able to find anything on dispensary menus around here. I've only seen the pre-filled cartridges, which I don't want.

One thing that helps me out a ton is taking some CBD tincture before I vape. It definitely moderates the strength of the high and has been a game changer for me.

Personally, i prefer as strong as possible - no Problem to just Vape very little amounts. One of the reasons i like concentrates...

I enjoy the low to medium strain THC mixed with higher amounts of CBD.

Right now I’m vaping shark shock as my go to. It’s a 3.84%THC and 8%CBD. Love the calming and relaxing affect from it while being able to fully function.

That's back when people were smoking sun grown landrace sativa's though, nearly impossible to find something like that today in a legal market.

If breeders were able to craft strains like Bruce banner on purpose, which has an INSANEELY HIGH level of THC, then I’m sure they’re capable of crossing something like sour diesel with a CBD plant to tone it down a little bit. Like I said before, it would be wonderful to enjoy an entire joint of quality bud and not be destroyed from it.

In theory I agree; I would like to see more strains with lower THC and higher percentages of other cannabinoids/terpenes, but in practice when I get something low in THC it tends to seem a little weak and disappointing rather than a more full and well rounded experience.

That may just be because they were going for high THC like most of the others and it just wasn’t grown well, or it may be because I’ve come to expect something like I usually get and when I unexpectedly get low THC (and still low CBD) I feel like I’m just getting less for my money, not something better.

On the other hand, I’m a medical user who’s not generally looking to get high (and not good at getting there), so if I adjusted my expectations and got lower THC but still good stuff it might be the best thing for me.

Right now I’m mixing high CBD flower or concentrates with high THC to get closer to what I think we’d both prefer, but I’d love to try some home-grown well rounded strains and see how they compare. :)
