Hello ! I'm so sorry if this has been answered before, I did had a look but 112 pages killed my brain

I just wanted to know how long everyone keeps puffing on his iolite before considering there's nothing left to smoke and turn it off ! I can't seem to get a good feel of when it's "empty". Of course it depends on how much you've loaded it, but still, how long do you usually vap yourself !?

And thanks for all the great advice provided along this impressive topic !

Put yourself in some good lighting (streaming sunlight is by far the best) and see how long it takes to see no vapor when you exhale. Unless you have a good reason to really load up the bowl, I find it's better to load smaller amounts so you're not hitting partially vaped herb over and over. That degrades the taste and does get tiresome.

With all the variables involved, including dryness (of lack of), the wide variance of how big a hit is, how long between hits, etc., saying how long I hit on a bowl doesn't really say much. For example, my wife gets about as much in 2-3 hits as I do in one.

I get between 10-13 rips out of a decent sized bowl. I could probably get more but it starts tasting burnt at that point so I just dump it and save it.

hey thanks everyone for your input !
wow 15 sec is large rip no ? :o
I don't think I ever go above 10 seconds

max, good idea about the light to see the steam ! of course I almost only smoke during the night, so didn't find any proper light last night :p but what you're basically saying is that as long as there's steam there's thc to inhale ?

lol I just feel that I might be wasting some w***d like a moron, but maybe not :ninja:

If you hit it slow and easy, not really. I've done 30 sec. hits with the right pack and vape.

You can exhale under good lamp light and see your vapor exhales. Make sure you've got a good angle, and flourescent is better. Don't call it steam-it's not that hot. ;) It's been said that you can still get some goodness out of a bowl even after visible vapor has gone. If you're really intent on getting it all, take a few hits after it seems completely cached. Another reason I like to normally load light. The more packed your bowl, the harder and longer it is to make sure you've it all vaped.

sorry about the "steam" mention, that was indeed quite bold of me

I'll try to take a few more hits once it seems cached, do I risk to damage the device or smoke bad crap for the health if I do that too long ? :o

Happy vaping , did I mention the iolite is great attached to a bong? I should have.

i'd love to see some pics of this set up, i'm really interested in the use of a bong with the iolite, anyone else tried this (or have pics)?

I have, no pics but I only had good results with no water, with water it takes too much vapor away.

What would the point be if you're not using water then?

When I tried hooking mine up to a bong with water, the results were nearly the same as if I would have taken a draw right through the mouthpiece or tube. It sure as hell didn't milk and I couldn't even see any vapor in the bong.

Bought an Iolite from gotvape.com for $199, heres the review:

This is a portable vape with a catalytic butane heater. It is permanently set at 180 C they say.
I have never wanted a vape to work more than the Iolite. Such high hopes!!!
Packaged like an iPhone, it is a VERY clever design. It is made by Oglesby and Butler in Ireland (the emerald isle is less than friendly to the herb, so that is a surprise)
O&B made portable soldering irons before the Iolite. The used to call it iInhale, but they got sued, so now its Iolite.
The bowl is the size of a peanut. It heats unevenly, so you gotta 'stir it up' to get a consistent toast. Seems too tiny for any real Cali vape fein.
The suck tube is like a mouse's pee hole, and you gotta suck, suck, suck before anything comes out. Now suck some more.

It came with some stupid metal piece stuck inside the suck tube, but I took it out, which helped.
It is soooo cool that you can put it in your pocket (use it as hand warmer while snowboarding).
Overall, the suck tube is too small, the temp is too uneven. I guess you can get toasted with it, but I am not really sure. I retired it after a month. I wanted to get high.
4 stars for design, 1 star for effect.
ps I was at the smoking section at the Opera (with my gf fools!) during intermission and this chick had an Iolite. She was so cool  (my gf DID NOT have an Iolite :/), but then the cool girl couldnt get the thing to fire up so we were all bored as hell during act II .

I've used several different units and haven't had any problems with uneven heating. I would suspect packing too tight or quitting the bowl too soon as the probable issues.

Not sure what you mean by "Cali vape fein", but if you mean the bowl is too small, I can't think of another pocket sized vape that has a bowl anywhere near the size of this one. The herb chamber alone holds .5g.

The suck tube is like a mouse's pee hole, and you gotta suck, suck, suck before anything comes out.
I'd say the mouthpiece is an appropriate match for this vape, and haven't found that hits are that hard to get.

Overall, the suck tube is too small, the temp is too uneven.
Overall, I can't agree with your complaints. ;) The iolite isn't perfect by any means, but I've been using it since it hit the market, and still like it.

I don't agree with those complaints either. I've had three in the past two years. The first was an old i-inhale.

I'm testing out an NO2 which I am not happy with, but I also wanted to say I have not been overall super pleased with the iolite. Great concept, but flaky execution. One unit failed and would not re-ignite any longer. I still have it. I purchased a second one and after a couple months it would not re-ignite. It would simply pass gas. No pun.The second one operates at a distinctly lower (desirable for me) temp than the first one.

The third one has no issues at all. Like the second one, the third one is cooler than the first one. No more broken stems, but I have to say I am not a fan of Butane. I much prefer the battery platform of the NO2, although that thing so far tastes so bad, I may just get a desktop vape with all metal, or all glass ceramic, made in USA, etc.

Anyway, after 2 years, I am rating the iolite a 6. More specifically, I rate the first two a 4 and my third one I give a 8.5.

I've dropped mine repeatedly, generally abused it and only used it a handful of times since getting my Q in March.
Got it out today for first time in months, loaded it and it fired first time as usual.
I must be one of the lucky ones but The iolite was my introduction to vaping and for that I'm eternally grateful.
9/10 from me

My first iolite I had to throw over a bridge due to being pulled over by a cop and bad shit happening, but long story short I threw it over the bridge saw it land straight on the pavement of the street below and the shit didn't even crack open it just bounced till it stopped. I was amazed.

Just curious - did you not claim the first under warranty?

niall, I didn't send the first i-inhale back because I opened it to see what the issue was. Once opened, there's no return.

I read your discussion on Iolite and warranty repairs, Mine stopped working about 4 months after I got it, I checked out the actual warranty which says nothing about buying your unit from an authorized dealer and since they don't post authorized dealers online and make it your responsibility, I contacted the dealer and he won't help and I contacted Iolite several times and they stated my dealer isn't authorized to sell the thousands of units they do making loads of money for Iolite. They are breaking the law according to the Federal Trade Commission statement on warranties, so I have reported their practices to them. If you live in California or a state that is legal to use marijuana and are documented to do so and you've had problems with Iolites disregard for their warranty file a complaint with the FTC at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov

That is incorrect. Google "gray market". The manufacturer is not required to do anything when the product ispurchased through an unauthorized dealer. The unauthorized dealer IS responsible, however.

I completely agree they should post the names of authorized dealers, given the problem.

I did Google it, you are somewhat correct, but I also read that cases have been won against companies doing this because they didn't mention the restrictions about authorized dealers inside the wrapped package. The company has recently added this wording to their online warranty but inside my package in the book that came with my Iolite it says it's under a 2 year warranty.

There is a lot of legal precident with camera companies, etc. The manufacturer is fairly insulated from responsibility. Don't get me wrong. I think this stinks. However that's the law.

Best to simply not buy from gray market retailers.

As I said, it stinks. I believe authorized dealers should be posted on the manufacturers' website AND authorized dealers should have an icon of some sort. Grey market dealers should be reported. Ebay is full of them.
