History of Log Vapes?

Since I got interested in vaping, I had always heard about "logs," but always thought it was extremely difficult to find good information.

Fast forward a couple years and I am a VERY SATISFIED owner of an Underdog, my daily driver.

Still curious if anyone knows more about these styles of vapes.

Was the Purple Days the first?

How long have they been around?

Why have they always remained more of a cottage industry?

What are the significant design features that have evolved through time?

How are so many manufacturers able to carve out tiny little shares of a relatively small market?

Just kind of curious to know more about this style of vaporizer.

Here is a pic of a first gen HI next to the Eterra btw. I searched w/o success for a post I thought Alan had made which linked to a site with the original Eterra and a battery pack.

To go back to the some of the roots, search for terms such as "Bob," "Eterra," "patent," "log," "Flash Evaporator." www.flashevap.com gets you directly to the source, with some buried historical references. Definitely, check out http://www.flashevap.com/history.htm. The Lightwell Web site seems like its ancient and from an Eterra vendor.

Yes the flashevap might be the site I had in mind. I've certainly scanned it before - various interesting, buried pages.

Tobacco vaporizers have been around for centuries, they're called hookas.

There's two main types, syrian and egyptian. I'm not sure that I buy the monsanto-inspired story. It sounds good, but I think that it's more likely that the good doctor traveled to an exotic locale, and decided to improve on traditional charcoal hookas by using "electrically heated air":

Charcoal hookas still sell very well, but the "flash evaporator" seems to be history.

I own an original 5 led Flash Evaporator (non operational ), an Eterra and a silver plated Omega Ultralight all from the same inventor at the flashevap.com website. The new tech coming out now is great, but these fully convection units were ahead of their time.
