I am having some problems with the Piezo ignition clicker on my Iolite. No problems occur when the unit is hot, but the first time I use it each day it the orange light proves elusive. I have went to setting it next to a little space heater or hitting it with my girlfriend's blow dryer for a bit before even trying to click it. If not I will end up clicking it way too many times without starting.
I have been using Xikar butane for the last month or so. It is the best they have at the local cigar store. Before that I was using the dreaded Ronson b. Still love my iolite, still thinking about getting the updated version.
One more thing, I posted a couple pages back about my iolite mouthpiece breaking soon after purchase. I was literally taking the little mouthpiece segments and fitting them onto the threads. Yuck. Finally invested in some new extended mouthpieces from Vaporstore. My year old iolite has been reborn. The taste from the iolite might best be described as a "scrumptious green". Now I am actually interested when I hear about killers strains around

The MFLB does generally over toast or should I say unevenly cook my "product" too.

Typically due to user error being that there are TONS of users who don't over toast or end up with an uneven cook.

Hey all, noob question here. Got my iolite yesterday. Got some triple refined butane at a local smoke store, the vector is on the way from amazon.com. Loaded up some kush yesterday, hoping for a killer high. Instead, I got nothing. Like no high at all. I let it heat up through several cycles and everything. I can taste he vape, just never see ANY vapor at all when I breathe out or ever feel anything really. Saw vap (a lot) when my girlfriend hit it once, but that's it. I know I have got to be doing something wrong. Could it be the fuel? When I use my bong, the kush hits like normal, iolite, nothing. Any help is much appreciated.

How fine did you grind your kush? How much did you use?

Not too fine. Grinder I have sucks and is cheap. Packed the bowl full, but not too tight. Been trying to read all over he board for tips, hope I'm not one of the ones who say vapo never works.

Guess I should add my last "hit" this morning consisted mainly of shake from the bottom of the grinder. So that's pretty fine.

Bam,

Grind fine - a quality 2 pc grinder helps - fill loosely, draw ssslllloooooowwwww and make sure your herb is dry.

chucku,
my ioilite has just arrrived.

its got me pretty baked on the two occasions i've used it.
i'm very pleased and impressed with it.

not sure many pulls i should get off a half fill? how long should it last? i take slow 15-20 secs draws and repeat for about half hour by which time i assume my herb must be spent. i am getting quite nicely toasted and am pleased by the results.

how do you know if/when you are overdoing your mix i.e you've had the best out of your herbs and you need to refill it?

my "spent" herb looks brown and goes dusty when crumbled is this just waste?

like i say i am very pleased with the results just wondering if i can be more efficient when using this beauty? this is the first vaporiser i've owned so a few expert pointers would be well appreciated.

;)

Thinkb I'm getting the hang of it. Just have to be patient with this thing. Not surehow much I'm saving with it. Smoke for about 20-30 minutes, then its out. High is still strange, not as good as bong I don't think. Seems to be very short high too.

I live @ Sea level and I'm thinking about trying to take my Iolite up for some snowboarding but I was just wondering if the elevation could prove troublesome.

Does anyone live at elevation or use there unit regularly at a higher elevation?

Luvnthevapor-
This is the same problem I have been experiencing with my Iolite, and what has prompted me to find a new (faster, more reliable) portable. I have started storing my Iolite beneath my wireless router, it stays warm there. I never have a problem igniting when the outside temp is above 60 degrees, but a cold start is almost impossible. I have followed many instructions from Iolite and here. I have purged the valve, refilled, purged etc. I only use hq butane. I still like the quality delivery the Iolite provides but it has become temperamental with the onset of winter weather. I never broke a mouthpiece in the 10 months I have owned it so I consider myself very lucky! I also have three herb chambers in rotation which I carry pre packed when I take my Iolite on the road. Thanks to everyone that has added their valuable input to this site!

Hi - my Iolite arrived a couple of days ago. I've enjoyed reading this thread since I became aware of its existence. Thanks to all for their stories. You'll forgive me if I add mine.

I've been using a pipe for longer than I care to remember (an Agent Blue), so I'm not sure why I've waited until now to pick up my first vape - despite both being aware of them for a while and being concerned about the health risks my drug of choice involves.

The Agent Blue has been my constant companion for years. I'm shamed but also a bit proud to admit it's probably my oldest possession. I can't believe I haven't lost it. It's been temporarily lost on many occasions, but each time it returns. Friends will turn up having discovered it down the back of their sofa.. "guess what I've found mate". It was going to take a lot to retire it, but I'm nearly 35 now and like many nearly 35 year olds I'm overly concerned with my longevity. Smoking, even without tobacco, had to stop.

So I started researching vapes. First and foremost I needed portability - I often will have a quick toke in the car before I often go for a swim, whilst out walking etc. The agent blue was perfect for that. My research of portable vapes brought me here, and eventually the Iolite was ordered.

It was smaller than I'd expected, packaged really well with a neat carry case and a well produced little manual. I'd say there's a bit of a learning curve for the first time vapist: the butune, the grinding, the inhale, but by the end of the second day of ownership, I was well and truly battered. To people struggling to get high, I say pack it loose and fine, let it warm up 2/3 mins whilst keeping finger on the mouthpiece to preserve the vapour. Then draw long and deep, with a long hold. Repeat 4 or 5 times. There's no way you're not feeling that.

One of the big things I remember reading a lot of in this thread was the lack of smell when vaping - that it was a stealthy alternative that could potentially be used discreetly in public. Talk of vaping in the cinema, whilst out for dinner etc, with nothing more than a popcorn-esque essence as a bi-product. Who wouldn't love to be able to get stoned without anybody knowing. Problem is, in my experience the vape you exhale positively reaks of pure ganja! For sure, it's slightly warmed up, richer, more toasty - I get the popcorn reference, but there's no mistaking it for anything other than weed. However the odour doesn't travel so much as with smoke, and for sure the odour disperses much more quickly and doesn't hang on your clothing. It's a lot better, but at that moment you exhale - anybody near you would catch it.

In terms of convenience and portability, the negatives when compared with the pipe are outweighed by the health benefits. You need to pre-prep it before venturing out, which is often not a problem but it's something you have to remember to do. You need to be a well organised vape wizard to refill on the go. I find ground product is susceptible to spillage, especially if you've got your hands full with different vape parts.

Thanks to all who posted their thoughts here. Next up for me is the full time home vape...

Been here since 2009
There is a learning curve, however i think it's a small curve. I think it is RIDICULOUS that people say you can vape anywhere without detection. While it does not smell like combusted material, it CERTAINLY stinks.

I can't figure out why people have claimed that they vape in class, movie theaters, restaurants, etc. You are just asking to be busted. I take great precautions not to use the device anywhere near people just as you would if combusting. This goes for your vehicle and clothing, as the smell will cling and linger.

The iolite's hissing is too loud for a classroom, unless it's a college class in an auditorium where people are spread out. I think it's dumb to use in a class for a different reason. You're there to absorb information, not space out. The same goes for a movie theater- if people are nearby, the noise and smell makes it too risky. But I've used the iolite in sparsely populated theaters quite a few times. With some distance between the iolite and other people, there's really nothing to worry about. Naturally it's wise to avoid exhaling big vapor clouds, but that's easy to do with this model. I've never used it in a restaurant, but I've been in some that were big and noisy enough for some stealthy hits.

The LB can be safely used in situations where it would be foolish to use an iolite. Between taking small hits and holding your vapor, it's easily the stealthiest vape you can use. I recently used mine in a crowded movie theater, sitting between my wife and a friend, and neither one noticed that I was using it. You do have to use some common sense, and always play it safe when in doubt, but to say that people are going to smell vapor on your clothing and recognize it as mj use is being a little paranoid IMO. I don't smoke cigarettes anymore, and I have a nose for cig smoke and odor, but I have to get pretty close to a smoker to smell any lingering odor on them.

I live at 5,000 foot elevation, and my iolite works fine... but... it is difficult to light... and the cold weather makes it even more difficult. I always warm it up against my body, first.

This is true of any butane (or propane) powered device, though.

Cool thanks for the info, I thought I had read that higher elevations can cause problems but it sounds like it's at least usable once you get it going assuming you can keep it warm also.

Most ski resorts are probably above 7,500 feet. I'm not sure how a 50% increase in elevation (from where I live) will affect it.

I know that most butane and propane stoves need special venturi nozzles for that altitude to work.

Anyone familiar with what looks like an electrified version of the Iolite?

It is the Zico I-torch Portable Vaporizer:
http://www.amazon.com/Zico-I-torch-Portable-Vaporizer/dp/B004BUX8MM/ref=pd_sxp_f_pt

I saw some close up photos and everything about the device screams Iolite but it is a knockoff right down to the tools and accessories.

I love my IO but the butane / starting issues can be frustrating at times.

Pretty neat I must say, if it has the same catalytic system that Iolite has it would be pretty great! I had the unfortunate experience of bringing my Iolite out in the cold weather over the weekend to a friends house. It was never below 60 degrees at any time on the ride over but, I could not get it to start no matter what I tried. Thank god I just perfected my technique for my MFLB. I like my Iolite a lot, but I will only use it in my house now where I can keep it warm.

Can't believe all of the vapes that are hitting the market! I love the future! :D

Could also have been an elevation issue. Iolite does not like cold weather, nor does it like high altitude. I eventually got rid of my iolite because of altitude issues. Now that electric one looks interesting because it wont have the same issues with altitude as the iolite

Not sure,

Wanna buy a bridge? The heaters in any vape we use do not get hot enough to pose any threat. And only in the crappiest, most poorly constructed fans. But if you really want a bridge I got one for you.
