Is ABV Safe to Eat After Long-term Storage?

I have been saving my ABV in my two JyARZ Satchmos (i.e. they're sealed away VERY well).
One of has been sitting there, mostly full, for over a year.

Is it still safe for direct consumption? i.e. I'm not talking about smoking it or cooking with it, but just taking a spoonful in mouth and chewing and swallowing (or putting it in a smoothie or with a bite-size Snickers or whatever; all of which I do already with more recent stuff).

Every once in a while, I do eat my more recent ABV. A teaspoon in a smoothie works amazingly, and not bad with a Snickers either.

I'm just not sure now about this other stuff that I have had saved away for so long. There's no strange odor (relative to the more recent stuff), or color, or anything like that.

Should it still be OK to eat?
Does it 'go bad', or are there any other sorts of known problems, or things to look for, or to consider?

Sounds good. Thanks!

The only reason I'm asking is that, unlike my jars of cooking herbs on the shelf in the kitchen, this stuff has been handled (multiple times), etc, and I'm just thinking of whether or not it's possible to contaminate it (even in a minor way) in a way that would be OK for cooking (to kill off anything that might have started growing in the mix), but not straight-up eating plain/raw without cooking it.

There's not much to feed on in ABV and it's essentially been sterilized and dried by your vaporizer. No neutrients, food or water = no bacteria, mold, or micro organisms.

My understanding is that it has to bind with fat/oil to be effective... I've always thought that meant heating it at least a little. Scrambled eggs or omelette cooked in ABV infused olive oil is what I'm thinking for next time. Before I started vaping I used to make a mean vainilla and/or lemon milkshake with nutmeg, boiling freshly ground herb in milk and stirring for ages. It was tasty and effective, but vaping is way more economical with the herb. Might try it again with ABV when I have enough built up.

ABV keeps for a really really long time. It's been thoroughly dried and if I found a jar of my ABV from 5 years ago I would use it without any qualms.

Like others have said, eating goes better if you make sure to include fat like coconut oil, peanut butter, butter etc in your method.

Indeed. No need to cook it though. Once it's ABV (i.e. Already Been Vaped), it's activated, and ready to go.

Like I mentioned, I use it in smoothies (which have nuts, seeds, etc) or even with a small bite from a mini Snickers bar, and BAM! :)

I ate one of my brownies that I made with my ABV cannabutter a little while ago. Definitely a mellow edible in my limited experience, there's no freight train of a body high building at this point.

My experience when using a teaspoon in a smoothie or with a bite of Snickers is nice and mellow. Sometimes it comes on sort of suddenly and strong for like a minute or so maybe, but always levels out, and sometimes lasts with that nice, mellow tone for many hours. One day, I think I got a very consistent 6 hours out of it when I did the smoothie route (with no other cbt or thc sources involved whatsoever for the rest of that period of time...just the one teaspoon in a good, single-serving smoothie consumed over a few minutes to 15 or twenty minutes. Seems to kick in anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour later. It's a 'window of time', but it's been MUCH more consistent, reliable and effective than ANY purchased edible I've ever tried. I wouldn't argue the point or anything, but it's definitely a major bonus to vaping. I get to have my cake and eat it too!) :)

holy shit....did I just type all that? sorry, man

While that is true for uncooked herb, ABV can be VERY effective without any fat or oil. I've mixed it in with oatmeal and it worked great.

I once challenged a friend to vape a bowl then dump the contents in their mouth DRY and swallow them LOL. We had a fun name for it but I no longer recall.

He got ripped and definitely felt the effects of the ABV.

The most efficient way to use ABV is to revape it at max temperature, I reckon. I can appreciate the fun in converting it to an Edible high though - I'll definitely get round to some scrambled eggs one of these days :peace:

I would not eat AVB. I would make a QWISO/QWET extract from it and cook with it or just dab it high temp before bed. The taste when dabbing AVB oil really isn't that bad if you do small, high temp dabs and they really can be excellent night time medicine for those with insomnia like me :D

In the interest of getting as much out of it as I can, I do revape it... sometimes twice.

With my v1 PAX on medium, it gets darker after a single session than with my SSV. So, I usually only revape once. With the SSV though, it's usually a lighter shade of brown (sometimes with some green remnants) after the first revape. So, I revape it again.

