Tek Levitation Volatilization

I was trying to find a more efficient and tasty method for volatilizing concentrates. Dabs on glass seem to taste a little better than on metal. If only a flame wasn't necessary to heat the nail. Electric heat is the only other choice. How to get the glass nail to interface with the heat source is the real challenge.
I cast aside all conventional thinking to have a heavy mass for heat retention and thought about using a contact lens size and shaped disc of glass. The shape of the disc allows it to float in a laminar stream of air much like a ping pong ball does. The disc will hold a small amount of concentrate material (shatter, oil, wax, or hash). I have a stainless steel heater cover installed in addition to the glass heater cover on my LSV. The glass disc fits perfectly onto the end of the ss heater cover and levitates when hot air is gently drawn through the glass tube. I have a whip on the end of the glass tube so I can watch the action and keep the tube vertical. The taste is very good since the material only touches glass. The heat is just enough to volatilize the oil so you don't get a scorched oil taste. The amount of material that would be used for one dab produces many more doses using this method. The whip can be passed around between multiple people.
The 18mm glass roasting tube is the fluidizing one I use with flowers. The screens are just removed. The LSV power level is set all the way to high.

I love the theory but...What is to stop this small glass dish, which would have to be pretty light, from breaking and small shards getting into the air path.

Being light in weight is an advantage. Most glass breaks from its own weight/mass. I drop the glass disc into a glass jar to cool after each use. It is quite robust for its small size. It will shatter if you step on it though but not from its own mass and not from the tiny forces it sees bouncing around in the air stream.
I always use a hemp fiber filter in the glass mouthpiece tube anyhow so even if there were glass shards, they would get captured. The glass disc only levitates because it is a disc. If it were broken, it wouldn't be lifted into the air. I remember wearing glass contact lenses and this glass is even thicker than they were. I never did break a contact lens. I used to insert them two at a time. I would put one lens on my index finger and the other on my ring finger and just pop them both in with one motion.

Pretty sweet, I would be worried about the thing randomly flipping upside down and then leaking into the unit.

Very interesting. I wonder how this method compares to the DBV nail kit (basically just a Ti nail that fits on the element)?

I was wondering how this method would work using a metal disc rather than glass. Metal can get a lot hotter than glass so it might work a little faster. The only metal I had that was the right size was a 1/2" fine mesh ss screen that I had formed into a hemisphere. It floats in the hot air stream just as well as the glass disc plus it allow air to flow through it. Since the metal is so thin, it doesn't burn your fingers when you grab it off the end of the ss heat tube. The metal really only gets roasting hot when hovering in the hot air stream. I leave the ss screen setting on the heat tube to stay heated up. I use a metal tool to place a small amount of concentrate onto the center of the screen. The material will start melting into the mesh of the screen which will cause the screen to stick to your dab tool. When just the right amount of oil has melted into the screen, the tool will release taking any excess with it.
Now I install the 18mm glass roasting tube / cover and inhale to lift the screen which vaporizes the oil. The volatilization happens very quickly since the screen has a large surface area. The screen can be heated until red to burn off any heavy oils that didn't get vaporized. The flavor is very good since the ss screen only gets heated enough to vaporize the oil. The imperfections in the screen cause it to spin as it levitates.
It also works with hash. I place a small amount in the screen before installing onto the ss heat tube. There is a bit of residue that needs to be brushed out after each use. It is the best way for using Essential Extracts that I have found. It even works with flowers at a lower temperature.
Really loving my LSV.
Wondered if it would also work with the HI. I placed the screen and concentrate in the same as with the HILSV and then covered it with an empty glass roasting tube. It takes a little longer to roast the screen since it doesn't get quite as hot, but works quite well. The draw needs to be very slow so you don't pull the screen all the way up into the roasting tube. A few more watts would really do the trick.
