How often do they break?

My vaporiser is on it's way in the mail now. Arizer Extreme Q (very excited)
I see a lot of people talking about backup vapes or having to send them back, cracked glass, etc etc

Is a portable vape more reliable than a plug-in one, and is a plug-in vape likely to last a lifetime if i'm just using it once a night for dried plants, leaves and stuff? (Damiana, mugwort, rosemary, blue lily.. etc)
Granted that I don't drop it, mistreat it or mess around with it; are these expensive vapes generally reliable or am I going to expect to have to order a replacement eventually?

Thanks guys & girls

Congrats on the purchase! Quite a few people have an EQ in their collection.

I'm probably not the best to attest to this, since I only got back into vaping this year. I have a box vape I got from my LHS about 5 years ago, and it still works. But I've had to replace the whip twice (cracked glass that connected to the vape).

Portable vapes are certainly not more reliable than home vapes in most cases. I have a Davinci Ascent which I used nonstop for a month right around 4 weeks of use, it stopped working (heater wouldn't heat). Caused by a wire running through the hinge coming lose. Fortunately Davinci has awesome customer service and replaced the unit with a new one which is still going strong. But it's been replaced by my new vape - the Lotus - as my daily driver.

Coincidentally, the Lotus is also a portable vape, but it too failed after 5 weeks of use! Well, it didn't fail, but the soft nickle heat plate was cracking - a design flaw, but the unit still worked - just got a hot twice as fast as previously, easy to work around while I waited for a replacement.

I think you'll find people have more than 1 vape for several reasons on this site:
1) Different vapes work differently, sometimes you're in the mood for one, sometimes you're in the mood for another. My Lotus is efficient - I can finish an entire session in under 3 minutes. My Ascent is much slower - sessions usually last 30 minutes. They both medicate, but differently, one is a full on rush, the other can be tailored by taste.

2) Some vapes work better with different material. Some are better for concentrates, some are better for dried herbs. Some vapes even work with nuggets (no grinding necessary! I'm buying one of these as my third vape)

3) For different occasions - the EQ might be good for the house, but it's not exactly portable. It's also not as easy to carry outside in the backyard. Other vapes are good for solo sessions. Some are great party vapes for a group. You'll need to learn what you do and don't like.

4) I think most of us can relate - Once you've given up combusting for several weeks, you'll never want to combust again! I simply cannot handle the hideous taste of that nasty yellow smoke unless I have to (social event with no vaporizers available) :puke:.

I think most problems are with portable vapes currently, I don't seem to hear anyone complain about their plugin vape's reliability, at least in my short time on this site.

That said, you have an awesome home vape. But when your VAS kicks in and you feel the need for a backup/spare vape. I suggest the Airizer Solo - it's got quite a huge following on this site. I really regret not buying that as my first portable vape. (It looks ugly, I know, but the solo is an awesome device)

Haha, that's great to read. I won't be needing a backup because it isn't for smoking weed. It's just for other herbs, so I won't be getting a compulsion to use a vape if anything happens to it. Maybe when I'm in my 50's with a few acres of legal medical-strain plantations i'll consider a few backup vapes ;)

Very good news though, thanks for your answer. I'll be treating it with great care and respect so I don't think any cracks will appear.
