Little insect

Well I got some weed from the black market and in one of the flowers I found a really small insect (probably some plant pest) so i threw away the flower. Should I throw away the rest of the weed I got or can I smoke it after some thorough check? I had already smoke some before I found the insect and it was medium quality for black market standards. Also the flowers seem normal-ish, green with some brown parts, good smell, with the white crystals on the surface, a bit drier than usual but nothing alarming on the outside. What's your opinion? Would you throw away the whole stuff?

The only thing is that I'm not sure what to look at. How does it look the mold in the weed? Is it white and hairy?

Not sure about mold, I've never had moldy bud that I know of, and I'm not sure what that would be like. I'd imagine there's some smell to it.

I agree and wouldn't relate the presence of an insect to mold worries. Two very different things. Keep in mind that the FDA publishes a table with the amounts of insects and rodent droppings allowed in bulk foods. A limit of zero just isn't realistic...

On the other hand I really don't want to know about the bugs and will try to forget I read this...

Lucky you! Yes there is sort of a smell like when you used to leave a sandwich and/or banana in your school bag over the summer break!
I think the OP would know something was badly wrong already if it was also moldy. Look for white, gray or brown fur or coating, a nasty dampish smell and a ragged appearance, the potency is often greatly reduced from thc deterioration. It would hurt your lungs in a vape and make you out of breath sitting still.

At the very least id return it for refund. Any grower worth his/her salt would replace or refund lest their reputation suffer.

No biggie on the bug. Pick it out and carry on. I had an outbreak of spider mites in my garden a number of years ago. Spider mites snap, crackle and pop when you smoke them.

What makes you believe a bug didn’t stop by and leave a little gift on the last bud you vaped? That’s just one of those things that if you don’t mnow it probably won’t hurt you.

I don’t have to worry about that my stuff is grown indoors. And I know where it exactly comes from. Plus it’s washed before harvest too.

Think rain.
I wash my flowers after harvest, too. Some folks dunk them in a bucket of water, I hose mine down with a garden sprayer, hang to dry and trim. Fans and ventilation help control overall humidity. I also spray them periodically while growing but only when lights are off to avoid burning.
I'm in an unfriendly state so my garden is in my basement. I attempt to duplicate nature as much as possible indoors using organic inputs and trying to follow natural processes.

For anyone really worried about a bug in their weed, you may not want to eat food again.

A percentage of insect parts, rodent poop, rat hair, mites, maggots, larvae and more are allowed by FDA guidelines, in just about everything we eat.

For example: In a regular-sized 16-ounce jar of peanut butter, the FDA will allow up to 136 insect fragments and four rodent hairs. Or, in a 15-ounce box of golden raisins, the government will not allow more than 65 fly eggs.

I try not to think about it.

That makes sense. The humidity is a huge problem where I used to grow so we tried to keep everything as dry as possible. I like the hydrogen peroxide wash idea.

edit: I do have to disagree with how well you think it works. The weed I grew was sticky enough to trap flies. A water wash isn’t going to wash away anything stuck in the trichomes of good herb. Spider mites were devastating. There was no way to get them out of the glue.

Rainwater or tap? Our tap water here has fluoride and other treatments are done to it. I use my own collected rainwater but that is not even very good in some places (not a problem here)
I never spray my indoor plants once buds are starting to develop (unless flushing after spraying bugs)...probably why the spider mites like them so much.
Bugs in buds do not necessarily mean no chems...I use all sorts of shit to kill the little fuckers when they find their way in.

Mold on dry weed will look greyish, and the area around the rotted part will tend to be a dirty light brown. There is often no identifying mold smell if the weed is dry. Usually the grower will have cut most of the mold away but light brown patches on the bud stems and mutilated buds can be a telltale sign and the weed should then be checked thoroughly.
