Huni Badger Pro

Right after buying a HB off of the Zee sale I noticed they have a page up about the upcoming Huni Badger Pro... got me wondering if I should cancel that order....

What's different so far:
  • Touch activated LED screen
  • Shortened air path with claimed better sealing
  • USB-C passthrough charging
  • Updated HBPro tip (one tip for everything)
    • 3 heat settings

It seems like it'll still feature swappable batteries but doesn't address that directly, but the multiple heat settings is really what's got me interested and thinking of canceling the HB order... hopefully the top is the same and no adapters need to be purchased.

Maybe i should just get myself a press and get on with it... It'll be the first dab-device on my list!

Webpages added, $250 price point which is less than I expected but still not cheap. Having used the original HB it is a solid (read: heavy) unit with a metal body so it feels quite durable and may help to justify the price point.

Well... I dropped my OG huni badger into the toilet while trying to do a stealth session and broke my only hi temp tip in addition to submerging the device with 18650 in the water 🤢. Sooooooo I have one of these pro units out for delivery today and will be able to provide some feedback in the coming days!

Luckily the 18650 I pulled with a safety glove (it popped out of the unit and was a big short concern) and got it all dried off before placing it on a soft jet of air for a few hours. It seems totally fine on visual inspection but I won't be trying to do anything but dispose at the local battery store on that one!

Thankfully I had not put my honeybird delux on the badger before I knocked it over so I still have that expensive piece safe.

While on the subject, does anyone have the 710sciglass bullet bubbler and the honeybird delux? I was curious which people like more. I love the deluxe on the badger but it seems more people have the bullet.

Quick update... I've been using the HB Pro for a little over a week and have to say the medium setting is just about perfect. It doesn't make a mess like the low temp tip could on the og Badger, and doesn't burn the crap out of the concentrate so you get a solid hit of flavor smashing into your tastebuds.

The device is slightly larger, but is significantly lighter. I think the thickness

I fucking hate the capacitive button and think they made a huge mistake replacing a mechanical button with it, however I think that was done to further improve the seals and protect the internals from vapor deposits. It's supposed to be 5 presses to turn it on, however I did do a video or two showing it can take anywhere from 5 to 18 taps before it turns on. Once it's on, it's very responsive, however! I still don't like the lack of haptic or tactile feedback though because it's really easy when you put the cap on between cycles to accidentally brush your finger over the HB logo and initiate a new heat cycle. I think this is dangerous for many reasons but I'm also concerned over the high potential for it running on high accidentally inside the cap and causing damage to the internals.

Speaking of, I dunno if the other colors are the same (I assume they are) but this thing gets way hotter way faster and stays hotter for longer than the OG Huni Badger in my experience. The same number of sessions (2-3 back to back) on medium on the Pro and the device gets too hot to handle for a few minutes. My OG on the high temp temp I can do 3 and it gets warm but never so hot I need to put it down.

The screen is nice, though, and it's definitely convenient to have a battery level indicator over the OG so I don't have to mentally track heat cycles to know when it's time to recharge.

I'm unsure if the heat is a factor for this point, but the magnets in the cap also have come out and stay stuck to the main HB Pro unit from time to time which I was planning to add some adhesive and reseat in the cap until it died on me (see below).

I tried the low and high settings only once and they were alright, but I've been completely dialed in with the medium setting... it's just perfect. It's nice if you do low or medium to be able to turn it to high to burn off residue and clean the device which you couldn't do using the low temp tip on the OG.

I have some pictures and videos to upload comparing the OG to the Pro as well as how stupid it is to turn on which I'll try to upload sometime this week.

RIGHT NOW, THOUGH, I am working on getting it packed and shipped to Huni Badger for repair because I unscrewed the tip to clean the air path with an ISO dipped pipe cleaner as I normally do (and the instructions and after screwing the tip back in also state) and after screwing the tip back in it won't heat up and says "CHECK TIP" during the preheat cycle before turning off. I tried the other tip that was included and it was the same problem. There's a slight residual electrical burning smell that I pick up near the tip and I see almost every review related to the HB ProTip on their site is talking about this error, so I imagine there is some defect in these units. It's pretty damn annoying, I have to say, for this to happen after a week.

I sent an email asking for some explanation and if there is a known issue and the reply ignored all my questions and just said to send it in (at my cost... a 2 week old device!) and they will have to either replace the internals or replace the device. I gather from that response that the issue is definitely on the HB Pro unit internals vs the tips themselves having issues and it's got to be something they are aware of but not publicly acknowledging.

Right now I will say I DON'T recommend this device unless you really, really, really want that medium temp setting. I'm glad I have it for that exact reason, but for me they just needed to take the OG badger and add the low/medium/high temp modes (or just add a dang medium temp tip).
