Is there CBD in marijuana vapor?

I recently stopped smoking and started vaping with the Dynavap M. I've noticed the high seems pretty different. Is there less CBD in marijuana vapor than marijuana smoke? All studies I can find only refer to THC.

I've also heard that people take "tbreaks" when they vape for a while to bring their tolerance back down. This seems pretty different from what I'm used to. When I would smoke, my experience was actually improved when my tolerance went up. I'm a micro dose kind of guy. I smoked marijuana similar to the way a person would smoke cigarettes. I'd pack mini bowls and take the whole thing in one rip basically every hour on the hour, when I wasn't at work and school. I consume marijuana regularly and don't like the idea of being forced to take a break, but I don't want to smoke anymore. Recently I've developed a pretty bad acid reflux problem that has caused outrageous, debilitating, anxiety. I'm hoping I can successfully switch to vaping for this reason. So far my experience has been mixed. Vaping seems to last much, much longer than I am accustomed to, but at the same time I feel more sober in a weird way. I'm high right now, but I'm not quite sure if I'm really enjoying it. It's distracting, but not in the comfortable way I'm accustomed to. Normally I'd be ripping bowls all night up until the point I went to sleep, but at the moment I'm a little afraid to rip it again. I think I'd get too high. I recently qualified for medical marijuana, so I can start experimenting with different strains to see if that helps soon.

Any recommendations for this new vaper? I have been using the vape with a sneaky pete "baby bong" if that is relevant.

So a few things, I dont believe there are many studies on CBD vapor vs combustion. CBD seems to have alittle higher boiling point than THC so you may want to stick to higher temps BUT what you are describing probably has little to do with CBD and more to do with missing tar, benzene and other compounds that occur when you combust. A pretty universal high that people seem to experience with vaporizing vs combustion is a "cleaner" less foggy high, I am wondering if that is what you are experiencing? Why not get some high CBD strains and mix it with alittle THC strain to get a kick. You can also try loading small amounts in the dynavap instead of a full bowl.

I am not sure how acid reflux has any relation to anxiety, personally I get acid reflux as well and take omeprazole as needed. So im not sure I understand the link but if you want to be more healthy then vaporization is a good way to do that. And I have personally found T-breaks to be beneficial, I have had withdrawal symptoms on more than one occasion. One time I remember feeling hungry one moment, then alittle nauseated the next, then hot the next, cold the next, much more sensitive to muscle aches, change in mood, poor sleep, etc. That happened for ~3 days, wasnt fun.

Check this out around the 11:15 mark, he vapes CBD hemp flower after getting really high/jittery on sativa dominate marijuana:

Cleaner is a good word to describe it. There is an awareness to it that I'm not used to. I'm used to having peripheral thoughts pushed out of my mind when I smoke, and that's part of what I like about it. It distracts from things that are stressing me out. I have been packing about half way and taking one to two small rips with visible vapor. S I think I will try some high CBD strains. The video seems to confirm that it's at least possible to get CBD out of the buds, so that's good, thank you for posting it.

The truth is I am not entirely sure what's causing the anxiety, and I'm not even sure it is anxiety. But acid reflux can cause it if it is bad enough to disrupt breathing, and I've had my heart and lungs tested already and they are both good. I've been to the hospital twice in the past two months because I was certain I couldn't breath. That's what it feels like most of the time, like I can't breath, like if I don't put effort into breathing on purpose I'll stop doing it. I've been all messed up since the end of the spring semester. Engineering school is pushing me to my extreme limits. I'm at a loss for what's going on honestly. Doctors say I'm fine, but I sure don't feel that way. I've never experienced this type of thing before. I was always a very resilient person. The thought that it could be the weed has crossed my mind, and I took a 30 day break for that reason. I'm not sure if it helped. I'm better now than I was before, but I think it's only because I've gotten used to suffering at this point. I was prescribed prednisone when this first happened, because they thought in the beginning it might be asthma. I was also prescribed xanax, which I took for only 4 days. I thought for a while that those drugs really fucked me up and prolonged whatever this is. I'm not sure what to think anymore, but I'm hoping reintroducing weed in my life now in a healthier way might help.

I'm not sure If I experienced withdrawal when I stopped. I had so many negative feelings it was hard to sort out what was causing what, but I did have nightmares that I'm pretty sure were from quitting. The symptoms you describe are concerning, but three days isn't so bad.

