Just read a really good article about a recent update from Google that caused Hightimes.com, herb.co, and other cannabis websites to lose a massive amount of the majority of their organic traffic.

They must have tried to game Google with buying links from other websites. The more links the more power to rank against those with less links. Google must have manually reviewed them and discovered unnatural links from low qualiy thin websites and penalized them. You dont try gaming Google no mater who you are because if Google finds out they will punish with a lost of traffic.
