Has anyone traveled on a plane with the Iolite.... Gone through security? Packed in check on luggage? Does the butane (compressed gas) in the Iolite cause the need for check-in luggage.... I travel alot and was wanting to carry it with me...

I have a feeling you'll have problems traveling in the US. It can look pretty suspicious through the x-ray, at least that's what I think.

On a cruise though is a different story, I'm sure it's no problem.

If it's giving you that much trouble it's defective. I'd contact Ciaran about warranty repair.

Yea I sent him an email about it today, waiting on his reply.

A question other iolite owners:

Once you are done using the iolite is it a good idea to fill it with butane so it stays full for next time? (And so the butane in the unit is a room temp the next time you go to turn it on)

I think I'm gunna have to do the same, for the past few months its taking a hell of a time to get the iolite started... usually somewhere between 15min - 2 hours to ignite... i'm going through about a can of colibri a week. when i switch it to 1, i can hear the hissing i let it go for about 10 sec for the flow to sound stronger before trying to click start it. it seems no matter how many times i vent and refill, it just wants to start whenever it feels like it. when it does start its usually near the end of the tank, and needs to be turned off and refueled... once its heated up though it takes no time to get started again.

Yea refilling it after every use has really helped me in getting it started instantly for the next time.

I clean mine with a product called 'Dr Green Bong Cleaner' and it gets the bowl sparkling again.

Andy
when you say the bowl do you mean the removable/mouth piece one, or the fixed one with the heat pin? cos its the heat pin side that i'd love to get sparkling again!

The manuf. calls the pin area the HeatPin Chamber (aluminum) and the mouthpiece side is the Filling Chamber (Stainless Steel). Both areas can be considered 'the bowl', since the herb normally isn't going to stay in the filling chamber once you load it up.

The heating pin chamber is pretty tough to clean, requires alot of qtip power

Qtip power!? So you've had success? Many thanks for responses!

Oh, and i just worked out what a Q-tip is, i know them as cotton buds or cotton tips...
On another note, and i will go searching as well, but has anyone had any luck re-using resin caught in the stems and other part of the iolite, in a similar way to those who get 'wand hash' from whips in other style vapes?

many thanks in advance.

I can't say I have any experience with 'wand hash' from the iolite, to me it just seems too small to bother. My tip for cleaning the iolite is to put a little but of iso in the chamber (where the heating pin is) and then turn it on for a few seconds. The heat starts to sizzle the iso which I am sure will lead to problems one day, but its makes cleaning so so so much easier. After doing that I just run a q-tip around the outside a few times and we are good to go!

Yeah, I think the general consensus is -not worth the effort.

bummer, i use a silicon tube with mine, and it sure gets 'brown' after a time, mabe if i boiled up the tube and drank the water as a sort of tincture, although the idea of drinking water thats boiled a silicon tube is a bit off putting.
never mind,
thanks for your thoughts

To collect from tubing, a good method is to find a screw just the right size to scrape the inside surface as you pull the screw through. Use some wire to pull it through.

genius! Also re cleaning bowl, i had success cleaning the heat pin chamber with a q tip dipped in 'jif'. jif is a cream cleaner that you clean dirty pots and pans with, 'without harsh scratching..' worked a treat.

Yea I have like between 2-3 feet of SSV tubing attached to my iolite and it definitely gets brown at the area closest to the iolite. I just try to run alcohol through there as best as I can, but if it really can't get out completely I cut the tube a little.

not sure if this has been posted, but... if not - FIRST!

for those familiar with the HBO show "Bored to Death" - in the previews for the upcoming season - Ted Danson's character (George) is in a car with Zack Galifianakis' character (Ray) and Ted is holding an Iolite - it is fast, but bottom left-hand corner of screen. SWEET

http://www.hbo.com/bored-to-death#/...VpFaUsDFyMjKySSeWluQX5CRW2pYUlaayMQIAUmYXOA==

IMO - the best stoner show on TV

btw - for those Iolite haters - We love ours (14 months - zero issues) - The Ioliate should win a genius award. Last week I took in into the local Blues club (saw Walter Trout) and smoked during both shows - no one noticed (or at least could tell where that sweet smell was coming from...) . And a few weeks before that John Hiatt and Los Lonely Boys concert at small venue 3rd row center - again - no issue. both were no smoking venues - try this with any other vape...

I definitely love the iolite but does anyone feel that it can be inefficient depending on how much you hit it? Because it's always on between pulls and I can see vapor steadily escaping through the tube I have attached to it. I only bring this up because I have had an instance where I filled a bowl up, took the first hit and had to go do something else. I came back about 10-15 minutes later and the bowl tasted done. Happen to anyone else?

Yea if you do something like that it will overburn the herb content, basically wasting the bowl.

What's Your Function?
Hey guys. I'm having an issue with my iInhale that maybe some of you have had before. After turning on my II, I have to click the ignitor 20-100 times before it will actually light orange. I see the blue as I click and click, but it takes some time before it actually starts to heat up. I've tried venting, but that didn't seem to help. Anyone else have ideas Should I vent it multiple times? Should I just not worry about it and contact them for warranty repair?

If you go back a page or two there are troublshooting tips quoted to help. The mfgr does suggest multiple ventings in the troubleshooting. Also, if you happen to be near the end of a can of butane, try switching to a fresh can (the good stuff of course).

If it still doesn't work properly you might email them for support or repair.

Many times I've been convinced I needed service until I went through the steps and/or switched to a new can of butane. I think even the best brands have some crap at the bottom of the bottle :( though it's just a hunch.

Goodl luck!

Basically that's what I found out but also that it seems like a waste of vapors because in the right light I can see a steady stream of vapors coming off the end of the whip I have on it. I usually hit it about every 45 seconds but I'm wondering if that is even stopped but putting a thumb over the mouthpiece.

Happy vaping , did I mention the iolite is great attached to a bong? I should have.

Yes. The tube i have on it fits perfectly into the stem of my bong. It gets bigger hits that you can see the size of when milking and its easier to hold in. Maybe I'm just imagining this(can't think of the word--ah, the placebo) but I sometimes feel less medicated after a bong with water, so I usually hit it dry. And that's comparing the water bong hits to regular dry hits. I love the fact there is so many choices when using my iolite. Because there are times when I want to use the whip or stem alone for a number of reasons.