If I were you, I would try a different Vape, the Vapcap is a terrific little device, but quite powerful!
You may need something with more temp control, and Lower temps. Also how you choose You
type of strain can make a huge difference, You may need to use Hybrid, or more towards Indica
than Sativa, and start using lower doses. :chill::smug:
for CBD your better off using Cannabis CBD oil drops, from Cannabis ONLY, Not Hemp :shit:

There would be more CBD in vapor than there ever would be in combustion smoke. Most modern cultivars don't contain CBD though, it's important to find a strain that does if that's what you're seeking.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't really consider a small bowl every hour a "Microdose."
Imagine if you microdosed LSD every hour on the hour. It would quickly mute a lot of
the true effects.

It sounds like you're experiencing a THC high instead of the foggy smoke high you've been used to - that's normal! Whether you actually prefer the vapor high, that's subjective. Though perhaps you're observing that vapor is strong enough to not need a hit every hour.

As for acid reflux, I'd probably investigate dietary changes first, although I could see smoke aggravating symptoms. Honestly you might consider edibles to see how cannabis affects your reflux when not inhaling hot air.

There is more CBN in smoke vs vapor this is probably what your experiencing look it up , i have linked to the study that shows this in a few threads here . There is a lot more CBNin smoked weed which has a calming effect

Sorry to hear about your health problems.

When I first started using my M, being a noob I was not getting full extraction from my herb, now that I've had more experience I can take a bowl/tip much further and find I can get more of the chill/relax compounds if I want/need to.

Taking breaks can help if you use a lot and want to lower your tolerance, but you probably won’t have to take any breaks if you keep your usage well *under* the amount you used to smoke (not the same amount because smoking burns up a good portion of the cannabinoids while vaporizing preserves a lot more of them and delivers them to your lungs).

The discomfort you’re feeling may be coming from a low tolerance since you said you’re just starting again. If you keep hitting it regularly, but using a smaller amount of flower/hash/whatever, it should be pretty easy to get past.

It’s also possible that you’d do better with different strains. If you’re using Sativas right now, maybe try some Hybrids or even Indicas too. Mixing in some high CBD strains with the more common high THC strains can help get you to the right balance of effects too.

Whatever you try, like I said using smaller doses more regularly should help if you’re trying to comfortably increase your tolerance, and once you do I think you’ll get more of what you’re looking for. Also consider combining vapor with edibles (especially if you use it before sleeping or when you have a lot of pain to deal with and don’t need to be very functional). ;)

Thats rough man, I hope you get it figured out or managed. We are put through ALOT in graduate school, while I havent had the same exact thing happen to me I can still relate (along similar lines). Unfortunately I suspect we are not alone in school induced anxiety.

Yes dreams come back like a flood gate when you take a break, I think its common to have strong and frequent dreams. I believe it has to do with cannabis inhibiting REM sleep.

Try tumeric for the acid reflux. 1500mg once per day got me off pharmaceuticals. I was a daily prilosec user before my MMJ doctor suggested it, now I haven't had prilosec in over 2 years. Best of luck and enjoy your vape, you'll settle into it.

Thank you for the info, I will happily test this and see what happens.

Thank you everyone for your replies  I have been vaping since the date of my original post. It has been a little difficult to break into, but now that I have I don't think I could go back to combustion. I tried combusting a bowl the other day and found it to be foul. Vapor used to irritate my throat, but I think I've pushed past it. My breathing has been fairly regular. The fact that I'm not inhaling toxic tar and carcinogens anymore has put me at ease a little. I'm not back to 100 percent, but the prospect of being able to use cannabis again without causing health problems has me excited. My acid reflux seems to have relaxed a little. I cannot say for certain if the cannabis is to thank, because I've also made some changes in my daily routine like avoiding spicy foods and not eating before bed. I'm still adjusting to the differences of vapor. I'm not certain I like it better than I liked smoking before, but I've been liking it more and more every day. I'm hoping I can make it to a point where I'm absolutely confident in vaping and glad I switched. I'm about 75 percent of the way there.

I recently purchased the Arizer Air and am waiting for it to be delivered. I've gotten a little paranoid about vape safety and the glass vapor path appeals to me. I hope micro dosing is possible with it. I would appreciate any shared wisdom :D

This has turned out to be true for me. I started with the Dynavap half full. I'm down to less than 1/4th now and I've been having more pleasant experiences with it. I'm going to work on keeping my tolerance low like I did when I smoked. No long sessions with huge vapor clouds for me. Just one good puff and I'm good.

