Jimmy Kimmel Calls Obama Out at WHCD

A fairly reasonable analysis. Given the national numbers favoring legalization I would have thought that WA would lead that a little, but like I said, I am watching with interest from down here in Oregon. If kids are really the issue, they will be best served with legalization, regulation, and education. Once the insane prohibition ends you won't have kids smoking bath salts spice etc and the cannabis will be removed from the criminal setting, keeping kids away from the meth.

I would think that kids would be one of the issues.

Another would the fact that those out there trying to convince people to support this are pretty much dirty, smelly hippies.

I don't know if you have been to the seattle hempfest but it is rather open here in many cities.

Well, personal hygiene issues aside, I think the voters in your state will look past the surface and, hopefully, use some critical thinking skills and actually analyze the issue and decide for themselves. Time will tell.

Yeah but you have to consider a well dressed, highly taxed person, hard working person is not going to pay much attention so someone with dirty dread locs, torn clothing, and shouting legalize weed.

I'm one of the only people I know who actually read the voter pamphlet that explains politicians views and information regarding voter initiatives.

Right, but the screaming, dirty hippie is not the only tool in the box, thank god. The movement exists at many levels simultaneously, if it didn't, it wouldn't have made it this far. I totally understand about reading the pamphlet, cover to cover for me, I especially like the arguments that oppose my position because they make me rethink why I am doing what I am doing.

There is a hard catch 22 though.

With out a doubt I know many, many working professionals who smoke. The thing is you're not going to hear them come out and talk about it because they families and careers. Something tangible that they aren't willing to risk.

The past legalization bills in WA haven't been written very well though...

The social stigma is huge, I agree. I live with it, and I dislike it. Lives, families, careers can be at stake, absolutely. And over what? A plant. A very useful plant that you used to be legally required to grow in some states, waaaaay back in the day, however I digress. The voting booth, thankfully, is still private to a certain degree. I'm glad to hear that the bills are well written, legal syntax can be the kiss of death for any proposed legislation. For example, the whole O'Bama care thing may go down because harry Reid forgot a sever-ability clause to protect from the unconstitutionality of the individual mandate. :)

IMO, anytime that cannabis is brought up in the mainstream, in an honest light, it is good for our movement.

To me, nothing is sacred and everything is up in the air for a joke. That's probably due to the comedians that helped raise me (Carlin, Pryor, etc.) and made me incapable of being offended.

As far as the upcoming votes, WA. is pretty quiet. Mid 40s either way would not suprise me. The real action is happening in CO. They have the model already in place, the majority support it, and they won't suffer from the internal sabotage CA suffered from the medical community (lesson learned from the recent raids, and much stricter regulation). I'm going to venture out and say CO. will pass easily +60%.

Yes, I mentioned CO earlier but TP and I got tracked on WA since he resides there. CO is the leader in MJ in the US, no question, CA has gone completely sideways . . .

It may be quiet but a lot of famous strains were bred hear and the pacific northwest is the mecca of glass blowing.

I had a friend ( non smoker) who recently moved to CO. He knew about the whole mmj thing but wasn't prepared for how out and open it is.

I knew his stance from the minute I saw a "town hall meeting" where some one mentioned the economic benefit and he replied with "this is not the way to grow the economy"

No one on here should view obummer in a positive light.

I was just watching the beginning of Jimmy Kimmel Live and some of his opening stuff was about cannabis. I see a trend here.....

it shouldn't be about growing the economy, it should be about taking proper care of our citizens who cannot enjoy life the normal way, through emotional connections.

All the arguments revolve instead around how to get the addict to drop the pipe, without offering anything meaningful in it's place.

Get the argument to revolve around how we as a society condemn and imprison people who were abused as children for self-medicating, and show how people's lives are disrupted unneccessarily by the war on drugs, then I'll believe mentions in the media are useful.

But, as it stands, none of them get to the dark side of this prohibition. none of them are talking about the human costs. None of them seem to be able to make jokes about what happens when you're caught, or what it's like to waste your entire day taking busses to see a Probation Officer, or the emotional turmoil of having the penal system fuck with your life in basic ways, and what it's like to have a brain condition that makes dealing with that stress almost impossible.

None of these comics seems to be able to get to the truth in their jokes, they all just bandy about the dominant narratives. They're like oracles of society, blinded by the media they work in.

What we deserve is a comedian who can quantify the human suffering in their jokes.

Where would Obama be today, if he had been caught smoking pot in college, and had all his loans pulled and was kicked out of law school? That would have been a joke I'd like to have heard directed to the president.

The president doesn't seem to incorporate the fear we live in, to what policies are being carried out.

There is a basic disconnect between reality and what is being done by the government.

In Portugal they decided to stop seeing it as criminal activity, and instead see it as a health issue. It's a basic difference of opinion, but one we're not allowed to consider as a society because of the political interests of our News media.

I thought that was hilarious VW  but I don't think the President would have been as amused as I was.

Bingo! They don't have to live under the systems they put in place for the rest of us. If they had to, maybe they would design things differently? But you will never convince them to live like the rest of the slaves.

Portugal has really been interesting to watch, they are proving legalization, regulation and education work. I think between the media, big pharma, alcohol & tobacco, synthetic fiber and chemical companies and god knows who else lining up on the side of prohibition, its a wonder our medicine can even grow at all in the current climate . . .

Just a word about Portugal, it is true that the law now states it as a health issue instead of criminal IF you have less then a certain amount, which is 5g for hash and 25g for flowers. I don't know how we stand on harder drugs but i think it is similar although i am not the least bit sure.
And, in theory, you can only partake outside of public areas, like at home. This, of course, is harder to regulate, but you can have you stash confiscated and a psychologist apointment if you are doing it outside and get caught.

No one is forcing you to break the law.

WTF is the point in saying that? You do realise that you're on a MJ vaporizer forum, right?

So the only laws that are unjust are the ones that we are forced to break in order to live. And only then can you raise issue with the way you are treated?

If you ever get busted I will just laugh and tell you that it was your choice, and honestly hope you'd receive the worst of what the system you so strongly support has to offer.
