ISO Resin / Hash... Safe?

Hello folks! New here and I want to thank you all for being a great reference for me. Thanks for all your great advice over time!

I've searched for this but haven't found the exact answer I've been looking for, and as an amateur with vapes, I really wanted to take it up with the experts, yourselves.

Just yesterday, I decided to clean out my vaporizer wand for the first time. It was pretty brown and in need of some good TLC, so, after much research, I soaked it in 70% ISO / water for several hours, occasionally lifting it up to drain it, scrape some really stubborn resin off the inside, then back in the ISO it goes.

After the piece was next to new looking, I filtered it through a brown (unbleached) coffee filter, draining the alcohol (or as much as I could), then putting the rest of the resin in a glass bowl, in a plastic bag with holes in it, to evaporate over night, and hopefully remove the rest of the alcohol content. Today, it feels barely damp, but otherwise dry and relatively like clumpy bits of dark sand or dirt.

The one question I just haven't been able to find the answer to is, is there any residual alcohol leftover on this? Is it safe to vape this leftover resin / hash? I'm really excited to try this but it just seems dangerous, what with chemicals and all, providing I did this process correctly. Is this safe for your lungs?

70% ISO has 30% water. ISO Flashes away pretty quickly, but smelling it is a good way to know if theres any left. I'd take that chunk and put it in front of a fan and only smoke it when its dry or pretty thick.

If I understand you correctly, you filtered the iso through a coffee filter and then evaporated the iso off of what was left in the filter? The filtered iso is what you want to keep, not the remaining residue. Throw the solids away

Have I misunderstood you? It happens, what can I say lol

@jrs1418 It's pretty thick, and I don't smell any alcohol, but I'm going to leave it for a few more hours just to be safe.

@salivape That's exactly what I did. After I cleaned the glass piece, there was quite a bit of brownish bits at the bottom of the bowl where the glass piece was sitting in the ISO. I took the coffee filter and poured out the solution (I was a bit intimidated when it comes to making a "honey" or anything like that). What was left in the filter was the brown bits that had come off of the piece, sitting in the filter. That's what I saved, and is now currently drying out. Did I do this right? Based on your post, I think it got completely backwards... Sorry, I'm a complete rookie at this.

Yes I'm afraid to say you kept the bits that the coffee filter is meant to remove. The stuff you have left is just ABV with the remaining cannabinoids stripped away from it. What you should have done is evaporated the filtered ISO which should leave you with more of what you are after, a gold/brown sticky goop.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news man. For what it's worth throwing away the reclaimed oil is about the best thing you could have done. That shits naaaasty but it sure as hell works.

No, that's perfectly fine! You've got to learn somehow, in some way. I appreciate the insight. This has been an interesting science experiment. So the goopy stuff is safe to do what you please with? I'd heard of some people smearing it inside of their bowls, others putting it into capsules and consuming or cooking it it. I take it the gross goop is safe, even after the alcohol has evaporated?

Yes, you should have evap'd the IPA and reclaimed what it liquefied. But the leftovers you got from the coffee filter might have some kick left to it.. drop it on your next bowl I say! :ko:

@jrs1418 Live and learn! It's tempting to try that though, but that would mean neglecting some new stuff I just bought.

@darkrom It was perfectly fine experimenting once, which I learned exactly what I needed to learn in order to do it correctly. Now I know what to do next time! I'm really not even upset about it. I learned some interesting things and got a clean vape wand out of it! Also, this guy really looks like he knows what he's doing, thanks for the reference.

@Zoidberg I'm thinking that's what I'll do, either that or 99%. I heard with higher content it would be a good idea to add just a touch of water, even though it would only take longer to evap? Someone mentioned using an eye dropper and adding ten drops.

I might try out some of these methods with product that has already gone through the vape, the "leftovers". Maybe it will pull some concentrate off of that too.

Once again, you all are great and this has, by far, been the friendliest and most helpful forum I've visited online, regarding anything.

91% IPA has 9%-ish water in it. Just use that, you can find it anywhere.

When i'm done with 91% sometimes there's water still running in it. I smell first to make sure no more IPA, then just toss the water out. Water and oil dont miz and will seaprate anyways. The rest evaps pretty quickly.

as long as amazon is shipping it, it doesnt really matter. i ordered plenty of things considered illegal where i used to live but they shipped it anyway. some things on amazon have zip code restrictions ie: wont ship to your state but thats because it isnt shipping from amazon itself. check on their site i et youll find one thats at their warehouse and itll ship to you before 2:30 the next day

is it true I can get an "a,b,c,and d"? End product.. I only ever tried a and b never did a third or forth wash