Still, after all of that, one teaspoon in smoothie = perfect altitude for hours.

Seems like the only ways I could get any more out of it would be to cook with it or distill and strain it down into butter or something (too much work for me when I already get so much out of it), or smoking; which I absolutely refuse to do anymore (because....well....Fuck Combustion! Being an integral and important part of our genetic code thanks to evolution, Cancer's gonna get us all if we live long enough AND don't get killed by something else anyway. Don't want to encourage it any)

I Have had a similar experience with ABV by mixing .5g sprinkled on some pasta mixed in for a little bit it took about 2 and half hours for the effect to hit me but when it did. it came on strong and took me for a ride. I did very much enjoy that sensation. It also lasted close to 4 hours as well which is nice considering how long a few doses usually last.

Ya...once in a while I sprinkle a little on pizza, or in some other kind of food we're eating. I haven't had near the results from that kind of test as I get with smoothies or Snickers.

I'm fairly confident though, that if I were to 'pre-chew' it (either in my mouth [I know, gross...I'd never do that] or in the smoothie machine before adding it to whatever food I'm eating, I'd get a lot more out of it.

As I understand it (back to the fats/oils comments above), it is indeed because of the fats/oils that this method works so well, but also the condition of the ABV. Breaking it down so small (through chewing or smoothie machine) is what I think allows so much more of the desired content to be released and bind with the fats/oils in whatever it is that I'm eating (nuts and/or other ingredients in the Snickers bite, and nuts, seeds....oh, and I forgot....I also use coconut mana in my smoothies too. So, I'm sure that makes a huge difference).

Make a peanut butter milkshake with finely ground ABV. The peanut butter hides the cannabis taste. It tastes pretty good. The key is don't use too much ABV - go slowly. Sometimes it takes as long as 3 hours for the edible to kick in. I've used ABV that's been sitting a year and a half.

Indeed. One time, when I tried a manufactured edible (forgot which one it was), it took about 7 or 8 hours to kick in. The experience after kick-in was fine, but that delayed on-set was totally unacceptable for me.

I'm so glad to have discovered such a simple, cost-effective (i.e. it's basically near-unlimited free servings of abvcannawhateveritis) solution. Cost-effective for my time too, because I don't even need to do anything to it, or cook it into some goopy mess or anything. Just eat it with the things I'm already going to be consuming anyway. BAM!

How much ABV do you use in Oatmeal? I realize that all AVB is not the same, just looking for a ballpark amount to start with.

I have definitely eaten 2 year old ABV just by spooning it in my mouth. One time I tried putting some in my mouth and then drinking water after without chewing it up, but I didn't like that, made me cough up a hairball. Better to chew up first. Also it helps to completely powder it or remove any stems if you just grind up buds and stems together like myself. I runb it over a flour sieve and then powder the flower unless I am being lazy. I think most people remove all stem though. I do remove the central stem in a bud, but everything else gets ground up.

Usually I will follow with a spoon of coconut oil or almond butter. I can't notice much difference with ABV but any excuse to eat either is good with me!

These days usually I start off my day by eating the ABV from the herb I used from the night before, before I eat breakfast. It is not enough to get high from but it probably helps my outlook during the day.

Whenever I vape outside with friends we always eat the evidence. :) It tastes kinda good warm out of the stem, but maybe I have poor taste. ;) Most people don't mind the taste, I know one guy who hates it. People new to vaping usually have a 50/50 chance of eating the leftovers, because they are still thinking it is like eating the leftovers of a smoked bowl. So I try to eat some and try to get them to eat a little bit, so they can see that it is not burnt and there is no waste.

I'm probably going to get a warning for spamming the edibles forums with my new found enthusiasm for Moka pot vacum extraction technology, but really guys; stop gagging yourselves eating ABV and extract the goodies into coconut oil instead. It takes like half an hour including clean up time. Drop a tablespoon into some hot cocoa or coffee is easiest so far, but I suppose I'm obligated to make brownies eventually. I think it's in our contract... Oh and don't go by my dosing; my ABV is well used by the time it hits my Bialetti. I suppose in the interest of scientific experimentation I'll have to try some that hasn't been vaped multiple times.