I'm happy to find another marijuana using academic. It's nice to know I'm not the only one. Sometimes I think I'm crazy. I smoke before class sometimes, and even on days I have exams (don't worry, I still do well). I've been vaping since the date of my original post and strangely I have continued dreaming. It seems as if vaping doesn't steal dreams as aggressively as combustion. But maybe they will be gone soon. But I think I'm okay with that. A lot of them were really bad. The one's I've had recently have been okay though.

When I first started using my M, being a noob I was not getting full extraction from my herb, now that I've had more experience I can take a bowl/tip much further and find I can get more of the chill/relax compounds if I want/need to.

What do you do to get full extraction? I know the temperature matters. Right now I'm heating the cap up with a single flame around the center until the cap clicks. It takes me about 5 seconds after that to get in position to use my bubbler. I take one or two good hits and leave it at that. The cap doesn't unclick for a while past the point I've finished (does that waste herb?) I've been trying to avoid vaporless hits because I think that means the bud hasn't heated up enough to release all of the cannabinoids. I have noticed that the bud seems to hit harder and harsher after the first couple times heating up one bowl. That's what my last rip was like, and it seems pretty different from the others. I'm legitimately stoned at the moment, just like I would be If I had smoked. How do you know the bowl is kicked? I've been nervous to push it too far because I am really trying to avoid harsh hits. I've been left with a raw throat from vaping in the past. I know that the flavor changes. There is a distinct point where I've noticed the taste change and the smoke becomes a little harsher. Should I vape past that? I've been dumping the bowl the moment I notice the change.

There would be more CBD in vapor than there ever would be in combustion smoke. Most modern cultivars don't contain CBD though, it's important to find a strain that does if that's what you're seeking.

That is exciting news! When I say I was hitting small bowls, I mean really small bowls. I would sometimes need to plug the bowl hole with a bud flake just to keep it all from falling through. I am really trying to prefer the vape high. I'm still not absolutely sure I do, but for whatever reason I've been reaching for the vape again and again. At the moment I have a pretty pleasant high going on. They haven't all been like this. I am starting to recognize the high a bit more though as marijuana and not something else. I always thought the fogginess was part of the high. It's strange being so present while high. For a while it made me question If I even like getting high. But I'm still reaching for it, so I guess I do.

The arizer air is a fantastic vaporizer but unfortunately I dont think its best suited for your usage. From what you have posted here it sounds like you need a portable on demand style device. Arizer portables are really more of a session style vaporizer. The pros of the air IMO over the dyna, its much more consistent and controllable; arizer solo/air are some of the most consistent vaporizers I have used. Now if you still want to keep the air I would say to load as little as you can and then vape it fully (or half fully and toss it, doesnt matter that much with how little you can use in it). You can use a dome screen or a slightly too large screen and put it in the stems to make the bowl size less volume.

When I first started with my Dynavap, i was new to vaping and was paranoid about combusting, so I mostly heated the first third of the cap closest to the clicker end, with a triple flame torch, my abv came out light brown.

Fast forward to now, single, double or triple flame, I can get my abv dark brown if I feel the need and I find the effects more like, laid back, more chilled so to speak.

I always, always, always make sure that I inhale those first vaporless/wispy hits.
They are the coolest(in temperature) and by far the best tasting which also contain important terpenes that help regulate the buzz.

The later/milky/cloudy hits are hotter than the first couple, I certainly find that they can be harsh and a water piece is a good way to trying to lessen some of that harshness.

Some Dynavap owners use a mouth pull technique along with a hemp "filter" to help with the harshness. @Squiby has a great write up about it(sorry, I can't find it at the moment)

Hope this helps.

I have a very sensitive lungs (severe chronic lifelong asthmatic) and have found that mouth pulls and degummed hemp fiber filters create a very smooth, cool, non irritating vapour.

Take a few inches of degummed hemp fiber.
p7vVxSX.jpg

Moisten one end and wind it like you are preparing to thread a needle. Place it between your thumb and index finger and wind it round and round between your two fingers to create a flat round filter.
l70Hzpn.jpg

Stuff this into the bottom of your bowl. This filter will effectively remove any tiny particles that may otherwise get through your screen and into your lungs. It also keeps your condenser surprisingly clean and clear of debris.

