You have the option of taking these suggestions as a starting point and doing some reading (looking at some youtube vids can also be very helpful) in the vape threads in order to figure out which models are going to suit you. Do you want/need a portable? If not, I would certainly get an AC model vs. messing with the extra hassle and expense of batteries or butane. If you do want a portable, do you want one that's pocket friendly and stealthy? If so you should look further than the Solo, which is half portable-half home unit. Do you think you'll want to use water filtration with a home vape? If so, some are more ready for glass than others. Speaking of glass, the Vapolution 2.0 Purity Package mentioned by stickstones provides an all glass vapor path (something very few can claim) and is one of the best values on the market.
Disagree, from my friends experiences and mine, I can tell you that first time vapers with high tolerance for THC much prefer a desktop vape. The solo just takes too much time to finish a bowl. Can they make due with the solo? Yes, but it will take them much more time to get high, and cause for a not so easy transition into vaping. If you have a lower tolerance the solo is sufficient. IMO
While I am not going to disagree with your assessment of going from combustion to vape in one fell swoop, specifically for one who may have a "high tolerance", I CAN tell you that my experience and that of my 'convert' friends did just that and never looked back - and that was with the Solo in every instance. Further, it has been our experience that a high tolerance level can be rather easily and quickly mitigated by either reducing consumption over time, or abstaining for a short period not usually longer than a few days. I would hope that all here who imbibe the good herb need not be so dependent that a few days away or a little less causes any discomfort. Further, among my friends are those who do both alternately, and report that not only do they get maximum effect from the Solo, but with greater appreciation for feeling less foggy! No one ever complained that it took a minute or so to get there! They all loved the function & form factor of the Solo. Each now has one of their own and LOVE it! Accordingly, I maintain that the Solo is perfect for home or away, with excellent effect!
Oh, I did it with the solo as well. Like I said it can be done, its just that when you first switch from smoking you're looking for something to get you high quickly because that's how combustion is. Its just that the desktop would be a bit of a smoother transition for someone with a high tolerance. I used to smoke almost an 1/8th everyday. started out with the mflb which took me like an hour to get high, solo achieves it in like 24 minutes (2 sessions for me). E-nano? 5 minutes.
Adding to your point and mine, for the OP, whichever the choice, it will likely not be the last - as once one discovers the subtleties and beauty of vaping, one will probably build a small arsenal of favorites. One usually never looks back to combustion once bitten by the vape!
