plug it into a power bar, then tape the button down on the hi, use the switch on the power bar to turn it on and off.

nice jury-rigging, i'll try it.

I certainly wasn't going to buy another vape until the Cloud, but this has me interested! I imagine that tip is dangerously hot. I would want to use this in my bedroom, as long as their is no danger in burning down my house or anything...

Tstat,
Is this basically a Hakko with a nicer frame?

The glass vape attachment looks legit.

I too was going to wait for the cloud but this could be fun.

Mo Dynamico,
so i got mine in the mail today

heats up pretty quickly

depending on what bowl you use it greatly affects the bowl temp and how long you need to hold the button

still "fine tuning"

so far i like it

Just recieved mine a few days ago.

its so awesome compared to most things Ive had so far.

I've got a whole collection of "retired" glass bubbler's and hand pipes that I can use now since I can now use them as vape utensils.

as someone already said a bowl that hold the screen in is so usefull.

Used right this thing gives thicker vape-bonging than my EQ and HA.

With the herb iron you really need to perfect user techniques.

For 100 usd ( HI + vape attachment) plus what ever glass piece you decide to use (some may already have one) you cant get more glass path for the money spent then anything else ive looked at so far.

here is what I consider a full blown vape for 200 dollar range:

Buy Glass water pipe from Grasscity.com when they have a 30% off sale will land you a 100 dollar piece that has multi-points of water filteration (I picked up WS 12arm 22" 5mm for 99usd :o )
add this to the 100usd spent at herb iron.com for iron+vape and there you have it.... the glassiest vape with water all for 200usd.

Remember to spit shine when necessary :brow:

Just bought this. In concept the vapor attachment is sound...however the glass attachment does not stay on the iron as good as DBV or the like. It wiggles about, and while you can adjust it...it just has the feel of something not very well designed for the iron.

The metal holding the glass should be purposefully made, rather than a piece of thin metal bent and slid on arbitrarily. The diameter of the base relative to the glass is too much, such that the glass, bent metal, and iron do not make a stable attachment.

Insuring a solid connection that doesn't move around should guarantee satisfaction with this product. Until then...

Tanuvan,
Great feedback, not to mention laying a big misconception of mine to rest. Interesting my LSV is somewhat like that - but the wiggle is not something that I am uncomfortable with nor can I remember too many readings in the LSV forum about 7th Floor's quality in terms of metal bumper and glass diameter consistency and this influence on 'wiggle'. I had such high expectation that the herb iron could have hit this great mark being the low price it is; but sure enough it seems as if original speculation presented by Max is true that this vape accessory was almost a second thought. I would like to mate their vape heady or the SSV to the new hakko in the DIY thread.

i have noticed that the glass dome moves just as stated above. I found it not a problem at all once you get the hang of it. I have to say if you cant manage to do any thing except roll a cigarette that you have to use a machine for anyway.... stay away from this thing. Its all about user technique with this one..... Just like a water pipe or hand bowl with crab. Also if your going to use it with a water pipe your inhale timing is going to have to be slow and precise compared to ripping with a lighter or the iron it self.

Agreed 110%. A number of times the glass attachment has actually come off my herb iron. Sometimes after 30+ mins of use. hot glass falling on the ground or on my hand is neither good nor fun.

I have passed it around for hours.... even left the power button taped up to stay on at a party and found it still running the next morning behind a couch :o .

if it falls off you might have a bad one or you caused it to go loose some how.

I really don't see how heat will change metal or glass enough to "fall off".

Is this product comparable to the VR Wand? What are the differences/similarities. Forgive the noob question. Thanks.

I like using this over everything else since when I use it with water pipe i use a gravLABs bowl that has a pinch in it and a glass honey comb. This makes everything glass even the screen.... Unbeatable taste if you ask me. Also if your technique is right you can get vape almost as dense as the densest smoke cloud out of a given water pipe with out the nasty burn of BIC!

I could give a bigger review, but suffice it to say that I think the Herb Iron + Vapor Attachment is a reasonable vaporizing solution. I picked up mine from a great forum member, but even at its full retail price, the H.I.V.A. (yeah, why not) is not a bad proposition. You can use it with a wide number of bowls and pipes, the unit is reasonably well made, and vapor quality is roughly on par with other good vaporizers which make use of a bare stick heating element, most notably the 7th Floor family of the DBV, SSV and LSV. The whole thing is vaguely 7th-Floory actually, down to the shim used to affix the vapor attachment. As a wand type vaporizer which requires careful user regulation of temperature, it's a little similar to the VM2.

For a vaporizing setup that should only cost a smart consumer about 110$ new, I think it deserves a 8/10, provided you have compatible pieces and bowls, and are experienced enough to regulate your own heat.

Salutations CDS,

...suffice it to say that I think the Herb Iron + Vapor Attachment is a reasonable vaporizing solution.

My attention tends to focus on the V.A. part with this particular use in mind (sorry for having no actual illustration of a H. I. glass heat-exchanger + a Hakko 556):

photo.jpg

Above: fully thermostatic - Below: rheostatic only...

Do you think the Vapor Attachment from Herb Iron would fit a temperature-controlled soldering iron such as the Hakko 556??

:ninja:

Perhaps i should visit their web site and search to find if they offer their own selection of "De-Luxe" soldering irons, just in case the Hakko 556 might be one of them...

Hey there Egzo

Do you think the Vapor Attachment from Herb Iron would fit a temperature-controlled soldering iron such as the Hakko 556??

The V.A. attaches using a metal shim which makes a rough connection between the glass and the base around the heating element - identical to the system used in the DBV/LSV/SSV heater covers. If I had a 7th floor vape in my current possession then I'd just check myself if the sizes are right, but that's not the case. Those homemade setups are made with DBV heater covers so it might be as simple as taking one cover off and putting the other one on.

Perhaps i should visit their web site and search to find if they offer their own selection of "De-Luxe" soldering irons, just in case the Hakko might be one of them...

They just have one model in many different colors. It's a 25 watt element with a smaller exposed length than a hakko or iirc the 7th floor elements. It's adequate to the task of providing and retaining heat from what I've seen so far. There's this video of the HI and the Hakko side by side, just to compare the elements visually; of course the Hakko has no temperature control and is blazing hot. Warning: barely relevant combustion video for heating element comparison only.

I don't know how much one of those Hakko builds ends up being, but I think you may be better off going with the HIVA if you're doing a wand vape on the cheap and want to have versatility to vaporize out of (some) combustion bowls. If you have a little more coin, then the VHW is the only way to go.

Yet i'd reply that such feature ain't exactly rocket science these days:

The guys on the video you've submitted have commented about ergonomics and all but that's without a glass heat-exchanger attached. It's still a stimulating document to view, thanks CDS, but although the H. I. offers a nicely carved (ergonomic) handle i'm not really into soldering irons so much! I already use a good vaporizer, i simply wish to point that an H. I. equipped like a Hakko might seem like some economic alternative to the 7th Floor LSV, for example - which in the later case only offers rheostatic action by the way...

What's the risk of combustion like on this?

With this new flower bowl I got from my Steven Straight Fab I haven't combusted at all yet, well once because some herb got poofed into the heater cover and that ensued a chain reaction and ignited my bowl, accidents happen. It's a cheaper lsv+wpa for sure, more instantaneous too, you can make a easy mod to keep the button pressed as well. I just got a screen fitted perfectly and it hits so damn well even with small amounts. Only thing I worry about is the duration I leave this thing on for. It's pretty much a sodering iron but I doubt its internals are meant for extreme lengths of time.

Yeah, the LSV was what I thought of immediately when I saw this. For how much it costs, this is a seriously hard hitting vape.

I bought it as a electronic light for smoking bongs, I had it in the closet for the longest time and then stumbled upon the vape attachment at a head shop for 25 bucks. Then had that for the longest time because I could never get it to work. I'm glad I kept it around.