The mouth pull technique provides a cooler fresher vapor inhale. Dial down to a tight air restriction and cover the carb for most of the toke. Pull the vapor into your mouth without inhaling, like you would when puffing on a cigarette or cigar. Near the end of the pull, open or feather the carb to bring the last of the vapor into your mouth along with that pulse of fresh carb air, then open your mouth, remove the Vapcap and inhale the vapour and fresh air into your lungs. Exhale. Repeat.

Use a filter. Take short mouth pulls versus long tokes and incorporate fresh air.

This technique, for me, gets me where I want to be with no lung irritation. It is the smoothest, coolest vapor I have ever experienced in a vape. Because of this and all the other inherent characteristics of this ingenious device, my VAS is now only focused on Dynavap parts and accessories.

I have zero desire to try out any other vape. The Vapcap checks all my boxes and then some.

If you experience lung irritation, try this technique.

Fortunately Arizer is pretty great about refunds according to what I've read. I'll at least use it once to see what it's like. What vape would you recommend? I'm trying to find a safe vape with temperature control that can take small bowls. If mouth pulls are possible that would be nice too. I was considering the Fury 2, but silicon and plastic in the air path got me worried. I was thinking about getting a glass stem for it, but I think there would still be silicon around the filter. The first vape I ever bought a few years ago was the G Pen Elite, which has a very real melting plastic problem. It put me off from vaping pretty quick. Both the Fury 2 and Arizer are going for 109$(US) at the moment. That's around my price range.

Found it.

Thank you! I was looking for filters like these. All I could find before were cardboard like "filters" for joints. The thought of putting the hemp fiber in the bowl worries me though. Would it not off gas or combust? I previously used the mouth pull technique with everything I smoked, including cigarettes a long time ago, so that's what I naturally started doing with the Dynavap. Maybe I'll stuff some hemp fiber in the mouth piece and see how that goes.

Most people who use hemp fiber filters put it in the bottom of the tip (the thin part under the screen), in the top of the condenser, or turned into a thin disc and sandwiched between two screens in the bowl. If you want to try it in the mouthpiece it may work differently, but it will probably work too, so let us know how it goes!

Even in the bowl though, it doesn’t get hot enough to burn hemp fiber. Probably hot enough to release something that could affect taste a bit, but not hot enough to combust.

You should be able to mouth pull with the Air too. I think the main concern about it was that it’s more of a session vaporizer so if you don’t want to use the whole load at once you may end up with some waste and less good taste if you do stop and come back to it later. I hope it works out for you though! :)

Thank you :D What specifically makes the Air a session vape? I found a post on vaporents with a guy saying he lets the Air heat up a bit before hitting it, takes one rip, and then turns it off right away. I used the temperature controlled vape I owned previously this way (G Pen Elite ). Would this be wasteful? What other vape would you recommend? Also, does anyone use hemp filters with their Arizer vapes?

I’ve just always heard it talked about as a session vape and I think it has some conduction heating going on, but if people are successfully using it the way you describe it may work out great for you.

Personally I use a NewVape FlowerPot at home, mostly VapCaps for portable right now, but I have a Nomad being built or me right now and I expect to use that a lot.

The stuff I think would work out best for you is on-damand convection like the FlowerPot, Herborizer or Glass Stmphony for desktops or Nomad, Milaana, MVT, Li’l Bud, Li’l Bud Elite, Tubo, Firewood, Splinter, iHeat, Imp, etc. - the first 4 portables are “unregulated”, the others attach to or have built in box mods, and there are more I didn’t get in that list.

What you have could also work well, they’re just *designed* a little more for sessions. Anything you can make work for you that isn’t cheap plastic junk should be fine, but convection or maybe hybrid heating should generally work best for you, and good desktops have more power in case you feel like you’re not getting enough out of portables. Some of the portables do compete with desktops these days though. :)

a session vape is one that takes while to reach heat point and then relies on conductive properties to keep the load active during the time of vapor... we are now in a Time of Vapor!

When it comes to CBD, your DynaVap is definitely not recommended (by Me)
The Arizer should serve you well, though I hope You chose the AIR II, definitely worth the extra!
Though, personally, I'd have recommended you buy the Solo II, or the Ghost MVI :smug:
