Inflammatory response with vaping?

Hey all--when we smoke, our body responds with inflammation to fight the toxins/foreign substances. A.k.a. 'acute bronchitis'.

I've realized this is the source of most if not all of the discomfort I feel due to smoking. I've been slowly switching to vaping (more slowly than I would have liked...too many close friends who don't like vaping), and I'm curious about the body's response to vaping.

I imagine there is still an inflammatory response, but is it moderated due to the less harsh nature of vapor/lower amount of toxins/long-chain hydrocarbons (tars)?

I realize there probably hasn't been a study done on this, but anecdotal evidence works too. Obviously vaping is much easier on the body, but I'm specifically looking for information about this.

Thanks all.

One of the beauties of vapourizing is that you can have some control over its effects by choosing the temperature you use. See the Vaporpedia article Vaporizing Effects by Temperature. Note that there are anti-inflammatories released at several temperatures. On the flip side, the inflammatory effects of smoke come mostly from carbon dioxide, which is not released by vapourization. Moral of the story: don't give in to peer pressure, fuck combustion!

Yes, fuck combustion! if they are close friends they should be compassionate and understand , and if you havent actually TRIED to show the non-believers, kindly do so ;)

When I smoke I feel very ill, usually for a few days before i start getting back to "normal". As you may have guessed, I havent smoked in quite a while now. I love my vapor! and the glass isnt getting neglected either :science:
but i dont just get a bad pressure in my chest and a horrible sore throat from the smoke, but overall my body gets very stressed , and i feel real sick for at least a couple day after that in a different kind of way.
Thats been my experience with it. I used to smoke very often, and back then I never even though i would convert to vaporizing and give up smoking, even when i got my first vape and started to use it between smoking, the thought never crossed my mind.

I cant do dry vaping anymore either, just a little too harsh for me to take hits to my liking comfortably. The glass is really fun though. the little headford inline bubbler is my favorite of what i have now;)
Plus the water gets those super tiny particulates from the herb, which can be irritating to some people.

Smoke never caused chest or throat problems for me but I did get some sinus inflammation immediately after smoking, which doesn't happen at all with vapor.

Old guy, so I have tried almost every imaginable delivery method over the years. ( "just say no" to cannabis suppositories!) While I have vaped before it wasn't my normal method. Fast forward to now and getting a Persie oil vaporizer.

You can pull a huge honking cloud of vap with a Persie in 6 seconds. And so I did. Or I can pull 3 seconds; wait 3, then repeat. The second method gives me no inflammation at all.

Great Scott!
Who cares if they don't like vaping? Get a portable :)

I started off as the first vaporizer user in my group of friends and for that matter anyone I knew in town. Now every single one of my friends who combusted now vape at least 85% of the time. They all hated it at first and said it was crazy. Even if they don't come around get a portable. When they pass the joint just explain you prefer vapor but thanks for the offer. Take a few hits off your own vape and still enjoy a social experience by being there consuming cannabis with your friends.

I have allergies. Sometimes when I would vape a very strong OG at 375F and beyond (Digital Volcano), my nasal passages would swell up. There were some nights where I couldn't even breathe through my nose at all by the time I was going to sleep. I am guessing it's my body's response to something like limonene or other terpenes in the vapor along with the drying effect of the vapor itself. These negative effects are probably diminished at lower temperatures. Even running at 365 vs. 375 makes a major difference in what I get out of it (my buddies prefer it higher than myself).

Nyc, I've gone on a campaign to convert my combusting friends, but I'm not a combuster-hater. I bake out side-by-side, as darkrom eloquently suggests. I'm paying it forward, as I'd still be combusting if it weren't for a guy I met at a party who took the time to teach me the proper way to vape and informed me of the health benefits. I also love my little headford trip doughnut layback inline, hits like a champ, super smooth.

I'm an avid endurance athlete, and vaporizing has improved the quality of my training.

Edit: I'm high right now, by the way, as my post may indicate :freak:

I got paid to kill people.
@ NYC, I think that dry vaping induces some sort of strong inflammatory response in some people. A long Volcano session dries out my sinuses in an extreme way. The cottonmouth I get from vaping is worse than that induced by other methods of getting high. Hope that makes sense (I'm high right now lol).

Hi, Polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons ar byproducts of combustion that are thought to be a major culprit in smoking-related cancers. Vaporization prevents them to be formed. Vaporization generates far less carbon monoxid. However, THC which is a major constituent of the total, is irritating for the lungs.

I do not know what happens for solid-particles.

Yup, I just thank them for the kindness and hit my vape. Sometimes, very rarely, I'll be in the mood to actually smoke, at which point it's just the stuff I'm getting.

I have allergies and I love to blow vapor out through my nose because shortly thereafter the sinuses open up, drain, and I can breath normally for several hours afterwards. Its great!

In my case the inflammatory response from vaporizing is stronger than with smoking a joint with activated carbon filter. Especially when I keep the vapor in my airways for a long time and inhale deeply (I didn't inhale joints deeply). That may be partly due to small plant particles entering the airways when vaporizing without waterfilter. But it also happens with the cheap waterfilter I have.
Though my airways are damaged from many years of smoking cigarettes and weed, so they can't easily clean themselves as they're supposed too. This of course increases the inflammatory response. And maybe when the body gets used to it the inflammatory response will decrease.

At which temperatures do you vape? I also have that effect when I start vaping a fresh load. But especially when I go over 195/200° it will have the opposite effect: the sinuses swell and feel clogged up, letting less air pass through.

How do I get the stone/couch-lock effect without this annoyance?

I vape at 365*F-375*F approx . . . depending on many factors but once I drain my sinuses then I'm good for a while. :peace:
