What's up FC, I do a lot of lurking but this is my first real post here, here's the situation:

I've been living in a college dorm for almost a year now and have been getting great use out of my davinci vaporizer. Next year though I'm moving into an apartment and I'm looking to upgrade to a desktop vape.

Here's what I'm looking for
  • Temperature control is huge, sometimes I low temp vape and other time I want clouds. Digital is preferred (the davinci spoiled me).
  • I want to keep the price under $400.
  • Long lasting (especially if I shell out $400)
  • Whip and bag delivery (edit: except the 7th floor products because they look amazing)
  • Something easy to use is also preferred
  • I want to be able to get the most out of my herb as well
I've already started looking a little and here's some vapes I've found, I mostly want help picking between these but if your favorite isn't here shout it out.

vivape-vaporizer-white-vaporfection.jpg

The Vaporfection viVape 2: http://vaporfection.com/products/vivape/
I like that it looks like an apple product because that makes me thing it's fast, easy, and long lasting (sorry pc people). (edit: not really considering this one anymore)

multiple%20functionality.gif

The Herbalaire: http://www.herbalaire.com/shop.htm
This one just looks insane and fancy and multiple bags going would be great for having friends over.

VAPORMATIC.jpg

The Vapormatic: http://www.vaporizergiant.com/vapormatic_vaporizer.html#.UQgxfUpU4Zd
I don't have high hopes that this one will get the most positive response, I just love the way it looks. (edit: not really considering this one anymore either)

aroma-arizer-extreme-q-heater.jpg

The Arizer Q: http://arizer.com/store/en/extreme-heater/21-aroma-arizer-extreme-q-heater.html
I was just going to get this until I found out it wasn't the only combo vape on the market. I've used one and loved it but I didn't want to buy it and miss out on a better desktop.

ssvdbv.jpg

SSV and/or Da Buddha: http://silversurfervap.com/silver-s...er-series/create-your-own-wave-rider-ssv.html
http://dabuddhavaporizer.com/da-buddha-vaporizer-1.html
I'm in love with the glass attachments and the customization and they seem reliable but the lack of a bag attachment is a huge turn off and I'm not sure where the extra money is going for the SSV, also how easy is temperature control on these?. Thank you to Stu for showing me these.

Anyway thanks for helping me pick this out, I'm sure you guys understand how big this decision is.

Welcome to FC

Seems like the herbalaire and EQ are the best of your picks. Vivape is really noisy

There is a lot more machines, you can have a look on youtube and read the topics/wiki

Vaporfection is going out of business (bad rep around here, have a look at their thread) and vapormatic is not a worthwhile investment IMO. The herbalaire and the Arizer Q are highly rated around here. As Rogers has mentioned, the info is here on the site, so I would recommend reading through some of the devices threads to get a feel for the landscape.

If you're not 100% set on a bag setup, you may want to consider the 7th Floor products (SSV, LSV, DBV) as they are solid units that last. Of the ones you listed I'd go with the EQ, but only because I've never tried the Herbalaire. If you're clumsy (glass breaks, you know) then you might want to consider the HA over the EQ.

I've never heard anyone speak ill of 7th floor, but I'm not really sure what to make of the LSV and it looks to me like the only real differences between the SSV and Da Buddha are a few bells and whistles.

How does the vapor quality compare in a whip? I've only ever had bags from my homemade heat gun vape and a friend's arizer extreme q but the vapor from them is so nice and dense and cool, is a whip like that too?

Also I've been looking at these custom SSV's and they're absolutely beautiful.

The LSV is best for vaporizing trough glass, the freshest way to experience vaping

Bags and whips can get boring and they kind of dull the taste when not changed and cleaned really often

Depends on how you use the herbs, both are good but its a matter of preferences after all

The EQ was my first vaporizer, and I thought I would use the bags 100% of the time. I quickly discovered that the whip was a better delivery option for me, so I almost never used the bags. The whip was just far more convenient and tasty. Adding a water tool to the setup was a game change, too. Now I almost never vape without water.

Good luck in making the best choice for you.

What about the glass attachments for the SSV and DB?

