A good purge of the fuel can sometimes bring new life back as well.A friend just gave me his Iolite. Used a handful of times, it's probably 3 or 4 years old. It has just sat in a drawer. Won't seem to start - I switch it on, hear a faint hiss from the gas, after a while I can smell gas but just a little. I tried filling it, but it seemed nearly full. Pushing the ingniter even 10 or 15 times doesn't produce the whoosh noise I am supposed to hear - and it doesn't heat up. Any idea what could be wrong? Bad igniter?
Edit: Hey, it started working! I got an orange glow, and it's heating up!
Just got a steal on an iolite through that classifieds, juiced her up and away we go! It's so much smaller than I thought!
Does the heater actually go by temp? Seems like it's timed..
Edit#2 do all of them cycle once or twice after shutting down?
`Many variables put into the design, spring clip tension, metal expansion factors and hole placements all have to be correct. A very reliable mechanism for sure.
my friend sold me her lightly used iolite. i've used it a couple times and it worked fine, but i think i may have overfilled it and now it doesn't make any sound when i turn it on. i've tried venting the chamber but when i press down nothing happens--no sound, no liquid, no air flow out, nothing. am i doing something wrong? thanks!
yep, at first i had that problem but the last few times i've pressed hard and filled it til it started spilling out. i never looked up how long i should fill it for, so when it started acting up i filled it a lot more than i should haveAre you sure you are actually getting it filled properly? I had that problem because I wasn't pressing down hard enough when I was filling it.

don't think so--i filled it for 10+ seconds twice and haven't gotten it working since then, hence the overfilling worry. thanks for trying to get to the bottom of this! could it be clogged somehow? the butane i use is 4x refined, so i didn't think that was itIs it possible that you just drained the tank? I'm just trying to explore all options.

the problem is nothing happens when i attempt a purge--the thing's definitely being depressed, and i've tried a few different tools to make sure that wasn't the issue. You should do a purge to be sure what's happening. Let ALL the gas out via the fill connector. Need to poke something solid but won't damage the fill hole.
Next use some scales to weigh the empty IO. Write this weight down.
Now once you get a full fill with good gas, you can weigh again to get a reference. And know if gas is going in.
Good luck.