I've been looking at all of the SSV stuff for a while and I think I'm going to add it to the list, this glass is beautiful and they seem pretty reliable.

Whips are different from bags, since you draw through a plastic or silicon tube. Herbalaire and extreme q do both. The best temp control is the volcano, bit it only does bags and a new one is beyond your budget. In your position i would indeed look at da buddha, lsv and ssv as heavy hitters. No bags, though. You control the temp with a dial and your breathing technique. Those 3 all use the same heating element and ssv and dbv are very similar. The lsv is a little different style, more of a handheld deal. Few people regret buying any of those and they have a long track record. Dbv is the cheapest. Within your budget you could get any one of those, plus an arizer solo, which is like a portable on steroids. With the solo you draw directly through the stem and it has 7 temp settings. The solo's flavor is among the best imo.

My friend has a solo and I like it but I'm not crazy about the size, the davinci suited my needs a lot better and I like that it's discreet I will admit the taste isn't as good in the davinci. (also so excited for the ascent).

So would a whip vape be like a solo on steroids? My first vape was a vapor genie so I'm pretty good at drawing vapes the right way but would the learning curve be hard for my guests?

My SSV is always my go to for really fat rips. The ones that punch you in the face sort of deal :spliff: Not hard to learn at all, unless your guests are completely new to the game, and even then it is not that difficult.

Id have to recommend the EQ i bought it when it came out and only had to replace the screens every 4 months. Not to much of a learning curve and produces big hits.

I see that you have a volcano and an SSV, which one do you usually use when it's just you and a couple friends?

What do you want in a desktop that you cant find in the DaVinci?

Pros of the DBV/SSV:

- Great taste ( better on the LSV due to no whip)
- easy to setup (plug it in and in 2min you're vaping)
- lack of things that could go wrong in the system due to its simplicity

Cons:

- Glass breaks
- If you get a DBV it has a GonG wand that sometimes flies out so i usually keep it in my hand and pass the wand+whip around with friends
- can be a bit glutonous with your herb due to a big bowl

This is of the top of my head.

The LSV has better taste and its easier to setup with a bong, but it has no way to stand which can be annoying sometimes.

The Solo is a portable that likes to stay cozy inside someones house, whether it is yours or a friends. I use mine all the time.

Due to the need of saving my herb i used my DBV ocasionaly for some weekend heavy fogging but i end up using my solo a lot more because it is more pratical to setup and use just about anywhere.
Since you have the DaVinci there could be a bit overlapse in usage patterns between these units but they are as different as they are alike IMO.

About what you said regarding the difference between the LSV and the SSV/DBV being a few bell and whistles.. in a way its true, since they use the same electronics and heating element but the different casing, coupled with the no whip and the all glass setup make it a very different vaporizer in terms of usage and strengths IMO.

Between the Herbalaire and the EQ, i would go for the HA.. the bags would be used sparingly most likely and it is a durable and versatile unit. It is better than the 7th floor units because it has real temperature control, meaning it has a temperature sensor that reads the current value and acts accordingly and it is a bit more efficient than the DBV/SSV but it lacks the taste that is present in 7th floor products because it has a little more conduction going on which allows for the herb to toast a bit on the outside hindering flavour.

Also what do you mean by easier to use? In terms of learning curve? or in terms of unpack it, set up, heat up, vape, put away?

One other thing, how often will you use it with friends and how important is it for them to use it well? It might be a bit selfish about this but i don't believe in buying vaporizers with friends in mind since it is a lot of $$ in stake IMO.

When it's me and a couple of friends, I usually pull out my Solo as it is easier to pass around the couch. But if I really want to wreck them, I use my Silver Surfer every time. It just punches hard IMO.

Well the whole point of buying a desktop is smoking with people or on the couch because like you said I can use the davinci pretty efficiently by myself. And I meant easier to use in terms of unpack, set up, clean, maintain, put away, all of that, vapes tend to be less user friendly than pipes and such, at least in my opinion.

The HA is looking better than the Arizer Q in terms of one with a bag, it's a bit more pricey but buying vapes are investing in smiles soo....

Well, i would choose the the LSV + WPA + beaker would be great for smiles and giggles with friends and also to relax watching a movie. With the wand it is not as good since the glass wand would leave me a little nervous, but still more pratical to pass around than the whip models.

Of course, the SSV is better on a table because of the stable base.

Setting it up would be about the same between these two. Can't say about the HA or the EQ since i never used one so i don't know the necessary steps.

One thing about 7th floor products that might be usefull to know is that the power cord is huge, which is a better thing in the LSV than the SSV/DBV since it can be passed around in larger groups without worrying about not reaching someone.

What Tweek said about the difference between a Solo and an SSV is pretty much how i feel between these two.

I still think you should get an heavy hitter first just because it covers more than a Solo considering you got the DaVinci.

I would have never imagined people used portables in the house so much, I'm hoping the ascent renders all other portables obsolete, if not I'll look into the solo after I get my desktop. I'm torn between the SSV/DBV/LSV and the HA. It seems like the consensus is the HA is the best combo?

I didn't imagine an SSV would be too hard to pass.

Does that help?

The Solo is not your conventional portable with stealth in mind. That coupled with great construction, good convection process allowing for a nice taste and an even roasting and a great battery life.. it is pretty hard to beat.
I wouldn't hope the ascent to render every other obsolete.. every vaporizer has a specific set of characteristics that make it ideal for one situation or another, and that also depends largely on your own expectations and usage patterns.

I have 4 portables, one is all glass and works with a torch light and i love it for the taste and simplicity. the other is a wood pipe and works with any lighter and it was my first and is my all-else-fails backup. I have one that is extra stealth and small. And i have one that is not stealth or small but it is easy to carry and hits like many desktop units. The only one i would sell right now is the MFLB because i really stopped using vaporizers in places where stealth is needed.
On top of these i have a heavy hitter (DBV) that is now loaned to a recent converted friend, and a log vaporizer as well which gives me about the same experience than the solo in terms of high and is yet even more conservative than my solo.

The SSV is not hard to pass around.. i'm talking relatively to others. But yeah, that is a good add-on for the SSV. I misread something earlier in your post.. the differences between the SSV and DBV are not just cosmetic: the heat cover of the SSV has a smaller air intake hole (which allows for a better taste since there is less air in the vapour) and the union with the wand is not gong (you can get gong if you like also) which allows for you to roll the wand to provide a more even roasting. The tilted design is also to prevent the spill of herbs into the element. I never had this happen on DBV except once because i knocked it accidentaly but still, it is a better design.

About the HA being the best combo.. between those 4 i would be more indecisive between the SSV and the LSV but i think it would be best if a user who owned the HA and one of the 7th floor vaporizers gave some insights on the potential flaws and strenghts of each design.

Another suggestion i do is to read a bit on the threads of each vaporizer you're interested to understand a bit more about them, and see some videos of them too.

+1 for the LSV... I love using my glass and the LSV is made for it...Pairs beautifully with water pipes. The LSV has an all glass vapor path which is an advantage the whip vapes don't have. Excellent flavor and epic clouds! If you want a whip you can buy the attachment that is made for the LSV...not sure why someone would though.

LSV + WPA+ water pipe = stony days with no regrets

Aside from ergomonics the two differ at the heater cover/wand connections. The SSV (standard setup) provides a narrower stream of hot air into the bowl, providing thicker hits. It requires some movement of the wand to expose more the bowl contents to the hot air stream, and your hits will vary some. DBV hits are more consistent and predictable.

The HA is looking better than the Arizer Q in terms of one with a bag, it's a bit more pricey but buying vapes are investing in smiles soo....
Actually they run about the same price. It just comes down to which you prefer.

Supersniffer 2000 - robot fart detection device
DBV has an new oil setup :p .. Might wanna check it out.. concentrates are always fun ..
Just wanna mention that i paid at least twice more as DBV costs for replacement parts.. but that is just my bad luck :).
http://dabuddhavaporizer.com/dbv-accessories/dbv-accessories/flavor-oil-vapor-kit.html
If you looking for a longlasting with less need of replacing parts.. you might wanna look into new line of log vapes that have treads on FC ;) .. My daily driver is UD since i got one..
And if it is HA vs EQ then i would probably get the HA cuz EQ has more glass breaking issues :)
